Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Quite unfortunate that Paytm FasTag service had to close down. I was really happy with Paytm but after it shut down, I got migrated to HDFC and that is how HDFC happened. Else I would have opted for IDFC as the reviews here on TBHP were really good.

Completely agree. Paytm was the best Fastag service in the country by a mile. I use ICICI now and even though I have not had major issues with them, using their website just to verify transactions etc. gives me a headache. I don't get SMS messages at all for transactions and when I complained they replied and asked me to check with Airtel (!!)

I just recharge through UPI and verify transactions thru the emails I receive and pray that I don't run into any issues.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I am surprised there are very mentions of SBI Fastag here.

I was one of the relatively early adopters (i.e. long before it was made compulsory) of the Fastag system and preferred to go with the provider associated with my regular bank. In nearly eight years, I have (touchwood) not had a single failure, either in recharge or in acceptance. The only sour note was the extra fee that used be levied earlier, while topping up through the website. Now, with UPI, even that headache is gone.

All in all, a very satisfied user here.

As long as a tag works well, we don't get to experience how good or bad the bank support is (any bank for that matter). It is when something goes wrong, we face the reality.

Learnt the hard way with SBI tag. Someone I know was an early adopter of SBI tag and never had issue while using / recharging the tag. But when he sold the car and wanted to close the tag, he went thru tough time. There was no customer care to talk to, bank branch visit did not help, online contacts on SBI Fastag site were useless. Finally, after struggling for couple of months, he was left with no option but to simply tear off the tag before handing over the car to new buyer

Surprising.

While SBI do seem to have an unhealthy attachment to paper-based processes in an increasingly digital world (KYC documents had to be mailed to a specific address), my tag closure in 2023 on a previous car went without a hitch.

There was no app then (not sure if one exists now?), so I had to raise 2 closure requests on their web portal; one each for the tag and the associated wallet.

IIRC, had to upload a picture of the car with tag visible, and a scanned copy of a cancelled cheque. Closure was processed within 48 hours, and refund landed in my bank account without follow-up too.

Did all that and also contacted people listed on their Fastag portal. Shared all details but nothing moved. There was no way to contact customer care and even branch staff could not help or point in the right direction. It was quite frustrating experience, to say the least. This was 3 years ago, not sure if things have changed now. Once bitten twice shy, never SBI again. Or for that matter, would want to stay away from HDFC also, for their pathetic attitude and customer service.

What I have realised is that Fastag is handled by a separate department and only few banks have seamless integration and customer support. Whereas for others, they could not care less, since it is not their mainstay. Branch staff is also least bothered to support since there is no incentive for them.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

The easiest way to close a FASTag account is just apply for an new tag with the same registration number (though you won't get a refund of the FASTag balance this way).

Recently I purchased a used car and the previous owner's tag was still active. I simply ordered a new tag, and the previous owner's tag was automatically deactivated after a couple weeks.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

I am facing a unique problem. Ordered Fastag from HDFC for my FL2. I affixed it on the windshield and completed the KYV for the same. HDFC Portal shows KYV completed whereas the government portal says blacklisted.

Now neither of them are taking the responsibility and shifting blame to either one. NPCI website says there is no picture of Tag on the W/S whereas I have uploaded the pic on HDFC website.

It's so annoying that new systems are implemented but they are not linked smoothly and customer has to bear the brunt.

HDFC Bank seems to have a process issue. I ordered a replacement fastag from them, they immediately closed the old one and new one came after 7 days. Also when it arrived, it was not updated on NPCI website. Then after 7 days it started showing up on npci website. I tried to close HDFC fastag account, it took 15 days before they informed npci that old account it closed and during that time, I could not get a new fastag.

I agree with you. I have asked for the tag to be closed. Let's hope they do it ASAP so that I can get one from another bank. I have kept my wallet active as I have 2 other tags active.

Re: FASTag: All you need to know about procuring & using it!

Recently after my trip to Kanyakumari (https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/trave...nyakumari.html (Tale of two cities: Rameswaram and Kanyakumari)) I got a message from my Fastag provider( IndusInd Bank) that Rs 255/- debited at Bhoothakudi Toll ( between Viralimalai and Trichy ) on the way return to Pondy due to shortfall. When I checked the transaction details , observed that Rs 110/- was already deducted for this toll. And there was no shortage of amount in my account (I had 2500/- before starting the journey and still has 1250/- after reaching Pondy) and I have a habit of recharging in thousands in advance rather waiting for the journey date .
I raised dispute on IndusInd site with " duplicate transaction since I passed the toll only once" . This was rejected mentioning the transaction IDs are same. Then I reapplied with " Excess amount debited " ( with pictures of Car and RC Card)which was sent to Bhoothakudi Toll for clarification . Then the amount 255/- was credited back to Fastag account on 2nd May. Overall it took about 10 days.

Would I get a FasTag on the spot on new Mysore Expressway?

It's over 8 years since I wrote this message and have used the same FasTag extensively everywhere! Never had an issue. Both the guys suggested there no longer do this now. (Yes I called!)

Now I have a new (used) car and need a FasTag fast as I plan to drive to the Nilgiris on Monday early morning! As the car just came home this week and have been swamped with work, did not have the time to get a new tag before the weekend. But that doesn't mean I didn't try!

Since I already have the Axis Bank FasTag account, I just used the option to add another vehicle to it, so the balance can be shared. Placed the order online on the Axis FasTag portal and only when I saw no movement for a couple of days did I call the call centre to ask the ETA. Was disappointed when they said 7-14 days! Phew! By then I would be back from the Nilgiris! So cancelled that order.

Then a friend told me he applied for HDFC FasTag and got it the next day! Great! So I did yesterday evening. Seeing no updates, called them and they said ETA is 3-7 working days! Phew! Not working for me again! So have to cancel that order too!

Now with today being a bank holiday (2nd Saturday), the only options I have are:
  1. Pay cash all though, but then double the toll and also longer waits.
  2. Get an instantaneous FasTag from the guys at the Toll Gate and be at their mercy.
Now since the route to the Nilgiris from Bangalore takes me through the new Mysore Expressway, wanted to check if there is a reliable vendor at the Toll Booth who can issue me one without a hassle?

Or is there any place within Bangalore where I can get one today or tomorrow, to save me the trouble when I am heading out!

Any pointers guys?

Don't underestimate the Toll Booth guys who sit under the umbrella!

I got my Fastag from one of them - was issued one from IDFC. I got it instantly activated, and the guy set up recharges on my Google Pay as well. Has been working flawlessly for the past 3 years!
