nice job sir. one suggestion, in the first circuit, instead of making two different circuits for different colored led's, you could make the circuit which i made with a variable resistance. it would give the same effect and we can control it manually. it would be great if you could provide me with the circuit diagram or the source of the circuit so that i can try my hands on this one too!

The flasher using 555, I made 2 different circuits for 2 different reasons,
i didn't needed the alternating flashes though.

for the mood light please see the description of video on youtube it has link to the original posted circuit, but use BC547b as transistor not BC337 as shown in the circuit.

Good job there GHPK. Moodlight - is that a wine glass kept upside down? I could not see the video completely as my connection is slow today.

yes that's the wine glass kept upside down, that was only thing with milky finish i could find.
Looking for a glass vessel/tube which can spread the light evenly.
Also ordered a 3W RGB L.E.D. to maximize the light effects and mixing.

Very basic DIY, nevertheless wanted to post this information if any member finds it beneficial.
Procured: High bright white LEDs :50 nos
Resistors: 100 ohms 25 nos
Basic circuit boards: 10 nos, 5 of 2X2s 5 of 2X4s
one Soldron, flux & solder roll

The wiring diagram is attached. Connected 3 in series with the resistor at the +ve end and then connected all three of the negative and postive terminals for the right connections. Opened the roof light of Scorpio with a screw driver, took out the original yellow bulb and connected the positive and negative terminals(not without blowing a fuse). And Lo, the white pristine lights are awesome!. Did the same for the rear light too on the roof. The car feels and looks cool with white LEDs lighting!

Now I plan to do the same to the Scorpio's non functional tower lights. I plan to put in rows of the red LEDS, which shall glow up on braking!!
Surya,
Have you done the non functional tail lamp convertion with LEDs.Any update.

I was going through this thread and it generated enough interest in me to start trying some DIY of my own.
I got 10 white LEDs (10 LED for 15 rupees) from a store, alongwith some 220 ohm resistors (7 for a rupee), as suggested by ghpk.

Also, i connected 1 LED with a 1.5 volt AA battery and got it glowing

Now what I really want is to prepare a bank of 5 LEDs in series for some footwell light in my car. I want to take it step by step as I am a real newbie with electronics.

Some queries:

I do not know the wattage of the LED - any way to identify?

I have a 12v power socket connector with open lines (it was a fan or something connected to it - now its gone), so can I initially try to hook up the LEDs with that?

Whats the way to calculate the resistor required to prevent the LEDs from going kaput?

Thanks in advance for the answers. More queries in line

Autoash, I have been using 3 LED strips plus a LED cabin light in my M800, 2003 model.
One is a red coloured strip installed under the dash, and the other 2 are white strips installed under the head lamps. I got the under-dash and the cabin light installed more than one year ago, while the other 2 are one month old.
I have had no technical problem of any sort with them. ( All are dealer installed strips. )

Hi

I want to add a few lights into my Vista.

I need a light in the boot desperately.

Also I was thinking of adding puddle lights for all 4 doors.

I also think i need a cabin light since the default roof lamp is placed away from the rear seat. So may be a light on the roof above the rear seat?

Any suggestions? Which brand and any specific kit available for same?

Please comment.

Re: LED lighting in cars

Added a pair of diy white led strip. On/off through a button, and only glow when the ignition is on. Here is a pic with mini and fog.

Re: LED lighting in cars

I am planning to upgrade the conventional bulbs to LEDs as replacement in my Fiesta.

The Specs For Fiesta as...

1. 12V P21W 5W - Brake & Tail Lamp
2. 12V PY21W 5W - Turn indicator
3 WY 12V - Side Repeater
4. W5W - Side lamp (I am guessing these are the parking bulbs)

Is there any precaution that I need to take while I upgrade to LED bulbs as replacement? I am seeing a separate flasher circuit and also 10W resistors that are sold with the bulbs.

I am planning to buy them from www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk

Thanks in advance for your help folks,

Arun

Since these are low power bulbs, there shouldnt be a problem while replacing them. These would just a plug n play type of bulbs. Kindly check this before you buy. I had used LED side blinkers before and it was just a direct replacement.

The site highly reliable. I bought three products from them before. 7 days sharp for the delivery from UK.

Kindly keep us updated on the progress.
Cheers
