previous Santro Exide OEM lasted for five years/55000 km. Baleno Exide OEM is 2 years 11 months and going strong. I once drained the battery, within three months of purchase of the car, as I had left the boot open for two days in the garage. It was jump started, then I drove it for around 30 kms, did not need external charge.

That would probably qualify for a Guinness record!
Could you give a few pointers to what, if anything, you did to help it last that long?
In fact most of the complaints of premature failure were about Exide batteries.

Nothing special since it was a maintenance free !

1. Always idled the car for 1 min on the morning start.

2. Never ran ICE when the engine was not running.

3. Periodic service for the car(not for the battery specifically).

4. Kept the terminals free from rust.

5. Always switched off all the lights/ICE before cranking.

And, bought a new Exide with 5 years warranty.

My earlier two Maruti Omni vehicles (Dec 1995 & July 2000) had factory fitted Exide batteries that lasted for more than 4 years each.

Hyundai Santro Xing XG (Feb 05) has a factory fitted Exide maintenance free battery which is three and a half years old as of today and is still going strong.

Current Maruti Alto LXi (May 08) which is 3 months old has an Exide maintenance free battery!

On my Santro, Battery ran for as long as I had it with me, that was just 2 years.
On my Accent Viva (Petrol), Battery ran for 4 years, and had to replace it, because my kid left the hazard lamps blinking for about 24hrs, after which I couldn't get it recharged.

I was thinking my battery life on Accent was cut too short because of unattended battery usage for prolonged time, but looking at some owners hear, I don't feel so bad any more

Hi,

I have a Scorpio. Finally I changed my OEM Amaron Battery after 5 Years and one Month.
It was still working fine, just that on my way back from Manali when i was changing a flat tyre with wipers, lights and the Stereo on, it didn't start.
We did a push start.

After returning to Delhi it had been working fine for the lat 2 weeks, but i don't want to take chances, so i changed it.

No guesses that i want an Amaron again.
The Amaron OEM battery was 65D26R, white and black in color. The Amaron Distributor and the Amaron Regional Sales Manager in Delhi told me that the model for replacement is 90D26R, which is green in color. I am wondering if it is as good as the OEM.

The mechanics generally say that a replacement battery will never last as long as the original OEM battery. Is that true ?

Are the replacement batteries of the same companies inferior to the OEM batteries sold to the manufacturers ?

Anyways I bought the new Amaron Battery for Rs 4000/= in exchange for the old 5 year old but working Amaron Battery. Is that a fair price ?

Styler.
