re: Frankmehta's VW Polo GT TSI! EDIT: Sold!

Hello Frank! It has indeed been great to follow your thread on the TSI and the modifications that you are carrying about it. Had a couple of queries & comments:

1. For all the modifications to be installed in your car where in Mumbai and to whom do you go and would recommend to go who is a subject matter expert in handling VW cars?

2. For the Android ICE installed, have you also considered installing an ELM 327 mini adaptor (Bluetooth or Wifi) to the OBDII port so that it can then be linked wireless to the Android ICE as I saw it having a function of showing on board car diagnostics. Also Given that Android apps can be installed, one can install "Torque" and beam that up on the Android ICE.

I feel this grille does not go with the horizontal lines of the bumper. If you could change that, it would look very good.

re: Frankmehta's VW Polo GT TSI! EDIT: Sold!

Congratulations on your car! And awesome mods! I think the jerk you are experiencing from D3-D2 is common, as far as I can tell. I have experienced it in a Polo GT TSI I have driven and it's also present in a Vento TSI I drive. Do let me know if the Software update for the mechatronics has done the trick.

Also had a query about your anti-glare ORVMs. They seem to look like tinted mirrors in the same size as the stock ORVMs. Is that all there is to it or is there something more to it? Polarized? Auto-Chromatic?

Thanks, but I do 25 km a day on the Eastern Freeway. And I tend to feel fatigued, trying to keep her at 70 in D7 for a constant 15 minutes both ways. Just imagine how convenient it would be to have Cruise Control!!!

Auto-folding ORVMs should be very simple to deploy.
I spoke to someone in VW and they said the harness is different. Also, the BCM is connected to the mirrors so auto close and open on lock and unlock can be enabled via VCDS. I am saddened by this too!

Damn, your GT looks H-O-T.
Thanks. We generally meet near Worli Seaface, all the Polo GT TSI owners (around 8-10 of us). If you ever see or hear a swarm of GT's congregated together, it's us!

No, please don't. Pure, unadulterated petrol is best. Be sure to fill up at a genuine pump.
Yes, I fill up at Chhagan Mittha at Babulnath or New Kampala Service Station at Peddar Road. I feel they have the best fuel I can feel.

There's no one yet. I haven't needed to show anyone yet.

Apparently, the Bluetooth version of the OBD-II adaptor doesn't pair with the Android Head Unit. Which means that I need to buy the Wi-Fi version of the adaptor. I will definitely try it out and tell you. I already have the paid version of the Torque Pro app.

I agree. Totally. But I am looking to do something to the lower grill too. But I don't know what, at this point of time.

Thanks. Those Jerks have gone down.

Those mirrors are of a very high grade and have very good optical properties. I have an Electric IRVM and I dare say that the ORVM's do as good a job of keeping glare away at night. They are Polarised but not auto-chromatic. They do have a heating port, but then, we don't have the heating feature in the car itself.

Thanks. Will look to get the software upgraded at the next service. Thinking of getting the IRVM and the ORVMs . The glare is so bad sometimes.

Even I am looking for implementing the Cruise Control on my Vento TSI and would request to let us know on how to go about doing it.

Am glad to know there is a congregation of Polo GT TSI owners, and request and look forward to be part of it with the Vento TSI sibling.

Hence do you do all the modifications DIY? If so would like to learn from you for DIY. Also is there a workshop manual available for the Polo/Vento TSIs? Am trying to lay my hand on one since a long time. Thanks.

Yup, I also have he same "jerk", usually while decelerating. I have been told that there is a software upgrade for this and I have to send the car to the service center. Frustrating since VW Downtown had one week between receiving the full payment (24th July) and delivering the car (1st August) to upgrade the software. Guess they are just callous.

Mate, I have heard from my SA that you are a "legend" at VW Downtown. Guess its your ownership thread, the mods, and the hordes of followers (including yours truly) which gets you the VIP treatment. Enjoy it till it lasts (hopefully forever).

Hehe. I may be infamously famous there. They might be hating me when I would be leaving their floor. Such a fussy customer is a pain to deal with!

Yes, most mods are DIY. Such is the beauty of the VAG original mods. The Android head unit was installed by a professional. Everything else is more or less, plug and play!

re: Frankmehta's VW Polo GT TSI! EDIT: Sold!

