i dont think the bonnet is one of those panels a lot of us would have replaced !! but without a doubt your mechanic has picked up a used bonnet from some total loss vehicle, repaired it and giving it to you

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Just redid my handbrake setting this morning. Now lets see for how much time it holds up.Problem is if this setting ain't done right the handbrake keeps getting loose. There is a lock system for the handrake is the rear brake system. If that little lever ends up facing towards the outside the handbrake keeps getting loose. Now lets see for how long todays setting last. The mechanic gave a promise that it will not loosen.
Now another thing is i experience loud thuds when going over a rough patch.I suspect my suspension needs overhauling or replacement. When inquired about the Munjal showa shocks the Garage owner said not to go in for those because most have them sold now are refurbished and sealed and resold. He told me to go in for some twa make.Something like that. Can any one confirm this.

@raycers

Yes the Munjal Showas you dont brand new all the ones which come in sealed packing are recondionted ones and they dont last at all, have wasted 12k on munjal showas only to later find out that the shocks were refurb ones.

Better to Go for Gabriel or TRW both are excellent.

Finally did the exhaust in my OHC. But just the muffler.Costed me 2000+300 labour. It comes with a 6 month warranty.Local make. But seems like good quality and is galvanized.Dont know how much it would help from mild steel. The old one was badly rusted in multiple parts.

The motors are not a problem, whereas the whole mechanism has been serviced. The rubber channel is indeed the issue as whenever i spray wd40, its as good as new for some days.

Try chadda auto parts.I dont know the exact address but its on the main road on the right hand side if your facing towards the north. They normally have stuff you dont find anywhere else.Do let me know how much you purchase the window rubber linings for.
I know of chadda. Have tried for the window rubber channels at city motors. They dont stock it. Will try chadda as im going to buy a headlight and the head gasket from opera house next week. So i shall post if i get one.
If you find any shops in the suburbs who have the window linings, please let me know .
Btw, many owners have replaced their suspension setup and have indeed purchase genuine ones. As far as i know, the manufaturing date is printed on them. Search for some suspension overhaul threads.

Hey I got the belts and the ignition coil checked. The ignition coil came up fine and was supplying a healthy voltage. The timing belt was worn out and the tensioner bearing/pulley too. Got both of those replaced. The has been an improvement in the cars pickup. I have also changed the fuel this time around from HP to Shell. Car feels smoother. Don't know if this is my mind playing games. The car is going to touch 40k. Ya just 40k.

For the rubber channels just go to Girgaum church, take the right just after the church n 50 m on the left is a shop called "Naunidh Motors". Speak to Jagjit Singh. He will give you what you need. I got my window channels replaced from him. They work superbly now. Costs 900 per window channel.

Affirmative. Got mine for my 2000 type II OHC. No problems at all. Had the same issue as you with the front channels. The rubber was old n worn. So got it replaced from him before the rains. No worries. He's reliable.

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Saw This OHC yesterday, with a custom job done for fog/Ancillary lights.
It was put on a bracket with the wiring neatly done. The stock fog lamp cover/panel was intact. From far it looked like a neat job.Even from close too until you see the exposed wiring. Now maybe that is waterproof and well covered with electrical tape.
Only disadvantage i see is it sticks out a bit which in turn might get damaged easily.
(sorry for the bad quality of pics.I clicked them from my phone)

Re: 1st Gen Honda City Owners - Problems Areas, Fuel Efficiency and more

Update: after analysing the car today, only the tappet cover had hardened and hence the oil was leaking out.Whereas the CEL was due to the iac valve I suppose (the rpms were uneven for the past few days). Anyway had a doubt whether the head gasket had blown as it didn't shows any symptoms and it indeed hadn't !

Got the following from chadda motors at opera house:
Tappet cover : 550
Three bond tube (to seal the gasket) : 100
Window channel (rubber linings- yes they have it in stock for the type 2 city): 850 for each front window
Head gasket ( didn't buy it though) : 1400
Depo headlight (didn't buy) : 1800per piece ( this was 1350 six months back :o )
Further enquired about munjal showa shocks but they said they aren't available, a fellow member pointed out the same. Instead they asked me to buy the equivalent known as 'excel power' for 2.3 a pair ! Same was said for lower arms. Some chinese make ! What's with the original stuff vanishing ?

Reminds me,i need to get my headlights replaced too.

Also it appears I'm going to need replenishing the steering oil every two weeks cos of the leak. The trouble is,i don't know if us the entire steering rake that needs to be overhauled like my mechanic says... For really 7k our is it just a case of a simple oil seal replacement which would be no more than 800 bucks.

Does anyone know how to tell?? Or is the mechanic just trying a rip off?

Just get your underbody washed thoroughly. Then check from where its leaking.Incase its a crack in the frame then that would be sad sad news.Otherwise its just the problem of the oil seal.
Only way to find out is by going ahead and replacing the oil seal first. And then if there is a leakage you'll know.

Please let us know where you getting the headlights from. It would be helpful if the price for each left and right would be shared. Thanks.
