Hey Audioholic,

Do you have any updates from this experiment? Curious to know your findings.

Naut.

Hey,

Sorry for the late reply. I was not in station and was not able to update. Yes I did change the Throttle body gasket week when my car was down for some body repair. It did not make any difference. However, I did not replace the intake manifold gasket since this was more of an intensive job to remove the manifold from the head. However, this judder is something to do with the clutch only, and perhaps the issue Shashi pointed out was something else like how I mentioned earlier. Vacuum leaks in the intake side will lead to jerkiness but not judder.

Transmission shudders in 2 year old Celerio AMT

Mod note: Please use Search before opening a new thread. Topic being discussed in detail here. Thanks.

Folks

I have a 2 year old Celerio AMT that has clocked about 15000 kms. The car has been maintained as per standards Suzuki guidelines and driven with a fair amount of mechanical empathy (very minimal/rare sudden acceleration, braking etc). Of late, I have noticed that the car shudders in the 1st gear under cold start conditions - the condition worsens when the AC is on. The service engineers seem to think it might be a clutch issue - my old Alto underwent a clutch overhaul when the odo showed 74k kms!! So, given my driving style, I doubt if its a clutch issue.
Writing to check if any of you folks (who own a Celerio AMT) face/faced a similar problem

Check out this thread - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techn...-amt-woes.html (Maruti's AMT woes)

The AMTs used in 1.0L engines do have premature wear and juddering issues. I have witnessed them personally in many cars in a dealership I used to work in. However, they are prompt in replacing stuff under warranty. I've seen clutches changed around 5k km mark.

Same is not there in 1.2 petrol or the 1.3 Diesel engine.

As I had written earlier in this thread that although I was getting the occasional judder, I had been able to overcome the situation by adapting to a very sedate driving style.

However, since last one week I am facing a whole new problem. It started last week right from the day I received my car from MASS after a work on the steering. (Details of the steering work has been narrated by me here - https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/technical-stuff/202334-some-queries-related-alto-k10-servicing.html). On the way back home from MASS, which is a 2.5 km distance, I saw the transaxle warning indicator in the MID for the first time in my life.

It wasn't blinking as would have been case had the transaxle heated up. On the contrary, the light was steady as should happen in case there is a transaxle malfunction, according to the manual. The AMT was performing okay otherwise, other than this indicator which appeared three to four times during my transit and each time stayed on for at least ten seconds, much to my horror.

When I reached home, I called the SA and updated him about the events. The SA was clueless about the existence of such an indicator but assured me to help if there was any issue.

I didn't see the indicator for a few days until yesterday evening - when I was smoothly driving at a speed of 40 kmph in a more or less congestion-free road and suddenly the transaxle warning indicator showed up and remained steady. Before I could move to the side of the road, fish out my mobile to take a photo, it disappeared. There was no judder or any other drivability issue though. It didn't recur during the next two km and I reached home uneventfully.

I am not sure what to do. Since it happened twice, I can't pass it as an one-off event. If I take it to MASS, they will say there is no problem if the issue can't be reproduced! Will an OBD check by MASS detect the issue? Should I write an email to Maruti? Also, I am curious as to how the warning started showing up only after the last servicing - did MASS screw up something?

Re: Maruti's AMT woes

I wanted to report back on my Ignis (P) Delta AMT experience - I completed 10,000 KMS successfully on the Ignis and I have not encountered any of the AMT issues reported here so far. Touchwood!

I have posted more details on my ownership thread here: URL (Uptown Red Racer - The Maruti Ignis Delta 1.2L Automatic comes home)

The issues are mostly for the small capacity engines - Alto, Celerio and WagonR. The AMTs have been performing well on 1.2 petrol and 1.3 diesel.

