I wasn’t suggesting the product, but wanted to say that whichever product you used, its important to have a good coat on the inside. I should have been more clear.

Usually a special atomising nozzle fixed at the end of a long and thin tube is used for this purpose of spraying. Something difficult to achieve with a regular hand held spray gun (paint gun).

Hammertone is also a good product more or less hardens up and avoids catching dust and debris.

Update:

I had my permanent registration in the Islands done and the number plates installed. The plates are ordered from here, but there is no authorised HSRP vendor here. So it has to be tied up with some firm in Goa and then the plates are punched and installed here.

Local Force A.G Motors again helped me and I got this done while the truck was getting the underbody work done at the workshop.

I got my dad's Ambassador's number for Django. 35 years apart, my son sits on a bonnet where I once sat.

Vignesh-ji, I have marked a certain portion in the attached photo of section of your car, did you measure this? Whether it is less than 235 mm or almost equal or more?

The middle portion of my truck ( under my modified bash plate is 235 mm+)

As we move closer to the wheel, the control lower arms are about 205 mm and lower at the bend of the arm)

See the few pictures above few posts earlier for the measurements at both these places.

Hope it helps!

Hello vigneshkumar31,

Out of the topic question here. How is the internet service in A&N right now? I was posted in Nicobar when I was in service and the broadband scene there back then was next to nonexistent.

You must remember how horrible it was to even book a ticket .

The CANI Chennai Andaman Nicobar Internet optical cable has finally been laid in 2020 November from mainland and I must say it has changed the islands.

We have near mainland speeds in the order of MBPS here now.

P.S: Thanks to CANI , I’m able to bring the story of this Island Gurkha and through it the islands itself to all you good people.

Damn that sounds reassuring! Do you have to pay any premium over mainland price there? Also, is latency any issue?

During my time back then(2016), there were some talks about laying a cable from Indonesia because distance is very low but that never happened due to objections from the MoD.

The price is 1:4 times. The standard 999 package in mainland costs 3799 here.

Latency and slight inconsistency in connection and drops are there but still way way better than what it was. Indonesia would be been easier as it’s very close, but Chennai cable is administratively better and either way happy that it has been executed .

Anyway here’s a picture to bring it back to topic.

Upsized Tire - Wheel Fender Modification

The bigger diameter MT tires scrape the fender a tiny bit at full turn. The inside wheel fenders are flexible and I have pulled them a bit ahead and secured them with strong cable ties and secured them to a bracket within the wheel well. Scraping solved.

FEEDBACK ON MODIFIED BASH PLATE & INCREASED GC

We went for a bit of trail driving up the hills at the outskirts of the town. The increased ground clearance is immediately felt and the underbody doesn't scrape anymore even in really rocky patches. I'm able to glide over with a little more confidence over bad patches.

Few parting sunset shots, with my spotter.

Now that is a coincidence. My dad's old Ambassador was CTX 7567. My dad found this very lucky and then all his follow on cars had the same number until we got the Maruti 800 DX in 1998.

Will need to look at some old pictures to find a pic of the Ambassador.

Thanks for providing with so much valuable information for current and future Gurkha owners.

One question on the bash plate modification. I felt that force deliberately pushed it below the front lower arm to avoid the arm getting hit first. In your modification does the entire bash plate is now sitting above the lower arm or the edges of the plate are still at same/below arm level to protect them as well?

The lower arms were at similar height in the older Gurkha also , regardless of hit or not.

I have raised the bash plate to highest point possible.

The arms are lower but don’t hit like the lower bash used to .

I’ve put up a video of the ground clearance solution.

Thanks!
