But I also missed ADC and Anirban. ADC of course had ruled out participation right in the beginning but Anirban ditched pretty royally at the last moment. In his and his family's absence, my daughter became the only child in the meet :( I think now we should plan for a long drive kind of meet before the end of winter. |
Am I frustrated or what?
Tuhin overhauled and rehabilitated our common grand-dad's Plymouth just in time for me to get massive street cred with all the right social circles in Cal in '74-'75; conveniently for me, he pushed off to the UK, with lamentable lack of strategic forethought, and left the field wide open, as it were.
In the North, they have the phrase 'G***d masti'. More or less in that spirit, he and his kid brother, on his return (I forget exactly when) stripped down and rehabilitated a Baby Hindustan with their own lily-whites. It was worth seeing jaws drop and eyes round up at the meet as T described what they did.
While he's done most of the roads and trips I've done and some more, his kid brother is the maniac. This Puja holiday he (along with his wife) did Cal to Shirdi and back in their Getz; last year, they were less ambitious, and stuck to Cal-Varanasi-Khajuraho and back. Weekends they usually head for Puri.
Tuhin is in a red T-shirt in the pictures. The Lang Karl in a green top that you see sitting under the gazebo is the younger son of Tuhin's sister, the third in the trio. This cat, while in Pune, did Pune-Goa in a jeep with his pal and two others, and has a story to tell. Just now, I am being VERY nice to him, as the same pal has promised him and his friends (a friendly uncle is a friend, innit?) Srinagar to Leh with bells and whistles. Oooh-er.
I'm trying my damnedest to get T into Team-BHP, but the horrible chap has a job that keeps him on the hop all the time, and has been shying away. Not, in my humble opinion, a good enough reason. I hope when he reads this that he will curl up with shame and subscribe. C'mon, old boy, take your finger out and get on with it.
