Hi vsrivatsa,

Which oil did you choose and which one are you using now. My ignis 2023 is due for periodic service tomorrow. Its currently running on 0w20 IOCl and as per the thred discussions so far IOCl is the worst of the lot from MGO. Im hoping to get shell hx8 ultra but not sure if the service centre has thus in stock, Can you share your experience on which oil is better?

Thanks in advance.

I buy my own Oil Amazon.in and give it when giving for Service - most of the Service Centers in Bangalore including the Nexa ones accept it.

Recently I went with Total Energies Quartz 9000 Future GF6 and happy with it.

Yes i also have this added to my Amazon wishlist along with castrol magnatec and shell helix hx8. Which oil did you use before total, How does total quartz 9000 compare to shell helix?

Re: Approved Engine Oils by Maruti Suzuki

I am also planning to change the engine oil for my Ignis. I have got it done from Nexa previously but this time I am thinking of getting it done from outside. Out of castrol and total which one is better and how much quantity is needed? 3L or 3.5L? Also, how was the experience with nexa service? I am planning to get the car serviced outside for this time. I stay at sarjapura road.

0W20 Castrol fully synthetic. 3.1 L for the K12M engine.

Did you notice any change with the thicker 0w-40 oil? I am planning to change from 0w-16(specified for use in India) to 5w-30(specified for use in other countries), wanted to check if anyone made the switch on newer K series engines and how did it go.

It felt calmer and muted compared to earlier, but not a night and day difference. The car is going to be due for service in a couple of months, I'll probably go back to specified oil because the running has been really low and doesn't make sense to use synthetic. Maybe will then feel the difference, if any!

Re: Approved Engine Oils by Maruti Suzuki

This is the oil which Maruti recommends for Jimny, Ignis etc.

EcStar. 0W-16. Fully Synthetic. It is not expensive. And its is clearly a good oil. I see that they have been endorsing it for years across vehicle types; a fact which is visible in the Suzuki Headquarters and Museum in Hamamatsu, Japan, where I saw it in August this year.

I think it makes sense to stick with it since Suzuki themselves recommend it and we should pay heed to their own engineering and research. If the vehicle is used a lot then just change the oil more frequently.

Im going to use this oil in the next oil change. The Jimnt takes 3.6 litres including the oil filter. The EcStar can contains 3.5 litres which is what Ive bought and kept. Normally at service they will take the requisite quantity from their drum. So in my case 100ml of oil will come from their drum.

Or else I may choose to use 3.2 litres from the can and add a 300ml can of Liquimoly Ceratec just to keep things nice and smooth in our high stress stop start traffic scenarios.

Re: Approved Engine Oils by Maruti Suzuki

Now that my Ciaz is out of warranty, I chose to change the engine oil & filter at my FNG, and this is what I used.

As to switching to a different grade of engine oil than what the manufacturer recommends, this video would be worth going through before doing so.

This time when I got my Baleno serviced, I was right there at the bay, the whole time and saw that they got these 4 pipes (akin to the petrol dispensing pipes) that are connected to some tanks or drums that you can't see. The mechanic pressed a few buttons, I think indicating the volume of oil he wanted it to dispense. He then just pulls the pipe, inserts it in the engine oil bay and then automatically the oil is dispensed. I didn't expect this at Maruti to be honest. I still prefer to look at the oil being pumped it through the oil can, the old fashioned way.

However for synthetics I think, they will probably use the cans as they won't have it dispensing through the pipes.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I might stick to 0w-16 for some more time and try a fully synthetic option in same grade to see if any difference.

At Nexa showroom I asked them for fully synthetic options, they said they don't provide any and all they have is mineral oil in 0w-16 grade which they pump from a barrel. Will check again with their GM this time.

For Suzuki's, its better to stick to the recommended, as they know their engines better. I bought a preowned 2013 Wagon R for city use and was using a 5w30 grade engine oil for a year. The car never felt peppy, had lesser FE. Recently i pulled out the service history of the car only to notice that the car was running on 0w20 all its life. I couldn't verify the grade since the previous owner lost the owner's manual. Immediately went to the nearest Shell Outlet and got the oil replaced with 0w20. Believe me or not the oil change made a world of difference, the engine felt much more peppier and free revving. All this time i was not using the recommended grade for which i really started cursing as to why i didn't check the history in detail while buying the car from Spinny. Lesson learnt its better to stick to the recommended as the manufacturers know their engines.

Re: Approved Engine Oils by Maruti Suzuki

I believe that the same F8D engine in used in the Alto 800 and older model Altos [BS III and BS IV]. So is there a specific reason why Maruti recommends 5W30 for the former and 20W40 for the latter?

There's a slight catch though, I guess your WagonR is 2013 OBD2 model which requires the use of 0W20 grade oil, whereas my dad's 2012 WagonR requires 5W30 grade which is recommended in the owner's manual too, a few years ago as a common malpractice at MSIL ASCs that they used 0W20/16 even in older cars requiring 5W30 as it reduces their inventory and an average Joe doesn't even give a damn about the same and in fact would appreciate the thinner oil as it makes the engine quieter and actually increases fuel efficiency but would cause increased wear and reduce engine life in long term.
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/techn...ml#post5500172 (Approved Engine Oils by Maruti Suzuki)

Thus the bottom line is, no matter what always stick to the recommended grade as prescribed in OWNER'S MANUAL , also cross check which oil is being used by the ASC, even other ASCs like Hyundai commonly does this malpractice, knowingly or unknowingly.

Thank you
Tony

Re: Approved Engine Oils by Maruti Suzuki

Could fellow bhpians please post the page (s) of Owners Manual mentioning Recommended Lubricants for Wagon R CNG bought and registered in Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune in March 2015.

Also post the Replacement Interval Page (s). The owner of the vehicle (a family friend) did not get the Owners Manual from Dealer while taking delivery or has lost it.

Thank you in advance.
