Got alignment done as car covered 25K. Got it done at Tire Empire. The car was going a bit left after steering replacement and recent drive. Topped up AdBlue, took almost 5L. Had a 5L can at home which I bought from Toyota dealer at Puttur.

JK Treel sensors which I added quite sometime back are performing well. Considering to add these to my Innova and Swift too. The app has been updated which doesnot display in Android Auto but JK provides an APK which enables app to be displayed with Android Auto.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT | Ownership Review

Gandikota/Belum caves was on my to do list from long , was able to make a two day trip over the weekend. Took Bangalore-Anantpur-Belum route , which was fantastic. Returned via Jammalamadugu-Kadiri-Puttaparti , roads were ok, 2 lane, patchy here and there. Gmaps took us to a dead end and had to trace back about 10-15KM.

Belum caves is a nice place and takes about an hour to complete. It's about 3KM walk and a nice experience. Can get suffocating, and a small stretch was slippery. Gandikota offers fantastic view however govt. could have offered better facilities. Especially walk to the view point inside fort, cleanliness could have been improved. Probably only fort where you can drive inside without paying and any checking.

Found this nice overflowing lake enroute.

We did cross the road too.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT | Ownership Review

Hi Pridered - Need help! My Toyota Fortuner did about 10500 Kms and went for second service at Nandi Toyota, Bangalore. I filled the tank full IOC Xtra Green next day. Just after the lid was closed, the warning came up saying “Check Fuel Filter” I got worried and straight drove to SSA. They clean up the fuel filter and I drove back. In next 10 Kms warning came to again. Went again to them next day and cleaned the filter all over again. Then the warning disappeared and did about 150 Kms. So far all good. Any experience similar? If yes- what was the issue. Should I drain the full diesel out and start filling Shell diesel or something?

From my experience with XG, nothing like this happened.
However, attendant at one of OICL pumps suggested that XG is very low on tank and I better fill regular and I listened to him.

This makes me assume that low fuel in the storage tank may cause issues due to debris and water in fuel.

Did not face this issue in my car. Issue must be specific to the fuel station . When possible, stick to fuel station which you had good experience . By any chance did you hit low fuel warning in car before refill?

Weekend went for a drive to Nilgiris. Been a while since we experienced cold weather and Nilgiris perfectly fits the weekend plan. Took usual Mysore road, which is a total mess. Lack of road signs, poor road manners, traffic, diversions, you just have to keep looking for a surprise.
As the norm now, took Kalhatty road for ascent and Gudalur for descent. Latter is longer , has few bad patches(problem for low sling sedan) and too much traffic. Was a good decision to take Fortuner.

Did not venture out much while in Ooty, instead did try some estate roads and spent time enjoying weather and tea gardens. Thanks to 4x4 capabilities, I would not have dared to take the road otherwise. Bandipur was good and we spotted wild elephants , deer , wild boar, some peacocks and types of monkeys. While Fortuner is no corner craver, the muscle power of 2.8 makes for an enjoyable climb. The motor just pulls and pulls! Regen happened like clockwork for every 150-200KM and at about 250Km while on plains. Overall FE was about 11.5KMPL. ODO now stands close to 27K.

Mandatory Nilgiri shots

After 2 months did some detailing. Close to 2 years and 27K on ODO, there are few scratches or rather battle scars and few dents but white color masks these really well. The paint quality of Toyota though is just average.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT | Ownership Review

I have a weird observation, or maybe I’m completely wrong. Most Toyota cars I see in Bangalore, irrespective of area, are KA-42 registered- which is Ramanagara RTO, where I believe the Toyota factory is situated. Is this just a coincidence that I’m seeing more of KA-42 ones, or there’s some logic behind it?

Most of Toyota factory cars are KA42 registration and probably there are many Toyota employees staying in Bangalore. This could be the reason for KA42 reg Toyota in Bangalore but I doubt if the number is anywhere close to Bangalore registration Toyota's.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT | Ownership Review

30K service update

Car had completed 28500KM/2 years since I purchased and thought of getting serviced bit early as I had time and busy days ahead. Also had pleasant experience at United Toyota Puttur earlier with Innova and decided to give Fortuner for service. Being Sunday, center was operating with limited staff and mine was the only car getting serviced. Other than 30K service had few other work to be done:

1. Wheel alignment/Balance. Car was pulling to left slightly.
2. Right shock absorber was making slight noise due to lack of lubrication. Have been using lot of pressure wash offlate and running is reserved mostly to weekends.
3. Minor rattle on driver door pad. Some wire was rubbing damping sheets.

Had given car at 9AM for service and was delivered at 4PM as promised. Service advisor took two test drives to ensure alignment was done well. The service center did not force any optional value added service which was nice. Despite being new and small center, technician was knowledgeable and was able to address issues.

