Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

@raycers_honda - where did you get your OHC repaired for the bumpers? I know exactly what you mean about the problems you had.. the OHC bumpers are prone to severe rusting on the bumper mounts and the plastic/metal supports. They are really a pain to have them fixed well and rigidly.[/quote]

I got them done from the khar danda road local garage guys.I basically went to Oberai Suspension in Khar. Now he started doing general repair work.He then suggested i head to this place in Khar danda where the whole road is lined up with garages.
And As infotech58 mentioned you could check those places for spares etc.
At opera house is also Chadda motors. They also keep some ohc stuff in stock.

Vandit & Desmosedici i also wouldnt mind installing AUX lamps for my city.Maybe if we buy them in a lot we could get a better deal. But need to see how they look.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

My exhaust is Gone kaput.I feel its completely rusted and broken in parts. The car sounds like a race car now.Loud.The end can or the end of the tail pipe is broken off.
Now since i am going to put a new exhaust i was wondering if anyone has anything in mind.As in something that will still keep the efficiency in mind.Maybe stock maybe something else i am open to ideas. Also if anyone knows a good place around santacruz , bandra , khar or even andheri to fix this. The guys at khar danda use bad material and they don't last.

Whatever you do, do not go to Arya Honda to get a replacement exhaust done.. They charged a friend over 13k when he got it done on his city a year n a half ago.. If you can source a good deal on spare then getting it done from a good mechanic will be much cheaper.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Ok just got back from paying them a visit. As usual they were pretty crowded, but here's the quotes for stuff.. all approx

1. Clutch+Pressure plates = 3900/- (japanese make - dunno the name)
2. Headlights - 1900 - 2000 each (Depo). I asked for Stanley but he said they didnt have them.
3. Honda Monogram set - 250-300/-
4. Fog Lamps - 500 each for a Lumax rectangular lamp. Again there were a few others but he said he'd have to see the car's bumper contours to be able to say for sure which ones, but for the Lumax ones he showed me, they're simply too rectangular to be able to fit into the contours of the OHC type II's bumpers. So im in a bit of a fix here.
5. Door window outer strip (black metal strip along the window) - 500-600/-
6. Door Mirror assembly (both sides) - 1000-1100/-

@raycers_honda - i checked for the price of your exhaust units. He said they come as a 3 piece. The end piece alone was around 1500/-. The entire exhaust unit he quoted around 4000-5000 bucks.

So guys, what do we do about the fogs/auxillary lamps?? The Lumax ones he showed me were definitely not gonna work for the shape of the OHC's bumper cutouts for the lamps.

Also - for my headlight replacements... are Depo branded ones good?? Or should i order them directly from Honda??

One thing he didnt have was the Original Wheel Covers/ Hub Caps.. I'm desperately looking for the wheel covers that came with the OHC Type II's and i'm thinking the last place i'd get them is probably only Kurla?? Anyone know of good contacts there? or any place i can get the Original Honda wheel caps?

Hey thanks a lot for finding out. I am guessing i need only the end piece.
You could go for the depo head lights if you think the quality, fit and finish is good.Make sure its not a fake.
As for the Door window outer strip (black metal strip along the window) why don't you go for the chrome strip like i have in my car.It gives it a nice look .

A couple of months back i had the original wheel caps removed from my godown and disposed off.I had stored them for quite sometime.Wish i knew earlier i would've given them to you.

As for the foglamps let me check somewhere too if i can find them.I had seen some OHCs with round fog lamps sometime back.Must have been a custom fit job.

Thanks. But i have no clue how good the Depo brand is n how to tell if they are fake or not.

Damn.. I wish i had asked about the wheel caps earlier.. I wanted to go for alloys a while back but decided against it after a few guys reported drop in mileage with alloys n a few who said the handling didn't feel too good, but that's a long story..

I'll have to keep looking i guess.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

since this morning, i am seeing the speedometer needle of my OHC behaving strangely. it sometimes work well, sometimes it drops to zero, and sometimes it tends to drop by 20-30km reading when i ease my foot off the accelerator. what to check? what's the cost of a new speedo cable?

RPM needle, trip meter are working fine.

time to go with FFE. check automech. a nicely done FFE sounds just perfect on OHC.

go with Excedy clutch/pressure plate. should cost around 4200-4500 with bearing. i know numerous OHCs running on them, they're better than stock.

i bought pair of headlights (Depo) for 3400 an year ago. another member bought (from Delhi) for even cheaper (i think 2800).

door mirror assembly - automated one - bought one an year ago for 1100 but does not work well with the electronic control (when you press UP, the mirror goes right, when you press LEFT, the mirror goes down, and so on), so verify before you buy.

what all does Honda monogram set include? I am in need of front logo (someone stole it); probably I could use entire set and paint them black and put on my car and see how it looks.

Its definitely the speedo cable. The inside metal wire and plastic beading gives way when this happens. Faced the same symptoms when mine gave up.Its a 20 minute job.I paid 475 including labour for mine.I don't know the brand name or make.
They remove the instrument cluster, remove the cable from there and from the front under the hood.
Just make sure They fit the cluster back properly because then on our roads it starts to make a little noise. Not Much but still a rattle is a rattle.

WIPER

Changed the wiper motor (the plastic thing which rotates & has teeth was spoilt ,could not source the plastic thing so had to replace the whole motor)

Cost of Part/motor - 1600
Linkage - 430
Wielding the rusted firewall (i guess that's what its called) - 150

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Its so great to see a living, thriving OHC Vtec thread. That one exists 9 years after the car was launched is a testament to the car itself.

I just purchased a 2003 Vtec from an equally obsessive first owner. I'd like to keep the car NA and modify without opening the head. My order of to-do modifications are as follows:

1) Strut Tower Brace. Good source anyone?

2) Cold Air Intake + Intake Manifold- Has there ever been a mass produced CAI by Greddy/Injen/AEM/ HKS/ K&N for our cars? Or has it always been a custom job?

3) Fidanza Flywheel

4) Catback Exhaust - I'm guess I'll need to custom build my Catback exhaust to accomodate a high flow cat converter as well? Any known city exhaust shops in the Mumbai region?

5) Headers - Any bolt ons available?

Any suggestions would be more than welcome, especially from the guys who have had loong relationships with these cars.
