Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Sometime back i had replaced my speedometer cable.Had to remove the entire instrument cluster. Here are images of what it looks like.If any of you ever wanted to see what it looks like.
Since i am on this topic was wondering if there was anyway to increase the brightness or light intensity in the cluster. At times i find it hard to see the km readings.i literally have to shine a torch.I don't know whether a led/bulb is busted.
Any one done any such mod.I had read some posts earlier on teambhp with regards to the instrument cluster but that was more related to changing the look by adding different graphics etc.
I am also attaching images of the rear bumper repair after it was hit by a rogue auto driver.Trust me getting the OHC bumpers aligned is a pain.

If any OHC owner wants readable images of the owners handbook do let me know i can post them on this thread.Would be delighted to share them.

i too face this problem in my OHC, not that bad but really not happy with the backlighting of the instrument cluster and have seen a few OHCs suffer from poor backlighting.

do you have the service manual for OHC? if yes, please share.

options you have for struts:
Munjal Showas - very very difficult to find. also, only strut is not available - one has to buy full kit. fluid charged.
Gabriel - Honda OE replacement - fluid charged.
TRW - Honda OE replacement - gas charged.
None of the spare stores in here have heard of TRW making dampers. I wasnt able to find any website to the company. Could you please guide me to the webpage / dealer / importer details so i could order a set for myself.

Thanks.

website (no India specific website though):
Shock Absorbers | TRW Automotive Aftermarket

while i was looking for struts, my preference was Munjals but could not find it anywhere in mumbai, and TRW and Gabriel was all what was avaialble, i went with TRW because these were gas filled. i bought them from Shetty Motors (Opera House Store - +912223821390, Turbhe Store - +912227830840).

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Planning on making a photo montage of all the OHC'S here. The Image will look some what like this. Those interested can post a pic of the car from a side view.Such as the image attached.I did not have a high res pic of my car hence the low quality.
Any one have any ideas/suggestions?

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

can anyone suggest a good car cover that fits OHC, and where to buy it from in Mumbai/Thane?

i'm moving out of India again for a few years and am planning to drive my OHC to my hometown (Jalandhar) and park it there; somehow not convinced with the idea of selling it.

Head to Milan subway in Santacruz west.Just off the highway.I bought a cover for my city from there for 750Rs.Its a good quality one and has a strap around the middle of the car.
These do not have separate pockets for the rear view mirrors nor does it have any zip for the driver side door. Its Practical and functional.Does not tear or cut easily.I have been using it for almost 3years now.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

This is a really great thread for all owners of the OHC. I'm looking for replacements for my headlights as well as a few bits n pieces here and there on the car (Type II Jan 2000 1.3 Exi).

Could you guys raycers_honda / Danlalan share contacts of any good shops here in Mumbai who have reliable spares for the OHC?

@raycers_honda - where did you get your OHC repaired for the bumpers? I know exactly what you mean about the problems you had.. the OHC bumpers are prone to severe rusting on the bumper mounts and the plastic/metal supports. They are really a pain to have them fixed well and rigidly.

all the parts you need should be available with Prakash Motors (Santacruz) or Shetty Motors (Turbhe, and Opera House). have bought entire suspension setup, headlights/taillights, clutch/pressure plate, timing belt, etc. from these shops in last one year from these places for my OHC Vtec.

headlights should cost you around 1600-1800 a piece (or original Honda at around 3000 a piece) and taillights are 1100-1200 a piece.
