Mahindra Xylo : Is it really the end of the sedans ??

Fellow BHPians,

I am sure the following dilemma must be going through a lot of members' minds who are planning on buying a new car shortly.

I find the prices and FE of both Xylo and Linea almost similar.

I found the Linea to have looks, great build quality, great engine and comfort whereas the Xylo has great space at the same price as that of the Linea, ability to carry 2 more people, no future spare parts problems etc.

I would like an honest feedback about what decision you'd take if you had to choose between the two cars.

It all boils down to your requirements. If the requirements demand space for more than 5 people and carrying large families, then its Xylo and if one needs a sedan, its Linea. Both the cars are in different segments and cater to different needs.

But straight forward comparing sedan with UV is not a proper comparison. And the precise answer to your question is NO. Xylo does not mean the end of sedans. It can be other way round, but not this way.

"Xylo : Is it really the end of the sedans ??"

Maybe -- for the 'sedans' from the Mahindra-Renault stable.

This is an advertising gimmick. I think sedans are here to stay. More economical, cheaper to run, more fuel efficient, and so on.

Of course if the can persuade the NHAI to make all roads as bad as many are now (I am sure our Hon Minister is all for it) they may even be right.

Exactly. Somehow i feel they goofed it up with this slogan. What happens to the Logan from the same showroom now??( Though we all know its era is almost over). I frankly dont see XYLO making major dent in sedan sales. For a family more than 5 it might be a practical option , but others will still stick to the Sedans. Also with present road conditions we hardly have room to park sedans. Where will we park this??

The Taxi s should be more happier to get this one.

One more for taxi-folks. Sumo, Bolero, Rhino, Scorpio (new fav.) and now Xylo. Why do all taxi vehicles names end with O (Tavera a near miss)? :O

I think the slogan should have been , "xylo: the end of mahindra"

what were they thinking when they designed it?

And you really can't compare a sedan and a MUV. Then you will have to include the sumo et al in this category as well...

I don't think linea will have a problem due to the xylo launch at all...

xylo may become popular with the tourist taxi operators. but i wouldn't like to be seen owning this ugly ducking for sure!

EDIT: givenfly, good noticing!

M&M under Mr. Pawan Goenka is out of ideas, so the phrase "End of Sedans"! What a pathetic use of words! Though for the Taxi segment this must be true.
M&M haven't been able to leverage Xylo from the successful Scorpio which scored high on looks. Though looks really don't count much for a MUV, but seeing the latest market trend, one expects a combination of various factors, looks including!
Linea is superemly a superior product compared to Xylo which needs sorting out in a no. of deparments. Xylo needs to grow up as a product & so does M&M!

I went a mahindra showroom for a TD, upon entering the premises, saw the back of a XYLO. Immediately thought of leaving back, a salesman saw me & took me inside. Saw the interiors etc. & decided not to TD this ugly duck!

I wouldnt buy the Xylo if it were given at a discount. It's a boat on wheels. Jokes aside...it's Linea for me, any day .

In a month Mahindra has to start the ad as Xylo- End of sedans like Logan only
On a serious note its ugly and nowhere comparable to Linea.
