What's the difference between the Shelby Cobra and the Ford Mustang? Or is there any at all?!

@Invincible7: That's too much money for an American muscle car.

Here's a question, hope someone can help me answer it.
I am considering importing a Mustang in a year or two when I shift back to India from U.S.
What are the formalities for me to import the car, assuming that it is second hand and that I owned it for a month or so (it will take me time to come up with the money).
Also, how much tax would I have to pay and how much would the conversion to RHD cost?

I am sure, you will end up cancelling your plan.
- In the first place, you cannot import a LHD.
- Conversions till date are none reliable and take away the driving pleasure. Ask liv2drv.
- For you to import on TR( which is the most cost effective way, you nee to own it for at least a year and residing outside India for about 2 years.
- Importing a used car without TR does not make any monetary sense. You would be better importing a new car.

My two cents: Buy a Nissan Skyline GTR RHD , if you are able to register it in your state in US. These are rare but you might be lucky. They go for about 15000-20000 for a R32 GTR. But you need to find one in sound shape in the first place. If registration is an issue, you can buy the car for track use only (dont know if buying a car this way technically shows that you have owned the car for a year when returning to India).

I have been thinking on those lines for some time now. Any idea how much it costs just for the transportation of the car from say, UK to India?

@dipen: I agree with you, doesn't seem like it is going to work out.
Guess I will have to wait for someone to sell their already imported one off in Mumbai. Should give me time to earn some money to pay for it as well, after all thats the only way my dream will come true.

NOTE: In the last pic, the Mustang, F-350, and Honda Odyssey belong to my uncle, The Galant is my Brother's [It pushes a little over 250hp at wheels] [Oh and my house is in Pic 2][/quote]

are you sure the galant pushes 250 bhp.. coz afaik even the Galant GTZ had 190 bhp in stock form from its 3.0L V6. IF its modded then that is a different story.

This is not the only shelby in India. There is another Grey one in Mumbai and a new one in Blr - which is why I am checking this thread.

Sorry for bumping a old thread but didn't feel like starting a new one.

On a car that has to be converted to RHD before it can be imported such as a mustang, does the duty applicable go only on the invoice of the car or the total mods done on it including RHD conversion.

A normal mustang in US costs around 30k. RHD conversion is 25k. So is the duty applicable on the 30k or the total 30+25k.

Thanks.
