I guess his stand is that he will be compensating the victims for the 'accident' that involved his car.

When court has acquitted him of murder, I guess the whole incident is just an accident in the eyes of the court and no one is guilty. Wait, did the court accept that this whole incident took place at all in the first place? They way they have rejected each and every stand of the prosecution, they can very well say that nothing happened that night!

Even Sanjay Dutt is supposedly being released 6 months earlier. With 42 months to serve, and 6 months advanced, how can he be released in a few months ?

They need to put Salman's car into gaol.

re: Salman Khan 2002 drunk driving & hit-and-run case. EDIT: Now acquitted

If Lalu can roam free and campaign for election and people actually voted for his party then nothing can happen in our country at this state.

Cases should not be delayed for 13 yrs. More the delay, prosecution will become week and courts can not punish based on people's emotion, they need evidence. Sad that rich and famous can escape their deeds just by prolonging the prosecution.

What happened to the car btw? They should consider auctioning it for a bomb (fans will buy right) and fund humanitarian efforts

re: Salman Khan 2002 drunk driving & hit-and-run case. EDIT: Now acquitted

On a side note, how much time before the pavement dwellers are sued for damaging the car ?

I guess a kidney should be sufficient for half the installments.

Some rich drunk would also do with half a liver.

Lungs, I guess, would have good demand in Delhi.

So that covers the tyres & bumper too maybe. Rest can be recovered by employing them (with food ofcourse) for a lifetime.

See, he's generating employment too! What a humanitarian!

On another side note, people are justifying it by comparing it to Quatrocchi, Enron and ofcourse Dow Chemicals.

Disgusted at the outcome; but not surprised.

Killed animals.. check.
Killed humans.. check.
Abused women.. check.

All this, being human.

What a bad precedent this is; wonder how this will affect all those other high-profile DUI cases.

I hope there comes a day when a wise man is brave enough to propose 0-tolerance when it comes DUI.

re: Salman Khan 2002 drunk driving & hit-and-run case. EDIT: Now acquitted

I was watching the news yesterday when this breaking news, well, broke out. Terrible handling of the case and a foregone conclusion turned into a verdict by the hon' High court.

More than the verdict, the way people were praising Salman Khan (He is a terribly nice human being, bhaijaan hai et al) and the way that people were going to celebrate their favorite actor's acquittal, I guess this was deserved.

We also cannot ignore the fact that with over 200 Cr riding on this gentleman, he simply could not go behind bars !

re: Salman Khan 2002 drunk driving & hit-and-run case. EDIT: Now acquitted

So let's get this straight.

Salman Khan wasnt driving his car. The constable who was in the SUV filed wrong information. The victims filed a wrong case. The lower court gave wrong justice and finally after 13 loooong years Salman Khan is proved innocence?

This man has definitely suffered a lot in his life. For a star whose dumbest movies tick 200 crores, destiny and common man definitely do not have much love.

re: Salman Khan 2002 drunk driving & hit-and-run case. EDIT: Now acquitted

Lower court examined the evidence and gave him 5 years. Now the high court examined the same evidence and found him not guilty. I think this would go on until cows come home. Luckily, there is just one more level of appeal. So, the only suspense left in this case is what the supreme court judge would think of the evidence.

The judge noted this and said it not my job .
Quote:
While concluding his dictation on Thursday, the judge observed that the one person who was killed that night had indeed lost his life after being run over by the car. He, however, said it was not for the court to go beyond this observation at the time and deal with the matter of who was driving the vehicle.

Who is giving them compensation? Didn't see any news on that.

Would it ever go to the supreme court, and who is going to file an appeal ?

Everybody in the world except the blind folded law lady knows who did it! What a rule! True- law only looks at evidence, not truth.

The prosecution (Maharashtra Govt) is studying the verdict and plans to appeal in SC.

re: Salman Khan 2002 drunk driving & hit-and-run case. EDIT: Now acquitted

We have some amazing super star "heroes" who are role models for our younger generations:
-One of them was a "gun-lover"
-Second one feels he is unsafe being in this country
-Third one is involved in killing animals (those animals self-destructed themselves probably) and humans (not him but his driverless car went on a rampage causing an accident)

What a nice world this is
With all this happening in our country how can people ever say we're intolerant ?
