Thank you so much for your response. Definitely calm down my nerves. The air filter was changed during PMS 2000 kms ago. So I believe Italian tuning it is.
Thanks again!

Re: The Fuel Additives Thread

Fuel Injector cleaner

My Hyundai Accent Gle is 20 years old now. I have never used any additive before for this car. I have used shooters for the Interceptor and Injector cleaner for the Thar, all from Liqui Moly. I ordered this cleaner from Amazon. It holds almost 400 ml and is good enough for 2 tankfuls.

The engine definitely feels smoother and the car accelerates smoother than before.

Whether it is the "snake-oil" effect,I don't know but the car feels peppier than before.

Cheers

Re: The Fuel Additives Thread

I stumbled upon this thread today. I have never used a fuel additive before. Can someone recommend a good additive for my 11 yo Honda City Automatic? It has done about 77K Kms. I always use Shell V-Power. On highways I am getting about 16 kmpl, and in the city (Bangalore), about 9.5 kmpl. Is it necessary to use any additive at all?

I've never used any fuel additive, just 91 octane fuel once in a couple of months, if I feel performance and fuel consumption coming down, get spray done on throttle body and it's components, (once in one or one and half years)and get the results.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. I am a bit relieved knowing theres others who have not used any fuel additives. I have not gotten any spray also done, and that raises new questions as to what this is now! I guess the discoveries never end. I got the following information from Shells website on V Power fuel.

https://www.shell.in/motorists/shell...ell-fuels.html

Not sure if its snake oil and I am experiencing placebo, but so far so good.

Throttle body spray is nothing new, ever since mpfi engine's came into being, every SVC and FNG will do it for you, it's easy, just get yourself a spray and a new set of spark plugs.

I have tried almost every additive available on the market.
My suggestions are (for petrol):
1. One time full bottle use (economical) - Abro Octane Boost
2. One time full bottle use (expensive) - Liqui Moly Speed Tec Benzin or Amsoil PI
3. Regular Use - Adon P or System G

Re: "Sport" mode on as default?

Hello,

I own a Polo GT 1.2 TSI 2019 model.

The car has driven 55k.

My queries-
How to use the VW recommended additives?

Initially they gave me 2 bottles of additives at second service. First they poured it themselves and second for me after 150 km( no further instruction).

In my next service, I asked for additives and they said its only given in alternate services.

Then I started to scratch my head because they didnt have a proof for what they are saying. Moreover booklet had nothing special mentioned about it. And they didnt have it in stock also because it came directly from Germany. G 001780M3 was the additive they used to give.

After searching a lot, since I live in Uttrakhand and there are only 2 service centers there, I didnt find any additive and information about it in nearby center.

I searched a lot and I had the opportunity to go to Delhi. Went to the service center, asked about the additive, and they gave me another one- G 001770A2. Saying the past model G 001780M3 is not coming anymore.

It was cheaper too. And instructions were written to pour the bottle in full tank( compared to past additive which was unavailable and wrote to add in half tank)

I talked to the service advisor but they didnt have any satisfactory answer about when to add additives and what next to do with car( how to drive after adding additive)

I searched in google and chat GPT so I came accross an article about the use of this additive.

Now my question is-

1. I use mostly XP95 in my car. Do I still need to use additive?

2. As the service men said that use it in alternate services, are they right?

3. The article which I searched said if top tier fuel is not available, use it in every 5k km. Now what is the criteria for top tier fuel? Is it 91/95/97 or 100 octane fuel? I dont have any idea about that( because its not mentioned in the article and its a US based one)

4. The article also says use S mode while driving and then add other additive after 100 miles. So we have to drive 100 miles in S mode after adding the first additive? And if so, after addition of second additive, do we have to drive in S mode again?(because its not written any where). And if so then for how my Km shall we go for S mode after second additive addition.

5. I have recently got my ECU tuned stage 1. Will Driving with S mode be an issue with my DSG for a long run? Or should I get the TCU tuned as well? The prices for TCU tuning is 20 k approximately by GT tunerz, Delhi.

6. If additives are very important and if better additives are there in market I will go for that. I have heard about ‘Add on P’ by Indian oil. ( Made in France). Which one would be better?

I didnt know where to put this thread in S mode or Additive section.

Yesterday only I have added the additive to full tank( as wriiten ) and I have covered around 20 km in S mode.

Kindly suggest.

Additives are the car world equivalent of prdoucts with the placebo effect.

Stick to timely annual services with high quality fully synthetic oil, everything else will add marginal benefits which definitely aren’t worth the price!

As for your TCU, I would say just hold on and drive the car around a bit. If your tune is recent then your ECU is still learning and that will definitely change how your car puts down power over time. If you feel your DSG is slipping too much or unable to handle the torque then a TCU tune can be considered. IMHO, a stage 1/1+ tune doesn’t really need a TCU tune, it is only after an aggressive stage 2 tune that such a tweak should be considered.

Enjoy the new tune!

Thanks. Its a relief reply. What synthetic oil you suggest? I have heard Motul are best.

Should we consider what VW recommends?

I am just worried they might just put a bit less quality 5w40 not the best in the market because of the cost issues.

By TCU reply you mean I should go for S mode more?

Hi,

Any comments on VW specified fuel tank additives?

I haven't used these till date. Still using LM Injection Cleaner once a month - going well.

Yes VAG mentions to use the additive at every oil change service. You can decrease the interval if your fuel quality is low. IMO every 6-7K Kms works the best.

Also I have seen better results with LM Injection Cleaner and LM Fuel Additive. Rowe is another good german brand you can go for though I am not sure if you will get it around easily.

1. Depends on the kind of additive. Injector cleaners should be used once per 10/15K Kms (Based on the service interval you are following). Fuel additive can be optional when using XP95. Using them once might not be a bad idea though apart from the dent in your wallet.

2. Once per service.

3. Top tier fuel simply means EN 228 compliant fuel. It is a European standard for fuel. Mostly in India there are no EN 228 complaint fuel.

4. S Mode recommendation is just to ensure the RPMs get high.

5. Upto your wallet. However TCU tune will bring in added power/torque figures while putting the DSG under more stress.

6. I would avoid additives from Indian companies due to their QA not being very good specifically for these high end engines and their injectors. There are multiple German/foreign brands available in India now.

Pro Tip: Get the fuel filter replaced sooner (Every alternate or 3rd service) which will help keep the fuel line clean.
