Yes your observation is indeed correct. The rear seatbelt design is faulty and the belt tends to cross over the neck and can be fatal in a accident/hard braking.

This then is a serious issue and needs to be noted by all prospective buyers. Also, M&M needs to look into the issue.

Mods: Could this point be verified by the gurus and if found correct, the point may be placed in the listed disadvantages since this is a safety point.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

While doing a little cleaning in the engine bay area, noticed the coolant level half way between the min/ max mark!
Normally this would not cause any alarm bell to go off - but remembered seeing the mech top it up just a couple of weeks before! So since I'm planning a long trip thought it best to have it checked!
Yes the coolant was leaking - they had to replace the thermostat as the rubber "O" ring was damaged! From the looks it appeared to be a cause of poor workmanship while putting together in the first place!

On a different note- saw another vehicle's front disk drums replaced - took photo with phone.

Had the same problem with the thermostat in my XUV too (mentioned here 2 months ago). Same place in the "O" ring too. Don't know how many others have to face the same problem.

With the reference of coolant, I got really confused about the thermostat. I had always believed that the thermostat is part of the Automatic Climate Control Unit. So looked up on HowStuffWorks and realized that - a thermostat sits between the engine and the radiator and its job is to block the flow of coolant to the radiator until the engine has warmed up.

Good, I learnt something new today.

Two discs in the front. Brake pads were reverted back to the original design.

LastActionHero,
Thanks for the prompt response.

Does this mean that all the issues with brake grinding noise and effectiveness, were due to the brake-disc and NOT the brake-pads? Does that also mean that M&M replacing brake-pads till now was actually a wrong solution?

Thanks SDP and others who have come up with a list niggles after going through 22 pages of reported issues and resolutions. Though bit surprised as soon as I saw my name in the reported issue. I just wanted to clarify that it is not the tyre quality that has been reported in my case. Actually the Air Valve that was used on my wheels were of sub-standard quality. Since I opted for the alloy wheels at the dealer he has to put new Air Valves in the new alloys and then change my tyres from the steel rims to allow rims. It seems the dealer has done this and he has used a sub standard valve which gave up on one of the long drives due to which the tyre ran flat the it got damaged. After reporting to them and their consultation with Bridgestone and later with Mahindra they gave me a replacement. I understood from the Service Engineer is that Mahindra had a learning from this case, it seems that the new alloy wheels (mahindra genuine accessories) that will come with factory fitted OEM Air Valve. Also the Airbag warning light keep coming in, I was very upset because it made me travel 22KM each way just to get it reset, so I asked them to give me a permanent solution. They have done this and when asked what was the problem the Service Manager said it was the continuity issue between the sensor and the main unit. I showed him another concern with respect to the Airbag sensor placed underneath the front seats. The wire that connects actually is very tight when you pull the driver seat to the extreme front end and this could make the connector loose. I think this was also a learning for them. Just for reference I am enclosing an image of sub standard valves that were used on my alloys. They also updated the software to new revision. I am not sure what were the issues that were resolved.

But one thing that could be said is M&M has improved their after sales to a great extend and at least they are assuring me that we are their at your service and we will do all that to satisfy the customers.

No that's not correct, I also got these discs replaced. The grinding at slow speed vanishes but the breaking at high sppeds is still not effective, I still get grinding noise at 60 kmph if I am breaking from 100 to 60 kmph.

thanks

Here's my analysis of all the data:
  • Total 177 issues reported by 35 owners. That means average 5.06 issues reported by each owner.
  • 68 - sort of unique issues. 32 unique issues with more than one occurance. The remaining 36 unique issues are faced by only one owner each (so could be one-off).
  • 21 owners (out of 35) faced some or the other issues with the infotainment system.
  • 17 owners not very happy with the brakes because of the noise and/or the braking effectiveness.
  • 17 owners not very happy with the steering/wheels because of alignment, leakage and noise issues.
  • 16 owners had some or other sensor malfunctioning (Security alarm and TPMS warning going off w/o reason have been most common).
  • Only 1 or 2 complaining about the engine responsiveness and the mileage
  • Around 10 owners complaining about rattles
  • Umpteen number of brake-pads have been replaced. 1 clutch assembly, 1 right front suspension, 1 transaxle, 1 thermostat, 1 water-pump, a couple of speakers, a couple of steering racks, a couple of headlight units, 2-3 tyres and multiple nippon units have been replaced.
  • At least 7-8 newer versions of the infortainment system s/w have been released.
  • A couple of instances of vehicle refusing to start temporarily.
  • No full-blown breakdowns reported by any TBHPians, but multiple sightings of XUVs on flatbed-towtrucks. One unconfirmed report about a enire wheel coming off.
  • Only around 20 issues (out of 177) have been satisfactorily resolved. At the same time, most owners are happy with the responsiveness from M&M and A.S.S. Request owners to update any resolved issues at the earliest.

------------------------------------
If you want to report update on any issue, you can use the following list:

1 Brakes don't feel effective
2 Grinding noise from the brakes

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Hi guys,

I got delivery of my XUV on the 13th and have already faced a lot of issues:

- Start/Stop function working every 1/10 stops; Engineers working on it for the past 2 days
- Both turning lights come on while I take a turn (shouldn't only one light come on? the side am turning?)
- Slight rattle from the middle bench, apparently the hook at the bottom that holds the seat to the floor has a slight gap. Fixed by putting double sided tape around the hook
- Blower display comes on intermittently while I am driving
- Car runs towards the left, alignment issues
- Unusually bumpy ride when only 1 person in the car; air pressure too high?

..and its only been 3-4 days of ownership! sigh!

There are some pre-requisite conditions to be met for the Start Stop to function. The car wont switch OFF every time. I guess it would be mentioned in the manual.

Absolutely normal. Works that way in the XUV.
Quote:

Yes, check the tyre pressure.
Quote:

I am not sure but I did read somewhere that the screen shows the blower settings. Maybe XUV owners can help.

Which leads us to the actual issue -

Was your's a W6? Did you get the alloys or tyres changed?

Quote:

Dont be paranoid.

As you see above, you have only one alignment issue. Enjoy your XUV.

You can try to visit the dedicated XUV workshop in Sec-58 Noida (Koncept). There are 2 RMs there - Ashutosh Sharma & Rohan Sharma. Both are very patient & will hear your concerns, for sure.

I don't use auto mode in AC. It could be that whenever it automatically reduce the blower speed it shows up on the display.
