Yet another fantastic travelogue. "Civved" series have been my inspiration to travel for quite some time.
I have spent quite a few years playing cricket next to Thalassery fort but looking at Muzhappilangad beach, thalassery and Mahe through your lens seems totally different.

Hi Laluks

Greatly appreciate the amount of patience and work you have done in penning this travelogue in so much detail.

I had trekked the Chembra peak a long time back; say around 2001-2002 and had been to the water body thats now called Hrudaya Saras. Is this a name that has come out recently because I dont remember it being called by this name at that time? Also, do you know if its possible to swim there etc,. because, at the time when I trekked, it was boiling hot weather and I was tempted to swim but not sure of the depth and quality of the water, so I didnt dare enter the water.

Did the info office have any info about Hrudaya Saras?

The naming I think is a recent development to sell (rather over sell) Wayanad as a destination.

The guide with me told me that it would be slimy with mosses (payal in mallu). It was indeed, and when we wet our legs it formed a layer and came out like a web. May not be ideal for swimming, looked stale. Depth wise he told me it is deep.

Trip 02

This year (2013) we completed 15 years of matrimony, and wanted to have something fancy to celebrate the day. But the actual Anniversary dates had exams for the PPGs, and we decided to prepone it rather than postpone the occasion.

While we were at HVK meet in Wayanad in December 2012, a sales guy from a resort approached me and gave me a postcard about a dinner in a cave near Edakkal Caves. The card claimed that it was recommended by Lonely Planet Magazine of December 2012 to be one of the 25 most romantic ideas world wide. Ok, so be it, lets get back to Wayanad again for this romantic fancy idea for the occasion.

Called up the sales guy and got it all booked up with a candle light dinner and an over night stay at the resort.

So the anniversary drive to Wayanad was planned and executed

Day 01
22nd February 2013
Bangalore - GaganChukki - Wayanad

We started our drive early by 05:00AM. Instead of the regular Mysore route, we decided to take Kanakapura, Kollegal, ChamrajNagar, Muthanga route to Wayanad.

By 07:30AM we were near Shivanasamudra falls and took a deviation to check the place and to take a breakfast break before continuing, though we knew the falls would be a trickle!

We reached Gagana Chukki Falls by 07:30AM

The place was empty as expected

The falls was all but a trickle

We turned back

It was nice to get the place all for us for a break!

22nd February 2013
Bangalore - GaganChukki - Wayanad

This fellow seemed to be very inquisitive with Jr. PPG

This puppy was very cute and friendly

Sr. PPG was getting some attention

The big mama was relaxed

The swans made a lot of noise to gain our attention

They belonged to a resort owned by Karnataka Government, we went there for breakfast

While breakfast was getting prepared PPGs decided to have some fun at the park

The puppies too joined them

Not a bad place at all. Though they were surprised to find us that early on a non season, they made us some breakfast and tea

There is an ice cream parlour there as well

After an hour of break, breakfast and rest we decided to start the drive by 08:30AM from there.

We stopped by a big banyan tree

We checked out the hanging vines

Sivanasamudram Post Office

By 09:00AM we exited the place and was back in the main road

The tourism boards attracted us

The Talakkad board made us do a customary loop inside Talakkad too

Civvy ready for a drive back to Talakkad

Bangalore - GaganChukki - Wayanad

We drove towards Doddamakkali

We reached the gate of JLR resort at Dodammakali

The resort is now closed for some time.

Some views of the canals

We were near Shimsha Hydroelectric project

The roads were narrow and patchy but straight

We took a deviation to Talakkadu by 10:00AM

We took a loop inside the area and continued with our drive towards Wayanadu.

We reached Sultan Battery by 13:00 hours and had lunch at a restaurant which served some beautiful meals with fish curry.

By 14:30 hours we reached the Edakkal Hermitage resort we booked.

We docked our Civvy safely at the parking lot

We were quickly allotted the cottage

We were told this was the biggest cottage they had

The surroundings were nice

Wifey was quite happy sitting at the verandah

The other cottages

That is the cave for the candle light dinner

There was some space for activities

The breakfast location

I returned back to the gate, the road takes us to Edakkal Caves

I found wifey and Jr. PPG at the verandah
