Civved : Wayanad

Dear Laluks!

It has been a long standing dream of mine to be part of this Team-BHP for the simple reason that I wanted to be known as a person associated with great names Laluks, Samurai, GTO, HVKumar, Ampere and other great BHP-ians in here. And in the process also contribute whatever little I could do.

I have been regularly reading (rather studying) most your threads including the old ones and I would like to congratulate you on your travelogue skills (I am afraid whether I can use the words "story telling skills" lest it is misunderstood).

All your photographs have been of great standard. The one with frog sitting (or standing?) next to the big leaf gives an impression as though it were an Octopus! And this guy S Prithviraj looks like Laluks without spectacles! Eagerly waiting in Chennai for this movie Celluloid (J C Daniel in Tamil?).

You might have answered the query am going to ask, but none the less let me ask - Anniversary dinner at the cave - where is this place please ?, i quite like the pics and might want to pop there for a meal next time we around Wayanad.

That dinner was at Edakkal Hermitage.

Let me repeat what I have written about the same for you

The dinner spread was nothing to brag about being a Mallu. The spread had three veg curries and two non veg dishes along with white rice and chapatis. The menu was fixed. It was just a fancy idea, that was all about it. The smoke of the candles was an irritant sometime since me and Jr. PPG are prone to wheasing.

The cost for an overnight stay with candle light dinner for a family of four ranges to 7K, and if you ask me if it was worth the deal - I would really say NO. The dinner alone is at RS 500/- per head. It was just not value for money, not even the fancy experience. At 7K many other options, indeed better ones do exist.

Since your idea is to just get there for a dinner, it'd be a good idea to book before hand, as they normally give preference to their guests, and some time slots might apply. Definitely not a good affair for a dinner like that. It reminds you of waiting for a seat at some crowded restaurants.

If you'd ask me an opinion - Not worth the trouble!

That was a nice travelogue.
I have been enjoying your photologues from outside as a guest user all these time. Then there were times of desperation, my hands were itching to write a word or two in appreciation. But I was helpless. Anyway, that issue has been solved now!

I enjoy your presentation. You convey your messages through images more than words. That makes your travelogue different from others. More than anything, I appreciate the "dedication" you guys put in to bring out these magnificent threads in the forum. Sure you must be spending more time with the camera than with the family while on a vacation

Now I am happy that I could converse with you guys.

Checked out early by 06:30AM and drove towards Kuruva Island. Last trip Kuruva Island was full of tourists that we could not really see what it had to offer. So we decided to take a try this time.

It was a foggy day

We found a board

A Jain temple was nearby

Decided to check it out

By 09:00AM we reached the second entry of Kuruva Island.

Parked Civvy

We went towards the ticket counter

We were on time, since last time we reached late and the crowd was huge

You are warned not to cross Kabini by foot

It really looked like it was possible to cross by feet then

But we followed the instructions

The place where we will get the ferry to cross

Ticket costs

The place was empty, it was just us

But as any government office would function, the sarkari babus say madam has not come, ticket will be only issued after 10:30AM

So we enjoyed Kabini for a while

There was a temple nearby

Some information

We looked around the shops

We went to a nearby tea shop and had tea and banana fritters and whiled away some more time

By 10:30AM we reached the ticket counter and got our tickets. The Sarkari Madam was looking cool, and dressed well. looked like a powerful madam

It says -Let us look after our state like our own home, and let us keep all the tourist places clean

The other entry already had started by 09:00AM itself resulting a bit of crowd at the island

We found an interesting tree

The crowd started crossing over to the other side

These fellows were very noisy and uncivilized!

The crowd noise and movements disturbed this fellow

It always feels nice to catch up with some reading

We waited for the ferry

There were bus loads of tourists by now

It was 12:30 already and we went to the same tea shop for a simple but tasty lunch.