A couple of months back when the monsoon was on its peak and humidity at my place was hovering around 90+, I had similar issues in my wife's Celerio AMT. There were mild shudders whenever I take the car out in the morning which used to fade off after driving for 10-15 min. I had similar judder issues with my Swift few years back and the SA at that time told me this can happen due to moisture accumulating on the clutch plates while sitting idle, which goes off once the car runs few km. Thinking the issue with Celerio might be similar to that, I didn't take any action on this and the issue solved on its own after few weeks. Due to some other reasons, I had to sell off my Celerio past month and till then issue hadn't resurfaced if I remember well

Re: Maruti's AMT woes

Hey Guys, I'm really concerned reading this. I am considering the swift zxi amt petrol. Most of the issues reported here seem around Celerio's 1l engine. Does swift give the same issues as well? Should i look for another option. I have 0 experience with AMT, and drove a Polo highline before this in Bangalore, succeding in killing the clutch at barely 7k km.

Most of the issues reported here are pertaining to Maruti's AMT implementation on the 3 cylinder 1.0L engine. On the other day, I had a chance to drive an acquaintance's Swift AMT and it felt much refined and smoother than the Celerio I used to drive. The Swift, if I remember well had 5 digits on the ODO. Also, I have an Ignis AMT in the extended family and it's running well at 25k+.

Alto K10 AMT - experience during the first paid service

My wife drives an Alto K10 AMT. It is 2 years old this Dec, 2018. Car has only 6400 km in the odo as the daily use is only around 7 kms.

Our car too had the AMT juddering issue. When the accelerator is pressed there is no feedback for 2-3 seconds and then there is a sudden surge of almost uncontrollable power. Attempts to resolve this problem during earlier services did not yield any positive outcome.

These were the issues that got addressed as part of the first paid service (at the end of 2 years):

1) AMT juddering issue was addressed (well almost). When driving in D mode, throttling the accelerator is not having the short 'missing' and then the subsequent spurt.

However, I notice that in neutral (N mode) pressing the accelerator still makes you feel that there is some lag before the engine up the revs.

Also, this gear box gets confused when the car is at the end of a little steep ramp (like coming out of a building basement). By the end of the ramp, the gearbox tends to hunt for the right gear resulting in momentary loss of power and some confusion to the driver. Those minor irritants remain. I did not pursue it further because I am not sure if this AMT gearbox can do any better. With fresh competition coming from new Santro, customers will have raised expectation from Alto.

2) There was a small fluid leakage in one of the rear shock absorbs. It was replaced under warranty

3) Car felt wobbly at speeds above 80. Tyre inspection at a nearby center revealed that all 4 rims were bent. Roads are dug up in this part of Bangalore for laying pipes. Probably, bad road surfaces contributed but there is nothing to write home about the rim quality because the car is just 2 years old with less than 6500 km on the odo. Good thing is that the 2 rims with significant bents were replaced under warranty.

Overall, one positive aspect was the genuine care, attention and pro-activity from the new service head (Mr Biju MV) at Mandovi center in Harlur road. We were rather fortunate to meet this down to earth person. Throughout the process, he kept on communicating in a reassuring way - many times walking an extra mile to listen and address concerns. They did not have the spares handy, so ordered and replaced the items (under warranty).

As of today, I will recommend anybody living in the proximity to give this service center a try. It is at a little obscure location and is not easily visible from the main road. Try and meet Mr Biju, vent your problems and I am quite positive now that you too may have a superior overall experience

Instead of leaving selector D mode try and push it to lower gear mode so that car does not hunt when accelerator is "un"pressed

I can relate to this issue. I would suggest that you put the car in manual mode under such conditions. It performs as expected in the manual mode.
I do this on every incline else you get stuck in a vicious cycle wherein the engine starts loading up due to the incline - you press the pedal - gearbox shifts down by one - car shoots forward - you break suddenly and the process repeats.

Re: Maruti's AMT woes

Just asking. In a Standard AT, in case I happen to be stuck in some traffic or at a red light, my tendency is to put it in N and put on the Parking Brake or stomp on the brake. So as to save the clutch.
In an AMT, do many of you do that, or do you just plonk your foot on the brake while the car is still in D?
Because I believe, that you may actually save a lot of wear and tear on the AMT clutch by following what I have suggested above.
