re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

Travelled around 250 km, 100% AC, 60% NH & 40% city, MID was showing FE of 16.2 km/lit, but it actually returned 14.2 km/lit ( TFM). It appears MID shows approx 1.5 to 2 km/ lit more than the actual FE. Is it same way for other Verna Diesels as well?

One more querry: the doors do not auto lock after the car moves. I have to manually lock the doors by pressing the button provided. Auto lock feature is a very common one & Hyundai should have provided this in Verna or, am I missing some trick with regard to auto lock of all the doors??

Thanks

The auto lock feature after you cross 40kmph is available. Just that its deactivated in the new car. Go to the service center and get it activated. Its a 2 min job.

The doors autolock in mine right since delivery. Also, I think the speed is adjustable. Mine autolocks in betwen 15-20 kmph. Contact the service center and they will do this for you.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

There are so many fluidic Verna users reporting in here, why isnt there as much ownership threads?

Requesting all the owners of the new Verna to post their ownership threads as the car has got a bashing in this forum and I guess the individual threads will balance out the negative impressions of the car.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

Thank you all for the response. I will take up the problem of autolock with the service station on my next visit.

But no one responded to the issue of actual FE v/s MID FE. In my case I always find the actual FE is less by 1.5-2 km/lit( TFM) when compared with MID FE. IMO it should be fairly close. In case other Verna owners have a different experience, then fuel quality & quantity may be the culprit. I use BPCL ordinery diesel. Expecting upates from other Verna owners plz.

Cheers

I totally agree with you Chitta.. I've observed the same on my Fluidic CRDi.. And my FE typically wavers around 15.5 (on the MID) and 13.8 (TFM) with mostly city driving..

I experienced the same. The MID reading was showing 16 km/lit, but manual check was 14.5 km/lit. So, I have changed the gas station last two times. The MID and the manual calculation almost matched last 2 times. I think it has something to do with the gas station and the points they fill.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

Mileage for the the 1.6 VTVT is increasing as the car crunches more and more miles. Till abt 500kms, the FE was about 11-11.5. Now crossed 1000kms and the FE has definitely increased to about 12.5 kmpl

Sorry for the delay as I was checking the same again. I am having variations which could be caused by the fact that I always top up the diesel. I try and fill to the brim because more diesel means fewer fuels stops

Last week had done 602 kms with 460 kms on highway and 142 kms in the city with major part of the city run done after I returned from the long trip. The MID had shown a mileage of 19.8 but the actual mileage was 16.34. But this can be attributed to the fact the highway run had been done to check mileage at speeds below 100 kmph peak MID was 22.3. Hence the city run must of given bad mileage as I was stuck on a bad jam on Mysore Road.

Just returned from another trip of 635 kms this morning with around 40 kms in the city only. The MID showed 16.5 but actual mileage was 17.24. This difference can be attributed to the bad traffic in the city on saturday late morning as I was heading out of Bangalore. Returned this morning at good speeds 110-120 kmph and since I reached outskirts of Bangalore by 8 a.m. missed the early morning office going traffic.

Hence in my opinion the MID is good indicator but it is always better to rely on the tank full method.

My car has run 4887 kms as on date

Cheers

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

@KPS : Thanks KPS for your remarks. But let me tell you bad or good traffic, economy driving or spirited driving etc. has nothing to do with the variation in MID FE & actual FE.

I always make sure the tank is full upto the brim, the last five lit. or so takes so much time, as because diesel produces lots of foam & the filling boy should have patience to allow the foam settle down. In correct filling of the tank will surely lead to wrong FE figures.

In my case the variation in FE is always 1.5-2 km/lit, actual being less than the MID. However Hydswift has reported almost matching FE after changing the fuel pump. I will try this next time & will update in the forum.

FYI, new Swift owners are reporting almost similar FE figures both as per MID & actual. Then why can n't Hyundai do this? This is not a very complicated mechanism IMO.

Thanks

Try filling regularly from COCO pumps. That's the best bet. If you already are filling from one, please don't shift unless you are way too sure the new pump is good & fair by all means.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

4000 KM ownership review:

When trying to upgrade my car from Swift, I have shortlisted, Altis, Vento, SX4, and Verna since all have diesel variants and I was looking only for a diesel car.

Corolla Altis Diesel: Went beyond my budget for the features that I was looking for. The base variants did not have anything appealing except the engine and Corolla branding. So, dropped it from my list since the premium variant is costing a lot. Did not go for TD as well.

Vento Diesel: I did TD the car and found the engine response was not too punchy. I am not sure if it is because of the TD vehicle maintenance. The engine noise was very high inside the car. I prefer quite interiors. Of course, the Swift was noisy as well, but when buying a C segment car, I think we have to take this as an important point.

SX4: Average interiors and features list. The interiors are very outdated. Again, very under powered engine for a car of that size. However, I really liked the roominess of the vehicle. The driving seat position was high for a comfortable driving. When I spoke to the Maruthi sales guy, to my surprise, his response was very bad. All I asked him was to give a few discounts on the accessories and he did even oblige to that. His statement was “If you are interested with the price I have quoted, buy it and he also stated that he cannot do anything beyond that” I was not too happy with the response though I was a loyal Maruthi customer for 7 years. So, dropped the idea of looking into SX4.

