My Octavia is in its 6th year and EW is expiring in March 2025. I noticed yellowing of the right front DRL. I had enquired with TAFE Mangalore regarding changing them under EW when I had gone there for 75k service last week. Today, the SA called me to say that the EW is serviced by Bajaj Allianz and it does not cover the headlight unit. I don't have the EW document to check the exclusions.

Have any of the members here had this experience and got it changed under EW?
I don’t think warranty is something for insurance provider to decide. Yellowing of DRLs is definitely a manufacturing defect and not based on usage. Escalate this to Skoda.

I was planning to do that. I asked Tafe to place the order for a warranty replacement and forward the rejection email to me, based on which I was planning to escalate to Skoda customer care. However, in two days, Tafe sent a message that the replacement had been approved under warranty and that they had ordered parts!! . I was waiting for it to arrive and be fitted before posting it here, as I don't trust both Tafe Mangalore and Skoda one bit.

Re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Hello, folks. I have a used 2015 Skoda Octavia. I'm looking to upgrade the infotainment system. My car comes with the MIB 1, if I'm not wrong. I'm looking to upgrade to an MIB 2 or MIB 2.5. The prices I've been quoted for new ones are pretty steep in Bangalore.
I'm okay with getting a used one. Anybody who has got any leads for this or can point me in the right direction, please do.

Hey, thank you for that. I think I got his lead from some post somewhere already and checked with him for an audio sustem. Unfortunately, he doesn't.
Also, will the new gen system/screen on a Slavia/Kushaq fit on my 2015 car's space for the audio system, I wonder.

Re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Good morning BHPians,

Our 1.8 TSi is in its 5th year of service. Due to the lack of maintenance schedule documents and extended warranty coverage, several repair works are left to the interpretation of the ASC or the service advisor, who mostly turn out to be impatient youngsters, offering no ears to our concerns or suggestions.

Service diagnostics and inspection had these findings, though our important concerns were occasional gear slippage in lower RPMs, and suspension checks.

1. Engine coolant flushing
2. Anti-roll bar replacement (CONN Link)
3. Engine mounting replacement, for vibrations observed by them, besides
4. Worn out brake disc and lining, wiper blade and nuts and bolts etc.

The scheduled service was completed without tasks, but they sent us repair estimates for the parts listed.

I asked for an open inspection of DSG Transmission cum mechatronic and fluid replacement, a scheduled task part of the maintenance program especially when a client reports occasional gear slippage at lower RPM. Gurudev refused, citing the OBD report and claims no faults hence neither an open inspection nor a fluid change is required.

Whereas an ASC in Coimbatore did an open inspection and fluid change during his 60000 KM 4th Year for VRS 230, without even asking once.

Has any 1.8TSI rider here done a DSG inspection - Fluid change and coolant Flushing as part of the service? A lack of documentation in the user guide leaves me puzzled asking for help from the community. A recent example I read is the yellowing Headlight replacement for a BHPian in TAFE Mangalore. Why is SKODA not appending this major fault in their service standards?

Let us talk about the recommendations and how you can check them yourself.
1. Engine coolant flushing - Is the coolant in coolant reservoir pink? Is AC blowing hot air when you are putting temperature to Hi and engine is running at 90 Deg C? If both answers are yes, then you do not need coolant flushing.

2. Conn rod replacement. Take car to a FnG and ask them to check the con rod bushings for cracks and play. There could also be metal to metal sound. If any of the symptoms are observed, you need to replace the bushings.

3. Engine mounts - This one is a bit tricky. The mounts could be worn but not totally gone. Typical symptoms included vibration and noise inside the cabin when the engine is running. Sudden jerks or clank sounds point to transmission mount, dog bone mount and subframe mounts. You can yourself inspect the engine mount for cracks because it is easily visible. If you do not feel vibrations, do not go for engine mount replacement.

4. Worn out disk brake and pads - Run your finger along the face of the disks. Do you feel a big lip right at the edge of the disk? if Yes, then disks require skimming or replacement if the lip is too big. Pads, any good FnG will tell you if they require replacement or not.

Re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

After 7 years and 3 months of fantastic memories & mostly trouble free ownership, parted the way with my Octy 1.8Tsi AT at 77930km, last week. For the first time, I was sad to give away a vehicle. The adrenaline rush the Tsi gave, the rear leg space and comfort that it gave, the independent suspension, huge boot space, hell lot of automatic functions ( which even some luxury friends doesn't have!) , smart small storage spaces, the luggage hooks and nets - 7 years back, i couldn't have taken any vehicle which was better for value to money than the octy!
For me, Tafe service was excellent - I had 3 advisors for the last 7 years and all of them were very helpful and super supportive! Never had the famous " service" issue of Skoda to me - apart from once - when the AC compressor had to be replaced which took a week - but that was ok.

Re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Hello BHPians,
My 3rd gen Skoda Octavia is in to 7th year now. Yesterday out of the blue saw an error on the driver dashboard display "Error:Airbag". There is no collision or any sort of hit, but suddenly popped up. In the vehicle status , there are no entries but only in the display I see this.
Has anyone else encountered this?
Could this be one of the sensors going bad?

Any suggestions?

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/india...2-onwards.html (Skoda issues recall for defective airbags for cars from 2012 onwards)

Recommend you run your VIN through the Takata airbag recall campaign.

Re: How to check Battery Health status on your Octavia

I'm sure a lot of heartache and anger could have been avoided over the years if this simple button press was known to more customers. Only VW could program a feature and not let anyone know about it. Brilliant!

Re: Review: Skoda Octavia (3rd-gen)

Hi all,

My 2019 Octavia 1.8 TSI recently had routine servicing done at 35k kms. I had requested only required servicing and had rejected wheel alignment, balancing etc.

Post service, the ride quality has become noticeably stiffer. I checked air pressures and they were in range (32 psi). When I asked the service advisor, he mentioned "lubrication" work was done and that it will get settled after some time.

Has anyone else experienced this before? Not sure I buy the service advisor's explanation.
