Though when India won, they had their 10 wickets intact, the official result of the match is: "India won by 84 runs"

How is this possible?

From cricinfo . This explains the 84 run victory

Quote:

The par score after 23.3 overs was 117. India were 84 ahead of that par score, which explains the result margin. When the game was stopped for the last rain interruption, India were still chasing 220, and they hadn't reached that target yet. Hence they didn't actually achieve the target with ten wickets in hand, they were only ahead of the par score at that stage by 84 runs, which is why the margin of victory is 84 runs, not ten wickets."

Finally we broke the winning jinx in NZ!! Brilliant all round effort ( apart from fielding). We dropped quite a few catches this series, was quite surprised Dhoni too dropped quite a few catches. Viru played a blinder today. Finally Gambhir got a good start.

Don't be surprised. He is dropping catches from ages. It is not getting notices since the team is winning almost all the matches they are playing. Hope with these wins nowadays, it will not go into his head. He should not think it is not getting unnoticied. All goes well when the team is doing good. Once the downturn starts these things will make a big problem for him.

Yes, sehwag played a brilliant innings today and well supported by his delhi teammate Gauti..Kudos to India for winning a series in 41 years...

Ifs and buts!
Though am sure if he played 50 overs any match anytime he will cross 200 for sure. The way he was striking the ball - brilliant.
Am predicting 4-0 on saturday - anyone to bet ?

I dont think M/s Duckworth and Lewis know this themselves. Each of them would probably point to the other chap if you asked them.

It was invented by two Englishmen and you know how bad they are at the game these days - how good can their mathematical formulae for the game be?

If you take that table (on cricinfo link) as baseline, then its simple to calculate from that table. Dont ask me how did DL arrive at that table.
Some statistical methods involved.
