Reacently I have been to nagpur on my 6months old safari, the stretch after adilabad is worst for atleast 20km, it was night & heavily raining, what i noticed is a MIL flashing, stoped the car in the toll gate & cranked the enging, the MIL( Malfunction Indication Light) was still on, called up tata call center, they advised me get it checked in nagpur service center. Thought will get it checked next day, well, the next day when i crancked the engine, the light wasn't flashing, now im back to my home town will have to get the sensors checked. Any clue what would have happned?

On cold starts in the morning, the starter motor sounded like it did not want to be woken up, now and then the horn used to sound weaker and sometimes on turning the ignition key, there would be a "chingggg" noise from the starter and the vehicle would have to be re cranked.

Take your Safari to TASS and they will hook up a laptop to check the status from the ECU. There can be dozens of reasons why the Check Engine light comes up.

Time alone is not a factor. I have had a battery that lasted 5 and half years without showing any symptom and then on one day simply gave up the ghost. Check the electrolyte in each cell which will give a better indication to its 'life'.

My 4wd TCIC is 1.45L kms and am thinking I'll go in for a suspension overhaul. No issues as such but some creaking sounds and I don't want to push my luck with so many kms done!

What all should be changed?
- Front and rear shocks - which brand and cost?
- Bushings and all rubber parts - assuming full kit is available, what's the cost?
Anything else? What would be total damages?
Thanks
Adi

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Hi All,

I was facing problem of leaking power steering oil since couple of months. Took it to KHT motors but they were not able to detect the leak. Topped up 2 times in last month. I was on my way to concorde when luckily met Lukeskywalker and Pavan Kadam on the way. Took car to Prerna motors and leak was detected in one of the pipes. Oil was dripping on the shield thats why wasn't visible on the floor etc.

Other problem I am facing: I am getting a noise when I take off my right foot from "A" pedal to change gear. Its like something hitting on a running fan. its more pronounced in mornings and evenings when car is cold. Car is missing a beat also since this thing started. Any Idea what can cause the noise?

BTW it was great meeting Srihari and Pavan. That was my first meeting with any tbhpian and pleasure was mine all the way. We need to meet again sometime.

Hari - how much did the shield cost?

Also, I need a help from Safari owners, specifically those based out of Bangalore - one of the "bonnet damper" rubbers of my Safari has been missing for some time now. Here is a picture to explain it better (courtesy Rahulk76's thread on LTOR). I have been following up with KHT motors for over a month now without any results. They say that this part number is not available in Tata Motors' database (I find this hard to believe) and hence they are trying to procure it from their "local" sources, which might take time. Any pointers on where in Bangalore can this be procured would be highly appreciated.

Hi Rahul, both the shields cost me a total of 2513/- incl of taxes. I recently got one of those rubber bushes you mentioned replaced at Prerana, I could ask them if they have a few more available, some of us have also specifically asked for smaller plastic parts which usually go missing during service, we should be getting them soon is what I have heard.

Luke - You say both the shields. I lost my shield that lives directly under the engine (engine shield). What is the other shield you replaced ?

The underbody shields consist of two pieces, one with holes is fixed under the engine, the other is fixed further back under the transmission.

The older ones which were removed may give a better idea

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Hello Team-bhpians,
my TCIC safari 4x2 has this issue wherein the rpm drops after turning on the ac where as most cars i know there is a slight bump in the rpm by say 50-100(appx may be, not sure, please correct me if I am wrong). so is this normal with the TCIC model or is this the case with dicor as well?
Other thing is interiors of my Beauty are all worn out and cracked at some places(door pads,A pillar Plastic,Driver side sun visor ) so was thinking of getting it replaced by the dicor interior trims. will it fit directly, has any team-bhpian done it,if yes I would really appreciate if someone could know how much it costs?
Thank you.

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Dears,

Could you please help me with some info related to central lock unit warranty. Seems my 2011 June LX central locking unit has issues and needs to be replaced. Service center guys in calicut says this unit (which is from hella) has only one year warranty. This unit came with the LX as standard fitment. I have only added the minda remote lock as an after market job.

Looks like someone is trying to pull a fast one - assuming that your vehicle (and not just the central locking) was purchased in June '11.

Just ask them to point out in the original Vehicle warranty where it is written that the central locking has a one year warranty. They can object to the Minda after-market add-on unit, but then you can tell them that it is an ADD-ON unit that doesn't interfere with the Central Locking functionality. Warranty period for the vehicle is for all the parts in the vehicle other than consumables, and not different for a few parts (according to the A.S.S. guys' convenience).

Did you not get the extended warranty for your vehicle?

Yes, I do have the extended warranty as well. I was just going through the user manual. Does this mean that since the central locking came from Hella as OEM the warranty is from their side and may be for just one year?

''As for such parts as tyres, batteries, transfer case, rubber parts, electrical equipment and fuel injection equipment, power steering equipment, A.C. equipment not manufactured by us but supplied by other parties, this warranty shall not apply, but buyers of the vehicle shall be entitled to, so far as permissible by law, all such rights as we may have against such parties under their warranties in respect of such parts. Our Dealers/TASC’s will assist the purchaser in taking up the complaint with the respective manufacturers and their decision on the warranty will be final''

re: The Tata Safari 2.2L Technical / Problems Thread

Not so simple in the case of Central Locking: that functionality is controlled by the Chassis Electronics module, which is Tata supply not following the logic of that generic statement from the User Manual.
