Be aware of potholes on the road right under the Majiwada flyover, then at the Anjur phata junction and then again in Kalyan, specially near the toll plaza.

Hello All,

With heavy rains in Mumbai since last two days & similar predictions for next couple of days (predictions - which this time around seem to be true) I feel we should assess the road conditions on Saturday before venturing out to Malshej Ghat on Sunday.

I believe by now most of us are aware of road damage at Mumbra (most probably due to a landslide) & traffic jams at Eastern Express Highway because of this.

There was a reported landslide in the ghat area as reported in the Marathi daily on 20th July. Although the debris is reported to be cleared but the traffic still moves at snails pace among the ghat section. We need to factor additional time for the trip.

The Mumbra bypass was closed today, reasons unknown. Most likely cause is a landslide.

So in case you are going to drive to the Malshej ghat, beware of the same danger.

Thanks guys for the update. A colleague had been there on Last Sunday, 21st July, and he said the rods are fantastic mostly. So we would be dealing with bad roads in patches.
I have been going to Malshej Ghat every year since 2007, as we normally reach the Resort we are planning to have our lunch by 12:00 noon, mostly because of the slow moving traffic and that we also would want to stop at places where there is a waterfall, do a quick photo shoot and then move on.
Just make sure everyone stay together as mostly you will not have network on their phones. Remember the destination and follow the route.
And most important is not to Race or Drive Fast on the Ghats.

Mumbra bypass update:

Mumbra bypass has suffered a fracture on the concrete road. Fracture is too small a word to use for it. Today's Loksatta carries a photo of the wide crack on the concrete road.

I am posting this to correct the earlier speculation about a landslide on this patch (though the present problem is not due to landslides, I have noticed huge boulders on the side of the road - obviously fallen from the mountainside).
