Hi Gerard

Am compiling list of open issues. I believe all the above ones are resolved as well as the pulling left issue & speaker's crackling sound

Can you please confirm
Well all previous issues resolved- the speaker issue resolved by replacing it.
The pulling completely gone with alignment done -at G3 Motors.
New ones keep popping their ugly head now an again.-But in general still puts a smile on my face when I drive!

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

1.Car failed to start on 2 occasions. I removed the key from the ignition waited for a minute and tried again and it started.
2.The steering Colum rubs against your left foot when taking turns at crawling speed with the clutch depressed.
3.The entertainment system has stopped responding a few times and I have to switch it off and restart it.
4.Notchy second gear- sometimes it is difficult to engage second gear.
5.Car alarm sounds randomly when parked without any intrusion attempt.
6.Grinding sound from the brakes.
7.Driver side ORVM hits the window beading in closed position.
8.Sometimes outside smell enters the vehicle in recirculation mode.
9.And the latest one happened today- front passenger door fails to open from inside as well as outside.I can manage with the other niggles but this one has me .

Most of the items listed in your long list were experienced by myself. Some of the following are not yet resolved.
1. Brakes - Redesigned pads is one thing. I believe there is a redesigned assembly. Insist on them.
2. Clutch - Insist on redesigned assembly.
3. Outside air coming into cabin - I have this issue - I think it is a defective component which lets air in (I have noticed it happening when the vehicle is on the move). So dont let them check it when it is stationary. Have them drive thru some stinky stretches in Delhi to reproduce this problem-Maintain speed at around 50-60. My issue is not yet resolved. Lets see what your guys do.
4. Uncovered yesterday: My rear suspension got messed up & the tires were rubbing against the road, making bad noise. Mahindra folks did some alignment check - found nothing wrong. But found the rear suspension to be totally messed up. Made some adjustments and asked me to observe.. This is just a 1 day old issue. But have them check your rear suspension as well.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture before the issue is temporarily fixed. Let me try to explain verbally.. Couple of weeks ago, a friend who was following my XUV in his scorpio noticed that the rear wheels were looking like \ / instead of | | .. He called me while I was driving. I didn't have any major issue. So, thought its some optical illusion. Called up the RM. The told me \ / shape of rear wheel is by design - Because M&M used some independent suspension. He insisted that other high end SUV's such as Honda CRV have the same look and feel if you observe... I bought the explanation

From that day onwards, I started taking a critical look at the rear of XUV every day. I somehow "got" what my friend wanted to say.. The rear wheels were looking like \ / .. No other major issues... Few days down the line, I felt that the car was swaying big time whenever the rear wheels went over even very small bumps.. I started suspecting something.

Few days ago, few of my friends and myself had to to for a long drive (about 100 KM one way).. The car was loaded fully (7-8 adults).. That's when I realized the noise of tyres rubbing the roads - something similar to alignment issue noise.. The noise was very persistent. Worst part - I couldn't cross 100KM speed as the car was swaying left and right every time I went over tiny bumps - which in normal circumstances would be a smooth drive.

Went to the dealership immediately (Sireesh-Bangalore).. The RM promptly got a Technician to look into my car. The technician didn't even attempt a test drive after looking at my rear wheels. He immediately loaded the car in one of the bays and started checking the alignment - after an hour, they concluded that there was nothing wrong with the alignment & there was some issue with the suspension. They have adjusted some bolts/nuts in the rear suspension.. Now the weels look | |. However, the suspension in the rear has become very rough. It feels like a Scorp.

I am going to observe for another 2-3 days & going to ask for a replacement. That will be the nth time they would replace something in my car.

Hope this explains the issue. Next time around, I'll make it a point to take a picture everytime I encounter an issue :-)

This is pretty bad, we can 'live' with noises and creaks, but this is life-threatening dangerous. If by chance the suspension went kaput in your highway trip....

Please get this diagnosed completely, if possible sit on their heads and ask for complete replacement of the suspension parts.

This is indeed scary. The behaviour after the resolution is more
Can you please check with the RM about what could have caused this problem?

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Had faced a new issue with the XUV. A few days ago i parked the car for some 3 hrs and when i stared driving again, as I moved the steering the car make weird loud creaky noises. As if metal was rubbing against metal. I called up the RM and he asked me to open the hood and check the Power Steering fluid, and i saw that it was empty. Rushed the car to the service center (some 10kms) and they said the power steering pipe was leaking and ITS A COMMON PROBLEM. They got it replaced in some 5-6 hrs. But guys you need to be careful as this can be a big issue and someone might get stuck somewhere someday.

Unbelievable . Perhaps it is now time for M&M to conduct a general recall and replace all parts/components and systems that are routinely being reported as faulty. Surely, in more than 6 months now, they have enough data on what these parts are.

Tatas waited too long to do the same on the Nano, and once you have those horrific images of fires and accidents in mind, the credibility of the car never comes back.

re: Mahindra XUV500 niggles & solutions

Folks,
I have owned a Bolero Sportz 2003-5 and since then i own a scorpio crde 2.6.
Both the vehicles put together i would not have 5% of these issues.
M&M is digging their grave?? by launching a vehicle ridden with niggles.
What kind of extensive testing did they do for 2 + years? surprising.
Now with Ertiga launched , new safari storme round the corner they will have to do a lot of soul searching.
As for all the BHPians who took the plunge i wish their issues get sorted out ASAP.
I will continue with my Scorpio no XUV for sure ....

Totally unbelievable. I didn't face this issue - But had other long list of issues. This one is scary too.. What if you were driving at 100+ and found the power steering fluid is empty? I have another 15 days to clock 6 months. Guess good enough time to think about moving on..

Well, well, well....they did replace the steering rack of my W6 for the same reason. But in my case the leak was detected by the chaps in A** themselves during the 1st service. The entire steering rack was replaced under warranty, I saw the cost mentioned as Rs.15000 during the bill sign- off.

These days I open the hood at least once in couple of days to check for leaks and other potential problems.
