what route did you end up taking back to NYC? I went 17 to I-87 south, to garden State parkway to route 3 freeway which drops you onto the lincoln tunnel access road.

I took 87 South, then hopped onto Saw Mill Pkwy after Tappan Zee Bridge.
(Took Himanshu on a slight detour through Sleepy Hollow before hitting Saw Mill.)
Then Henry Hudson into Manhattan. If you want to avoid the Henry Hudson toll, then there's a slight detour that you can take - get back onto 87 South and take the exit (any exit between Exit 2 and Exit 7) before Triboro (now, RFK) bridge, to avoid tolls into Manhattan. These exits take you onto Harlem River Dr and then the FDR.

I enjoyed the drive back through Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and The bridge that led to Tarry Town too...Tappan Zee, right? It was fun and informative from a BMW perspective