Total cost came to 11640. Alignment/Balance charge was about 1.6K and GST another 2K. For a car costing upwards of 50L, I think charges are reasonable though not cheap. Air filter was around 2K, may be I could have avoided, but it was neither too dirty nor clean enough to continue for another 10K. Hence asked to replace.

Few other updates:

1. For last 2000KM, avg FE was around 13KMPL, majority of refill was with IOC Xtragreen.
2. Had an amazing drive with KA21 folks to Thirunelly. Location was fantastic and the drive even better.
3. Maintaining 30-32 PSi now and sometimes, especially on 4 lane highways find the ride bit soft. Ofcourse works better on bad roads.
5. Had to replace window chrome weather strip, The beading got cut accidentally while wrapping. Part costed 1K.
6. I get the Adblue refill warning at 4.5-5K mark. Car takes about 6-7L before overflowing.
7. Having full fledged service center at Puttur is a boon. Convenient, quick, slightly cheaper rates and friendly people.
8. Tires are holding quite well. Love the Bridgestone, performs well on tarmac and is adequate off-road(not exceptional). Will last easily another 20K If I look after them well.
9. Brake pads are 6mm thick and possibly will last another 10-20K KM. For a heavy Body on Frame AT, this is quite good.
10. Engine truly is a gem. Refined, torque monster, powerful, reasonably efficient, fun. Don't know if this will score high on reliability(has been so far, touchwood), only time will tell.

The car is hardly used in city, especially in Bangalore. Most of the driving is on highway, tier3 city or town. City FE is around 7-10KMPL depending on traffic.

Re: 2021 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT | Ownership Review

Back from a 1700KM road trip to AP. Had to attend a marriage and decided to drive instead of taking flight. While the 30K service was done a month back, the car completed 30K on ODO in this trip. Its a bit of a shame that despite 30K KM on ODO, most of the trips have been short one's barring few. Trip to AP by far was the longest drive I did in Fortuner in a day, which again is nothing to boast about.

2021 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT | Ownership Review-prakasam.jpg

Day 1 Bangalore- Vijayawada

We had a late start at 630AM. Usually I prefer 4AM start so we get to beat traffic and kids sleep off. Surprisingly not much traffic and we reached Tirupati in about 3hrs. Stopped for breakfast before Toll at a restaurant which appeared newly opened. Comfortable, neat washrooms and decent food.
Tirupati- Nellore road is average. Mostly 2 lane, potholes, road humps, cattle, jaywalkers and some slow moving trucks. Nellore- Vijayawada is fantastic, mostly 6 lane and very less traffic. We covered distance quite quickly despite not over speeding, reached Vijayawada by 530PM. Total travel time of 11hrs including breaks for Breakfast, Lunch, fuel and emission check.

My visit to Vijayawada was long time back and I hadn't stayed overnight. Pretty neat city and roads within city(at least main roads) are good. Weather was bearable and food options are pretty good too.

Beautiful highway, early morning drives makes it better

Day 2 Around Vijayawada

We had a marriage to attend in Eluru which is about 50KM from Vijayawada. Didn't have much to do, visited Prakasam barrage, had some nice food, walked around streets and attended marriage. Tanked up diesel at Vijayawada and realized its about Rs11-12 costlier than what I pay in KA. Tank to tank FE was 13.1KMPL against 13.2 displayed in MID.

Day 3 Eluru-Hyderabad

Our initial plan was to drive down to Bangalore but wanted to try a different route and decided to drive via Hyderabad and take a break at Hyderabad. This route is about 150-200KM more than Nellore route. We started early morning and to our surprise witnessed dense fog with almost zero visibility until Vijayawada. LED's were put to test and would rate them average. While the average halogens would not have fared any better, a good pair of Halogens or HID's i think would have done better job. Vijayawada -Hyderabad is just another boring stretch and reached Hyderabad by 11 AM.
Checked in at hotel and spent rest of the day roaming around Jubilee/Banjara hills.

Did not expect this kind of fog @Vijayawada

2021 Toyota Fortuner 4x4 AT | Ownership Review-fog.jpg

Day 4 Hyderabad-Bangalore

Woke up late, had breakfast at hotel, started at 1230 PM from Hyderabad. We stayed at Banjara hills, took PV Narasimha Rao express way and reached Bangalore highway in no time. Until Kurnool did not drive beyond 100 as I was made aware of speed cams . Had lunch at Food Pyramid and reached home at 1030PM(Had stopped at Nandi upachar for dinner). Road is 4 lane for most part and not much traffic. However you get stuck behind a lot of slow moving trucks which can get irritating.

Fortuner completed 30K milestone
