Nice!

This seems like a very well organized drive!! Maps + Rentals + Conference calls!

I'm sure there are a lot of non-tri-staters watching this thread closely and awaiting the photos! (The pics will be especially great if asher454 bring the gallardo too!!)

Enjoy & drive safe,
R

Couple of things:

1. We should have a late breakfast and then late lunch almost at the end of drive (twisty section). Driving after lunch on twisties is not a good idea.

2. Should plan a couple of stops in between apart from breakfast and lunch, nearby some scenic place (One in DEL water gap, I know a spot besides river, just near PA-NJ border and other in Catskills). This would allow for some interaction and car-talk also some photography

Just my $0.02.

Weather ??

Just checked.

Weather.com shows 70% chance of precipitation on Saturday for NYC as well as Del water gap area.

Should we reschedule ??

I feel 70% is high enough to take it seriously. Usually for 30%-40% level, I dont care.

I would caution about interpreting weather reports. There is a big difference between

1. "its going to rain most of the day"

and

2. "there is 70% chance of showers in the morning".

If 70% chance of rain meant that it will rain for 70% of the day, that would be one thing, but if it just means that there is a 70% chance of some rain during some part of the day, I'd say lets just do it.

I just looked at the weather forecasts in Port Jervis, NY and Hancock, NY, which define the area where we will be and the reports for saturday are:
Quote:
Port Jervis: "Mostly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms. Showers likely...mainly in the morning. Chance of rain 60 percent."

Hancock: "Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of showers."
So it sounds like we won't be driving under the shining sun, and we will probably encounter some rain during some part of the day.

With that forecast, I am inclined to push through and just do it.

I suggest for now we plan to go. If the forecast for saturday looks much worse by 6pm on Friday, we can scrub.

I propose moving the conference call to 7pm. If by then the forecast looks much worse, we can discuss whether to cancel, before Satya picks up the rental.

but like i said, right now, I am inclined to go..

Definately dig it out any where on rt 17, ESPECIALLY from right outside Binghamton to just short of montecello.
I cant remember but right of 17 near roscoe you can take 206 or the old rt 17, 206 is much better, I remember racing down 17 in my 3 series racing a stang which was killing me, got off 17 in roscoe and then it was a lot of fun.
there are some amazing routes that take you all the way upto whitney point ( about 10 mins from Bhingamton on 81, maybe for your next drive i'll suggest something
have fun and take care of that fresh Virgin- Himanshu :P

Have fun HM ...

Yes, thank you, I know that site. You just said "cop heaven" and I wondered if you were refering specifically to route 17 as being infested with cops.

Thanks! Good to know about Rt-17

Everyone, the same as last time, on Expressways and other main highways, we will stick within 5 mph of the speed limit to ensure our big day isn't ruined by cops pulling the lot of us over and spoiling everyone's mood. Once we hit the final expressway run back to the NYC area, then we don't have to stay together as a group and everybody can pick their own speed.

As for the rain, well, I am a bit crazy and I usually drive in the rain with the top off, and try to stay dry keeping up the speed so the rain just blows over. In the miata I could stay quite dry even in heavy rain, but the elise gets the face and hair wet if driven top down in the rain though the body stays dry.. So anybody riding with me, prepare for getting your hair wet! Its a lot of fun!!

I think I will swap the tires on it today. Its sitting on the Toyo R888s, but I think it would be better to have the AD07s on it for this drive. Though I wouldn't be surprised if they've gone flat from sitting in storage for a year....

PS. I may change the route slightly between hancock and the catskills state park as there seems to be another good road in the region that we should hit while we're up there.

Should be fun riding open top at 100mph in rains on curvy roads ! I am up for it, until I catch cold

Ok. We go ahead as planned.
Is the call at 7pm Friday ? or 8pm ?

I can meet people at 5.45am on Saturday near Grand Central/Pershing square.
For now, the guests have been taken care of, so I am coming for the drive. But still I will confirm tomorrow evening.

I also heard back from Arun (Xsaraking) - he might be tagging along too, which would be really nice .

There was a ride on another forum e90post.com, which I browse through. A bunch of members went on a drive a while ago and were pulled-over whole-sale. Not pretty!
