Re: Another 1.6 Polo

hey ekatz, did u get yourself the Witson as well? I am in touch with the Witson Guys and they have quoted 460 USD for the unit inclusive of shipping, igo maps for india installed and the reverse camera. Will be paying for it soon and hope to have a similar setup as Ankits. The amp and the sub will have to wait, as the car itself has blown a hole in my pocket.

Re: Another 1.6 Polo

How much difference is sound quality is provided by 'just' the head unit? I mean, why not go for the head unit (Caska/Motevo/Witson)for the look, feel and features that it provides. BTW, to me, they look the same (I am sure they are same , quality wise), so why not go for the cheapest one? Is Caska any better than the ones already on the forum (Motevo/Witson?)

For everything else, go standard and buy 'quality' stuff (read JBL, Pioneer, Polk etc.).

Advice seeked: Just in case I go for Vento, I will get the HU replaced right out of showroom. I already have the following (In Swift, which will get ported over to Vento):

1. 4 JBL Speakers. Two front doors+ Two rear co-axial.
2. Alpine Amp.
3. Blaupunkt Base Tube.
4. Pioneer Speakers.

So, I just need the HU. One one my additional motives is to make my car (if I buy one) look more upmarket. This will be accompanied by Stanley leather to complete the look.

Its fair to say that the sound now is miles better than the stock speaker setup. So to cut the story short, for a good sound setup invest in speakers and amp(okay if you are really those audiophile types then trust me u wont be buying any double din touchscreen HU either!!).
Ankit, saw your post in another thread regarding placement for the sub. Can you post pictures of your ICE installation?

Not yet decided on the Witson. But do share your experience of ordering, installation etc. What speakers are you getting?

Hey I went ahead and followed Ankits footsteps. I just booked the Witson W2D 723 V. Couldnt bear the pain of the wait anymore.Everyone seemed to be shying away from witson cuz of varied reasons. But I was sold on it completely.
So any way, was in touch with them via email and they were courteous enough to answer all my queries so far.
I paid up the amount USD 466.40 inclusive of DHL shipping charges on Friday and they replied, that they had received the money and would be shipping the parcel out the same day. After that there has been no communication from them. But i just checked the local holidays in CHINA and to my bad luck 4th , 5th and 6th of JUNE are public holidays for some dragon boat festival. Hoping to hear from them tomorrow.
So here is the split up

Unit 405 USD (inclusive of DHL shipping)
SD cardwith IGO maps- 10 USD
Reverse camera w2c-321 V 25 USD
and add 6% paypal charges

So it totalled to 466.40 USD. Well they were not ready to shave off even 40 centsfrom it. I tried

Re: Another 1.6 Polo

I have completed 6000 km and the car is running absolutely fine. Theres a very minute squeaking noise coming from the steering wheel every time when i turn the wheel. Other than that no rattles and no other problems whatsoever! I am getting an average of about 12kmpl (city mainly).

Last week i sent my car for the free summer camp, about which i came to know from teambhp members. I called the VW workshop and was told that the invite had been posted. I got the invite and booked a morning slot at 9:30, reached there around 9:45 and left my car. The experience was satisfactory, i was attended instantly and i was promised the car would be ready by 2pm. There wasn't much rush but the place was filled with ventos and polos. I got my car at the promised time. I guess being a free summer camp it wasn't a thorough service and not much would have been done to the car.

About a month back i got my first scratch on the car but the sad part was i wasn't even driving it, infact no one was and it was parked in the company parking lot!
So i come back in the evening after a hard days work at the office, enter the car park and see a santro kissing my parked car. Neither the guards nor the car park attendant is bothered! Disgusting is all I would say, anyways i guess we don't live in an ideal world, still it wasn't a good sight.

I would let the pictures do the talking! Also attaching images of my ICE setup as requested by some members.

I know the first scratch feels like a scratch against your heart - but these things are bound to happen - especially in India. So take a deep breath and get over it.

the ICE setup looks nice !

Re: Another 1.6 Polo

That's a really nice ice setup out there. Your sub has taken half the space of the boot, guess you are okay with it. And I mileage of 12 on a 1"6 is really nice ! I m sure you ae loving your car

The pune volkswagen dealer is offering a passat HU for 42k. Does anyone about it?