ANHV: I have a friend who is very much into cars. He owns a couple of car dealerships in Karnataka. When I spoke to him, he asked me to wait until the ANHV is launched and then take a decision. The first time I got to see it was on 10-May. The dealer received a car for the launch. The sales person called me to have a look at it, but couldn’t go for a TD. He called me again on 13-May that I can go for a TD. The TD vehicle was brand new, so a very apt vehicle for a TD. I did my TD for about 5 KM mostly in the city condition. No looking back, I went and paid the booking amount on 14-May. Got my car mid July.

Engine performance: Very smooth and good responsive engine. No turbo lag. Very quite when compared to other cars that I have TD’ed. It’s really fun to drive such a smooth and responsive engine. I am more of a city driver than highways. Generally clocks around 40KM per day within city. The extra power helps in great manoeuvrability within the city. Of course, I hardly used 6th gear due to city driving condition.

Interiors: Good fit and finish. Very good quality. I read somewhere about falling parts, which I don’t agree. Too much of beige colour was used inside. I had changed my seat covers to black leatherette, so neutralized it a bit. Please see attached photos.

Seating comfort: I am 5ft 11in. The driver seat is comfortable with good support. The height adjustable feature helps a lot. The rear seat is a little low when compared to other cars that I have looked. However, no one in my family complained about it so far. I have asked the car accessories guy to put more cushion for the rear seat covers. I believe the height increased a little bit because of that.

Handling: The most discussed topic in this forum. I felt the handling was much better than the previous generation Verna’s. The suspension is still more on the softer side. Within city the softer suspension is a boon, very comfortable. The suspension works great by taking most of the impacts on bad road conditions. However, I did post about the thud noise when going thru unexpected potholes due to softer suspension. I felt that was not good. I am not sure why Hyundai did not look into this specially for Indian road conditions.

On highways, when driving around 110 KMH, its Wallowy as Zappo review states. However, It did not bother me at all when driving at 110 KMH. None of the other passengers in the car complained about any discomfort. I am not a driver who goes beyond 120 KMPH, so I am absolutely okay with the current condition.

FE
Manual verification: 14.5 + at least 4 times I checked under city conditions.

MID FE was showing: 16 average all the 4 times. Initially, could not understand why the numbers were different. I have changed the gas station last 2 times and the readings are almost matching now.

Did not go on a long drive to check the highway mileage

ICE: Average. Definitely needs an upgrade (amp/speakers/woofer) for the music lovers. I am going to upgrade the speakers soon.

Features and their quality: Excellent. Reverse camera, folding mirrors, blue tooth and so on are definitely handy. Bluetooth when synced with my iphone worked seamlessly. Remote boot door open button was one feature that I feel got missed.

Ground clearance: So far no issues with the 163 GC.

Overall: I am very happy with the buy. Very peppy engine and love the extra power. The engine noise is very low inside the car which makes the interior very comfortable. Definitely a head turner so far where ever I go with its stunning looks. :-) If anyone has any specific questions, I will be happy to provide more information.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

Nice summary at crossing the 4K milestone. The Verna is no doubt a very good package & if its going to be used mostly within the city, then nothing in this segment can beat it. Thanks for sharing the interior pictures, I loved your seat covers, good that you went for a darker shade to contrast the beige interiors. Have you started your ownership thread, if yes then please share the link over here.

Enjoy your Verna & keep us updated.

re: Review: 2nd-gen Hyundai Verna (2011)

@ Swiftnfurious: Thanks for your valuable feedback. As I understand, you have upgraded from Swift to Verna. Before my Verna purchase, I was seriously considering the new Swift diesel & had booked one infact simply because I require the boot very rarely. Do you feel, apart from the boot, interior space & some more features, Verna is a real upgrade from Swift. Can you please comment on the following parameters of both Swift DDIS & Verna CRDI.

1. Calmness in side the cabin.
2. Ease of driving.
3. Ride
4. Handling
5. Power from the engine.
6. Stability at high speed.
7. Highest speed on NH of both where you feel the car is totally under your control.
8. AC performance.

Thanks

This comparision is based on the 2007 Swift VDI model Vs New Hyundai Verna:

1. Calmness in side the cabin. - Obviously Verna, very quite interior when compared to Swift. The insulation is very good.

2. Ease of driving. - Did not find much difference in city condition though Verna comes with a boot.

3. Ride - Verna is comfortable. As commented, the softer suspension of Verna for me is very good in city driving condition. The stiffer suspension in Swift used to make the ride uncomfortable at times.

4. Handling - Cannot compare these 2 vehicles interms of handling. My VDI did not have ABS. However, braking is very good in Verna when compared to Swift.

5. Power from the engine. - Obviously Verna due to added BHP

6. Stability at high speed. - Did not find much difference since I did not go beyond 110 KMPH on both the vehicles. They behaved the same.

7. Highest speed on NH of both where you feel the car is totally under your control. - 110 KMPH

8. AC performance. - Verna
