LOL. Naah, the place remains Pondicherry.

I think neoranjit just wants to drive out a little more than the measly 300kms (2-way) that a trip to Pondy entails.

Guys, are you planning for a slight extended stay or a lunch get-together at Pondy ?

While madan & rahulkool are thinking (I hope they change their mind though) about just driving down for lunch and returning, the rest are planning an overnight stay as mentioned in Plan-A at start of thread.

As iceman91 said, there is not much fun in just driving down there, having lunch and returning back.

We will plan a long trip after this one, Ranjith. And even if we get only a few guys, we will still do it. A place like Yercaud - 330kms one way - should be great.

I am game for any date after August 17th. In London till then. Please suggest any plans. Will keep tracking the thread.

We would need to book the rooms if we plan to stay overnight. Atleast a week in advance. Weekends tend to get packed.

Ha Ajo, long time. Glad you reminded about the rooms. Yes, we need to book in advance.

Last time I did a Pondy trip with some friends, we stayed at Hotel Maas. IIRC, it cost us somewhere between 1800-2000 for a double a/c room for 4 guys.

Guys, do suggest some hotel options that we can check out and make bookings.

Lets book rooms at a resort beachside rather than a star hotel in the centre of the city.

John, just when vikram is toning down his dragging-mania, you come up and remind him.

Does that imply we will be seeing more Bangalore tbhp-ians at the meet ? That sounds great.

The idea is to ensure maximum participation by planning it in such a way that both day-trip-only guys and overnight-stay guys can make it. As I see it, the way we can do this is :

- The majority leave for Pondy on Saturday evening, stay in Pondy and return on Sunday evening.

- Those who can't do the night-stay part, leave for Pondy on Sunday morning, catch up with the rest of the gang at Pondy and we all return as a full group on Sunday evening.

I hope this keeps everyone happy.

Some hotel/resort options

I did some googling and found this link that lists out many options in Pondy, though most of them are quite costly. It also lets us do the reservation online for all listed hotels.
Pondicherry - Hotels & Resorts Reservation

Of the above list, I found this to be a good option for us.

Pondicherry Executive Inn : An 11 Room all-suite Hotel located at walking distance from the sea face at Pondicherry.

Tariff Valid till 30th Sept 2008 :
Executive Suite Rs.1500/- (Complimentary Buffet Breakfast)
Executive Room Rs.800/
Extra Guest Rs. 300/

Depending on how spacious their suites are I guess we could have 3-4 people in one suite.

BTW, they say it is an all-suite hotel, then what is the Executive Room @ Rs800 ?

P.S. : What is the per person budget that we are looking at ? That would help identify the correct option.
