Just had a chat with North Wayanad DFO's office. Pakshipathalam area is declared as restricted and no more permissions to Pakshipathalam treks are granted.

Its been quite a while since I wrote a new or updated a travelogue. Been busy with many of my other passions, predominantly farming. It took a while, and currently seems to have settled down, giving me some moments to pursue my travelogues. So let me start catching up with my travels!

I had a chance to visit Wayanad again. This time I was with my team, who just finished a hectic project and wanted to take a break. They wanted to visit Kerala, and the easiest and nearest option was Wayanad. A few phone calls to Sam Uncle, my friend from the Chardham trip, we got his farm house booked for our stay. The farm house can easily accommodate 10 to 12 guys, and that was what we wanted.

So the dates were decided to be 17, 18, and 19th of January 2014. Civvy and an i10 were the steeds for this drive.

Day 01 : 17.01.2014

One of the colleagues came home at 05:45AM, and we started the journey by 06:00 from home. Our mandate was to be at Kanakapura exit of NICE road by 07:00AM for the i10 to catch up.

Bangalore was a pleasant 19 degrees in the morning

Civvy set for the drive, over a lakh happy miles together, now for the next one

On the way I picked up another colleague. We reached Kanakapura Exit by 07:00AM after some spirited drive on the empty NICE road!

This note got my attention

Soon the i10 catches up, a group pic

We drove through the empty roads to reach the Talakkadu deviation by 08:15AM

Day 01 : 17.01.2014

We reached Talakkad by 09:00AM.

Who's this guy?

I decided to take a walk around the temples, while the other guys visited the temple. Surpirisngly the entire area is filled with sand. The interesting history is documented here

I found this temple first in my stroll

The next temple is 400m away

There's a covered walk way to the temple

There were some renovation going on

I reached the next temple

Day 01 : 17.01.2014

BY 11:00 we started towards Somanathpur. It was around 30KMs to Somanathpur.

We reached Somanathpur by 11:30AM

The bullocks had designs on their body

Sat for a while under this tree, waiting for the team to regroup

By 12:00 noon we started our drive towards Wayanad.

Day 01 : 17.01.2014

By 14:00 hours we reached Wayanad and drove straight to Edakkal Caves. Left the team to explore the caves and I went to Agricultural research Station to get a few saplings for my garden. The counter was to close by 16:00 hours, so I rushed the plant selection and finished payment by 16:00. I also collected the grow bags from here for my terrace garden.

I got a call informing me that the team had finished visiting the caves and would be back at the base in another 30 minutes. By this time Sam Uncle also came top the Research Station. We spoke for a moment and I drove back to the caves to meet the team by 16:30.

With the team I met Sam uncle again, and purchased some items for dinner that night. We then drove to the farm house and reached the farm house by 18:30 hours.

It was time for some music and dance!

I decided to stay in the tent next to Civvy

By 23:00 hours we decided to call it a day

Wayanad was 20 degrees, warmer than Bangalore. We were 360KMs away from home

Day 02 : 18.01.2014

It was quite a bad idea to have tried to sleep in the tent. The dew started condensing and the tent was wet,so I abandoned the idea and occupied a bed inside the house. After a nice sleep we all woke up around 06:30AM.

It was indeed cold

We had a passionate ornithologist amongst us

Day 02 : 18.01.2014

After Chai break, we went in search of birds

We found touch me not

I was told this birdie is a native of Wayanad

No birdies, guys started back

We retraced our steps back to the farm house

The other side was tea estate

Day 02 : 18.01.2014

By 10:30AM we decided to explore a bit of Wayanad

Driving out of the farmhouse was tricky

It was close

Phew! Finally made it

i10 joins

Going down was fun too!

We stopped for a full Kerala meals at a decent hotel and drove towards Kuruva Island

It was already 13:30hours

After getting the entry tickets we waited for the bamboo raft to get to the island