After much deliberation from my side and due to the inconsistency of petrol pumps to deliver optimal tire air pressure, I decided to go in for a TPMS. Now, there are hundreds of brands available and many different types too.
1. Cigarette lighter charger type with a small display
2. OE Fit Display (where the indicator fits into one of the blank switch slots: Only Toyota and Honda models available)
3. Solar and Electric powered dash-mount display
4. Display-less TPMS (only audible alarms, and visual LED indication)
5. Display output to a DVD player or an Android head unit
6. Display output to an iPhone or Android device via Bluetooth.

Types of Sensors:
1. External with replaceable battery (easy to install, easy to have stolen too)
2. Internal with non-replaceable (but long-life) batteries (need to get it installed at the tire station, but then again, almost impossible to steal)

After mulling over these TPMS units for months, (maybe more than a year) I decided to pull the plug. Now I didn't really want to skimp on the unit, nor the sensors, but I also didn't want to add to the clutter of my dashboard. I don't like auxiliary things crowding the dash or being stuck to it with double-sticking tape (this comes off in Indian heat, even the 3M kind) nor did I want my cigarette lighter slot (I use it attach my Samsung Travel Charger) to be occupied, and I sure as hell didnt want to add an adaptor that accommodates two devices on one slot, hence pulling more power than needed. Also, my head unit comes with auxiliary video support (in fact, even the Brio has a Sony XAV-712BT which has Auxiliary video, as well as a dedicated button to switch to the same) and I thought, the coolest and best solution for me would be the one that comes with an ECU that outputs video onto my touchscreen infotainment unit directly. I didn't want to go in for external sensors for sure, because they are basically like valve caps and both my brand new cars are missing a valve cap each, already. (Pathetic!)

So after this long rant, I present to you, the Steelmate TP-05 In-Dash DVD TPMS with Wireless Internal Sensor Tire Pressure Monitoring System

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Steel...030804359.html

With this, I will be able to monitor car tire pressure in real time, from the cockpit itself. The pressure values will be displayed on my head unit and I am very happy that this is the case, and I don't need to add any more stuff to the already busy dashboard.

I've chosen the best brand possible, and I don't think I will need to bother much about this purchase after installing it, and it should outlast the life of the car, considering the premium cost I am paying for it.

Key Features:
Match with professional internal sensors
Video output to in-dash A/V Monitor/GPS navigation(PND)
Compatible with backup camera
One-press remote button to change to TPMS interface
Adjustable monitoring pressure range and temperature value
Convertible pressure and temperature unit

Some photos from the description itself.

Haven't gotten to writing it, but let me sum it up for you.

The Android unit has changed the face of in-car entertainment. Period.

Plays EVERY format, be it video or audio. Has decent audio quality (not for the audiophile, though, due to the lack of crossover settings)

Internet Radio: The next best thing to happen to man since the wheel. There is NO need to carry music with you! Just make your phone a wireless hotspot, activate the wifi in your head unit, and log in once. You are connected to the wifi every time you enter the car! OUTSTANDING! Even though quality of streaming music has a few strides to make, in comparison to high quality stored audio, it still does the job. It's available on demand and almost every song you want to listen to, is available. For everything else, there's YouTube. Yes, even YouTube works flawlessly!

Navigation is top-notch, and is as good as the app you choose. The NAVI button on the head unit is configurable, hence you can choose to open Google Maps, HERE maps or Sygic or MapMyIndia or whatever bakes your cake. The beauty of HERE maps is offline maps and is very nifty when you have poor network coverage or slow internet when you are on the move and need the maps the most.

Nice, BIG screen with capacitive touch (the same touch technology found in today's mobile phones) means very good touch response and above average sunlight visibility. Also, a 1024*600 resolution is unheard of, in branded aftermarket head units.

The unit has a storage space of 16 GB, has 3 USB slots and 2 SD card slots. USB hard drives are supported.

The interface is slick, and if you are used to an Android phone or tablet, you will feel at home.

The CANBUS integration is top-notch, and the head unit shows you which door is open (including the boot and the bonnet) Even the instrument cluster doesn't manage to show this information.
Battery charge status, car RPM, odd reading and amount of fuel left in the tank are all the other features that are in built into this big boy.

