NathuaKhan - Mukteshwar Ride - 646 kms - 30-04-2016 to 02-05-2016 - Road to Nirvana
Too many of us are not living our dreams because we are living our fears... So it was time to set off for 600+ kms SOLO ride to Nathuakhan Mukteshwar. The thrill of going totally solo is unparalleled. You are alone, at your own pace, no backups (though I had some emergency roadside assistance taken) and can imbibe the actual pleasure of riding.
This was the route - Meerut - Garh Mukteshwar - Garh Ganga - Gajraula - Moradabad Byepass - Rampur - Bilaspur - Rudrapur - Haldwani - KathGodaam - Bhimtaal - Bhowali - Malla Ramgarh - Talla Ramgarh - Nathua Khan - Mewra Gaon - Dervish Estate (stay) - then to Mukteshwar for next day excursion and back.
Off at 7 am
After a quick breakfast at Mc Donald's Gajraula, quickly reached Rampur for a top-up
Time for some 'chai' break
Nothing can beat the flavour of the 'kullad' vali chai
There were some bad stretches with lots of patch work between Rampur to Bilaspur to Rudarpur. After Rudarpur the good forest stretch started
Early Lunch at Udupi at KathGodaam
Bhimtaal came en-route
After Bhowali the traffic vanished and the 'bliss' started...
Road to Nirvana...
Mountain Birding Lodge at Oak Forest, Maheshkhan. Special permission from the Forest Department is needed for entry
Fantastic curves. I must have touched my footboards to the road at least 50 times
The unspoilt Himalayas still exists
Finally reached my homestay at 'Dervish Estate' at Village Nathua Khan. This hidden gem is run by a avid Bulleteer Tourer and Poet Sameer Kakkar (M: 9810047941). He has done Leh, Kashmir to Kanyakumari and many other mindboggling trips on his ThunderBird 350. He is quite discreet who he allows inside. TeamBHP members may take my reference for a magical stay experience (No commercial interests here, just a beautiful place I have liked to share).
Only sounds I could hear here were of the cold breeze blowing in my face and birds chirping around me
Sunrise the next morning from my room
And we were ready for our day excursion to the Mukteshwar Pine Forest. His Thunder Bird 350 in the background
Me and the Bulleteer and the pine forests start
Some fantastic views
The Himalayas in all it's glory
Visited the ancient Mukteshwar Temples too. 'Om Namo Shivaye'
Took some divine blessings
And then it was time to taste some 'Raan of the Mountain Goat'...lolz
which was to be slow cooked by Sameer himself to this wonderful stew. You just cannot get this taste with the stuff available in the plains.
With great reluctance I bid adieu to this 'jannat' the next day
Crossed the 11000 km mark on my way back at Rudrapur
The trip finally closed at 646 kms. Back home safe and sound and solo was a experience in itself which words just can't describe.
Cheers and keep the adventure spirit flowing...