Is it the caska HU or the original 65k price dropped to 42k?

The steering squeak can be easily fixed by a bit of lubrication. I had the same problem and it is fixed now. The workshop guys took the covers off the steering column and sprayed lubricant inside. The squeak got reduced immediately and vanished after a day or two (it took a while for the lubricant to reach the affected spot).

Re: Another 1.6 Polo

Hi Ankit, your ICE setup looks gorgeous! I want tweeters like that! Can you PM me what your front setup is? I like the rear speakers for now, but will probably put components up front.

Also your Witson looks wonderful- absolutely OE! What's with the scratches on the touchscreen though?

That Santro guy is a moron- I sincerely hope you gave him a piece of mind. What was he thinking?

Thats pretty decent mileage for a 1.6 for in-city driving.

I know it's really heart-breaking when such things happen (for no fault of your own) to your 'pride & joy'. Hope the vw service center guys can touch it up.

Thanks for the pictures. I was also interested to know how you had placed your door speakers. Did they fit into the original enclosures or were there any modifications required? Looks like you have finally placed the sub facing the rear door instead of sideways as you had planned earlier. Did you find a major difference between the two positions? I am assuming that the sub can be unplugged and removed in case you need to use the spare tyre.

I am not sure but i once inquired about the passat HU and the sp told me that one of the early polo customers did try to get it installed but it never worked properly maybe because passat has CANBUS interface while polo does not.In any case he did end up wasting 65K!!

The front components are Rainbow SLX 265 Deluxe edition. Also i am not using the rear speakers at all as they are interfering with the sound-stage and the subwoofer

The scratches are only on the screen protector which i haven't removed yet. I am unable to find another screen protector of this size

That Santro guy is a moron- I sincerely hope you gave him a piece of mind. What was he thinking?
Well, it wasnt much of his fault. All cars are parked parallel to mine and the ones who come late just shove it in front of us. Most probably the guy parked right next to mine must have had the santro parked in front of him. So in order to get out he ruthlessly pushed the santro sideways into my car that too infront of the guards and the parking attendent. Still no one bothered to catch that guy or even call me up and let me know. As i said we do not live in an ideal world!

The 6.5 components fit easily in the front door. Only a small wooden spacer ring was added on the frame of the door inside. I haven't yet tested the sub placed sideways. Yes the sub can be disconnected and removed whenever required.

Re: Another 1.6 Polo

Dear Ankit

I believe Witson has launched a new HU for Polo, D9235 and it costs around USD 330, ex China. Seems to be having very robust specs.

VOLKSWAGEN SERIES CAR(New Arrival)----ZHUHAI WITSON INDUSTRIAL CO.,LTD.---Professional Car DVD Player Manufacturer

I am planning to get it from a friend who is visiting China. But do not know if we still have to pay customs duty if bought as a personal gadget. Please let me know your views.

Saw your bumper scratch pictures. Quite sad. May be a small paint touch up would do?

Re: Another 1.6 Polo

Its been one year already!
Got my car serviced at around 8000km/1 year. The VW gurgaon service was just about good. Gave them a call and got the appointment booked for 6th sep. Reached there in the morning , didn't had to wait long and gave the car for service with some instructions.
The car was ready by evening, and everything felt ok with the car.
I managed to get the auto-lock (and other listed features on t-bhp) activated as well. The service cost was quite high though at 8600/-. I did opt for wheel balancing/tyre rotation. The bill didn't include interior dry cleaning but the car looked neat and clean from inside especially the seats so maybe they did do the cleaning.
I took some of the price lists on t-bhp for comparison, and definitely the spares/filters cost is way cheaper in Pune as compared to Delhi. On the other hand, the VW guys did quote me a price around 8500/- even at the time of booking the appointment, so i guess they weren't ripping me off. Will post the detail bill in the appropriate thread.

Vehicle feels great, with no problems whatsoever. Its been a very satisfying one year trouble-free ownership!

Congrats! So what are you treating your boy on his first birthday
Btw service cost is OK if they have changed full oil. In Avons Polo in Pune they just topped the oil , he completed some 7k mileage in 1 year. Not sure which one is better as a price is attached to both