The reversing camera deploys automatically, when the car is put into reverse gear and the quality from the DHC camera installed by me is top-notch. VERY useful.

The head unit DIMS THE MUSIC while reversing and there is an option to either dim the music to a particular level (6 levels to select from) or switch it off, or not dim it at all. This is a feature not present in the current head unit. It's very nifty and helps you hear the muffled reversing sensors.

Video quality is top-notch and it plays EVERY format under the sun. Again, remember, it's Android. There's an APP for everything!

Negatives:
1. Poor sound customisation options.
2. Bluetooth mic quality not 100%
3. Confusing to install, if you don't look at the labels on the myriad wires.
4. Lots of clutter behind the head unit, including a plastic (read: Rattles) CANBUS box
5. I had to reset it once, when it came back from the A.S.S. I am sure the people at the workshop had a good time playing with the settings.
6. Caller name shows on the head unit only if you sync contacts onto the head unit (which is going to happen if you input your Google account)
7. Bluetooth music interface is not very cool.
8. Lollipop update future not very sure.

Have taken some screenshots in the head unit and need to transfer to the USB drive. Will do it and post here this week...

...

Thanks for the update.

Your passion, time and energy to upgrade, makes life simple for mortals like me.

Please elaborate more about the reverse camera, cost and link of the website.

You did mention something about the exhaust system, anything happening there?

It's a pleasure to post updates here.

Reversing camera is a license-plate HD type of camera from a brand called dhc.

I didn't buy it online. My installation team procured and installed it.

The exhaust is a distant reality. I don't have the resources nor the time to sit and pore over a professional exhaust. I got an Automech exhaust for my Honda, but I don't want a custom-made exhaust for the Polo. I would prefer a specially engineered exhaust for the 1.2 TSI, which would mean procuring it from outside india.

Also, I need to mention how my 'fake' chrome aftermarket headlight switch malfunctioned within a month of installation. The rear fog lamp kept coming on, on it's own.
The cost of the switch was just 900 rupees, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth, and hence forth, I have decided to buy only OE VW products. I did this to save a few hundreds, and now I will have to spend that money again, or just use my stock headlight switch.

A Video:

Another update. I don't know if I mentioned it here, but I have bitten the bullet and ordered the Cruise Control Stalk and retrofitting kit. I don't know if it's going to work, but if it does, it will be very nifty and fulfilling. I doubt it is as easy as I think it is, and if Gannu_1 says we need to pull wires to ECU and stuff, I will get freaked out.

Frankmehta's VW Polo GT TSI! EDIT: Sold!-screen-shot-20151005-16.12.05.png

I will install it this week, if I get it within the expected time.

I have been spotting a very high no. of GT TSI's on the road these days, and I think that's a very good sign. Indians buying 10 lakh rupee hatchbacks is ALWAYS a good sign.

Anyway, those were the updates from my side. I have done 3000 km on the car, and I have driven her very sparingly, since I thought I can use the Honda more, owing to it's workhorsely nature. But every single time I slink into the seat behind the exquisite GTI steering wheel and the majestic engine purrs to life, I just can't help admiring how beautifully this vehicle has been engineered and what a lovely decision it was, to choose her over the Jazz.

It may be useless on manual transmission cars, but I find it very useful on my Rapid DSG.

I drove from Lonavala to Pune till expressway exit on cruise control. I set the cruise control at 120kmph. Of-course you have to brake and the CC will be disengaged. But with DSG , as soon as you press the resume button, DSG works it magic and attains the set speed in no time. It is ultra comfortable.

Frank, I too am keenly following your installation of the cruise control stalk and await your installation and running experience. However am surprised that the image you have shown is of the older stalk where the trip meter functions are on the right stalk. While your GT TSI is the newer variant where all controls are on the steering wheel.

From the post of Ventoman and his TSI, "the part number is 6R0953521B for newer Polo/Vento as the MFD display buttons are now integrated to steering wheel."

Any specific reason for going with the older version? Also can you share the link for it?

Further wanted to check if the vcds cable you purchases is working fine and would you recommend us to pick that one up?

Also awaiting the photographs of your Android HU eagerly!
