I just looked at my key and its the same. The unlock button is also depressed to prevent accidental presses in your pocket.

That is by design. It is to identify the key without looking at it (read in dark). I can vouch for the quality of XUV key. My wife unknowingly washed the key along with a jeans in washing machine at 50 degrees water with detergent, dried it at 1000 rpm. After one hour of full wash cycle, it just worked without a slight hint of the what just had happened.

And now just add a engine and four wheels to it, and wala, we have a new reliable, rock solid mini XUV .500

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Hello All,

I drive a Silver XUV W6. Its a Feb 2013 Model Vehicle and has run 8000 Kms to date. I would say half of it on Highways and Western Ghats.

The present Niggles Observation List:

1. Initially Front left side Suspension or some neighbouring part gives a muted "thud thud" on bad roads when the suspension acts.

Resolution Attempt: 1st service, this issue was reported and got the feedback that a screw was not tight and thought the issue was resolved.
But realised later that, both suspensions in the front gives that noise now on bad stretches.

Note that, it is not very audible or irritating. But I need to know, how serious an issue it is. So that it can be taken care on warranty.

--------------------------------
2. My 1.5 yr old son did a pull-up on the Internal Driver Mirror. And the whole assembly came down broken. Now, some sensor assembly which resides below the mirror assembly is visible in open.
(this isn't a niggle though. But need to get it repaired or replaced)

--------------------------------
3. Middle row left blower stopped working.

Resolution: 1st service, replaced the vent assembly on warranty. The issue was, the rotating part wasn't internally opening the vent and hence no air flow.
--------------------------------
4. Bluetooth connectivity is SOMETIMES an issue and doesn't connect to my Samsung Note.

Resolution: I then, search the Bluesense from my Samsung Mobile search and connection from Mobile end, instead of waiting for Bluesense to find my Mobile (when Mobile is made visible).
-------------------------------

Other than above, the Vehicle has run pretty well these 8000 Kms.

* Upgrades Planned: Hella 3003 Pair to be fitted in the next couple of days.
* Upgrades done: Imperial Leather (Nappa Leather) in Bangalore custom stitched and fitted for all 3 rows for 16,000 Rs. And Steering wheel fitted with Black Pure leather.

On a more serious note, the driver door lock has started working erratically. It unlocks sometimes and doesn't work sometimes. New discoveries make me feel like what Christopher Columbus probably felt when he discovered America. The same sort of "now what" feeling comes over me.

As a result, I felt trapped by the love the xuv was showing me. On a different note, my car just crossed the 7,000 km mark.

Any solutions to this? If not, I'll ring the service chaps who now know me by name and ask whether to send the mechanics home or to my office. Hopefully this isn't another one of those suspected "rat bites"

Despite the quirky looks, remote key is the only thing positively surprised me with reliability till date.

I initially had some concerns about the range of the remote. Not sure if they did something during any of the visits to the service-center, but currently, the range seems just fine.

Anybody else facing (or not-facing) issues with the range of the remote?

I had this exact same issue about 2 months back. But didn't reoccur after that. I have found to pattern to reproduce the issue though. And that is open->close->open->close in close succession. Try this for ten times or so and the 11th time, the door wouldn't lock or unlock.

In those cases, when the manual handle doesn't work, I use the key unlock button to unlock the doors.

Might be a battery-saving feature so that the battery does not get drained due to excessive use of lock/unlock mechanism.

I have another observation to support that "battery-saving" theory of mine. Try the mirror-fold/unfold button a few times. After a reasonable number of times, it just stops working.

I experienced this just now. Unlocked the car with the remote. Wouldn't open. None of the doors. Tried 4 times, then tried with the key, still wouldn't open. But the remote unlock after the key worked.
Wonder what's up!

Keep an eye on the small red LED embedded in the remote just above the 3 buttons. Sometimes the remote doesn't 'wake-up' so to say till you press the button 3-4 times. Happens at the begining of the day or when you are about to start back to home after a full-day's work. Might be related to the temperature. I faced that a few times in winter.

This is mentioned in the manual Section 8-7 (page 128) where they say that the operation is limited to twice per min.

I have read the old-version hard-copy manual completely. I should go through the latest PDF version as well. Looks like there are quite a few hidden gems there!

Thanks Heavy Horse!

The remote has been erratic on me in the past few days and the range too. The only time it works is when the red light at the top of the buttons glows, but a tap to the place where the battery is and it works immediately. Is it the battery being weak or out of place? Apart from that I have not observed a pattern for its behavior, will try to observe next time

This is the rain sensor assembly and the covers that protect this assembly fall off at the drop of a hat. It one day came off when I was cleaning the glass from inside

No doubt it came off when your son pulled it. I want to talk to them to get it replaced with a one that fits better or everything is the same put some sort of a plaster to prevent it from falling off.

I have seen this issue with my wife's Samsung Galaxy S2. IS would not pick the phone up when made visible, but the phone could easily connect with the IS and once I paired them the subsequent connects are fine. I saw the same issue with a Blackberry too !!

Thanks I'll keep an eye out for that.
However in this case I heard a faint unlocking sound from the car when I remote unlocked it, but it wouldn't open.
Same happened with the key unlock.
