What is disappointing is that this factor weighs against the Fiesta too much in the minds of people when it is actually not that relevant a point.
Well said. On a recent trip to Pondicherry with our driver, we hit 140 effortlessly in our Fiesta 1.4 tdci. Just two of us though. I dint have a slightest idea that my driver was at 140kmph. He asked me can if I push it further, as we had a good stretch of 4 - 5 kms where we could floor the car. I said no, as we had just 2k kms on odo, and I wanted to cut loose only after 2500kms. I am sure it would have hit 160+, maybe wud have taken a little longer time. But then, how long can one stay at those speeds, a few seconds. ? Overall, I felt it can easily touch 120-140 and it feels rock solid at those speeds.

Fiesta diesel maintenance should only be marginally more than petrol as per this brochure. I got this from a Ford dealer. It is an extract from an ACI issue that came out earlier this year. But I think filters etc have to be changed more often in a diesel. City parts list might look more expensive on paper but the parts last much longer than Ford's.

I recently had an opportunity to drive both a Fiesta Diesel and a Verna Diesel on a 40 km highway trip. Drove the Fiesta while going and Verna on the return. The fact is the Verna can effortlessly outgun the Fiesta on the highway. The other fact is I felt a lot more comfortable in the Fiesta at similar speeds. Like you said, the Fiesta is rock solid whereas the Verna 'floats'.

With due respect to your inputs, don't you agree buying car is overall package, you get clean pick up till 120 - 130 kmph, minimal turbo lag, spot on in gear accleration, best handling, composed ride, which leads to zero or minimum fatigue on long drive, I agree in drag race Verna may leave Fiesta behind, but really we need that in day to day driving, even after driving 1600+ kms I feel yet I have not driven her more than 100 kms, that feeling matters.

I never said Verna is a better package overall. I did say the Fiesta was a better drive and I would opt for it any day. In fact I am getting delivery of a Fiesta tomorrow. But you have to give credit to the Verna where it's due. It's monstrous in a straight line and some people like that. The 110 bhp with VGT has to count for something.

Small but significant things about Fiesta:
  1. Every Fiesta has rear Fog Lights (including Exi)
  2. There is a little 'Glove Box' on the right side of the Fiesta (all models)
  3. Cleaning the front grill is a breeze as it comes out eaisly.
  4. The remote boot lid button wont function if the engine is start in a Fiesta.

--The recommended fuel economic speed is around 60kmph in top gear

Hello Nair Sir,

Over all it is an excellent write up , I have a question though ,

I have heard people say that for the car to deliver the maximum FE the RPM should be around 2-2.2K. In our Fiesta's when we keep the RPM in this range I am sure the speedo would be around 80 to 90 KMPH, any thoughts on this

1- Yes rear fog lamps are there (it is clearly visible)
2- Yes, thats nice small glove box, just under control of the driver (can keep some valuables - are you want to hide anything from children as it is not easy to reach there without the permission/knowledge of the preson sitting on the driver's seat.
4- May be because the key is inside i,e opposite of the boot lid and the sensor may not be coming face to face?. Anyway remote boot lid open is meant to open the lid from outside. hence it is kept on the key remote.

How does one set the trip-meter to zero in the Fiesta? In the Santro, I just need to push in the knob provided for the purpose. Tried the same in my Fiesta but it was not happening. Twirled the knob this way & that & pushed & suddenly it happened. So what is the correct way?
Thanks in advance.

@nura

Keep pressing the knob for few seconds - you will see the trip meter comes to '0'
Try it now?

Some Tips/ Warnings !

Some Tips and Warnings as illustrated in the Owners Manual:

As said these points are already in the manual, but still would like to recap it here for quick reference (instead refering various pages):

What all not covered in the FORD Warranty:

1 - Any claim where the mechanical failure has been caused by abuse/
misuse of the vehicle or the use of NON-GENUINE FORD PARTS.

2- Any claim arising from the mechanical failure of a covered component
which has, prior to the mechanical failure, been repaired by any
person other than an authorised FORD dealer.

3- Any claim attributable to failure to follow the vehicle manufacturers
operating guidelines or mechanical failure attributable to exceeding
the manufacturers operating limitations.

4- Defect or replacement in any way due to the fittings of parts not
made or approved by FORD.

5- Defects caused by body modification not approved by FORD, any
special body construction made by a third party manufacturer
and not by FORD.

6- Any Vehicle which has been serviced, assembled, disassembled, adjusted
or repaired other than FORD Dealers.

The Warranty will cease to operate and no claim will be accepted where
the vehicle :

1- Has not been operated in accordance with the operating instructions
in owners Handbook or is being used for a purpose for which it was
not designed

2- Has been modified from the manufacturers original specifications

3- Has not been serviced using genuine FORD parts.
When you present the vehicle for service, please handover the manual
to the service person. Once the service is complete, please ensure
that the 'Service History Log' in the rear of the manual have been
completed and stamped. This information will be needed in the event
of a claim. If one do not comply with these servicing requirements,
Ford reserves the right to refuse a claim or cancel this warranty.

Some Warnings:

1- Use only approved wheel and tyre sizes. using other sizes could
damage the vehicle and will make the National Type Approval Invalid.

If you change the diameter of the tyres from that fitted at the
factory, the speedometer may not display the correct speed. Take
the vehicle to your dealer to have the engine management system
programmed.

make sure that the arrows on directional tyres point in the direction
of rotation when the vehicle is moving forward. If you have to fit
a spare wheel with the arrows pointing in the opposite direction,
have the tyre refitted in the correct direction by a properly trained
technician.

2- Do not install alloy wheels using wheel nuts designed for use with
steel wheels.

3- The ABS does not relieve you of your responsibility to drive with due
care and attention. The ABS helps you to maintain full steering and
directional stability when you brake heavily in an emergency, by
preventing the road wheels from locking.

4- Engage Reverse Gear only when the vehicle is stationary
Do not apply any undue lateral force to the gear lever when changing
from 5th to 4th gear as this could lead to the inadvertent selection of
2nd gear. To void shifting noises when engaging the reverse gear
wait approximately three seconds with the clutch depressed when the
vehicle is stationary.
To select the reverse gear, shift the lever into the neutral position
and then press the lever fully to the right against a spring pressure,
before pulling rearwards.
Avoid abrupt gear changes. Always press the clutch pedal completely
before shifting the gear.

5- It is important to avoid parking, idling or operating the vehicle on dry
leaves or dry grass. Even when the engine is switchedoff, the exhaust
will continue to radiate a considerable amount of heat for a short
period creating a potential fire hazard.

Thanks

Does this mean that warranty won't be void if we use alloys and upsize tyres?? They've given it just as a warning, right. Loop-hole, maybe.
