Definitely yes, the ride quality will be compromised on 16". Also please note that advans and s-drives have soft side wall and are prone to buldging. Please consider the state of inner roads of gurgaon, the tires cannot take such abuse. You will have to be very careful and slow; simply cannot afford hitting a pothole at over 40-50. However, they are excellent performers, you really wont like any sub standard tire once you use these.

re: Honda Civic : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi, at the risk of I have a question for all gurus. I have 205/55 R16 tires on my Civic as of now, but on Bangalore roads i seem to be scrapping the car at least once a day. Is there anyways I can increase the ground clearance with a different tire size on the 16" rims?

It is not advisable to reduce the tyre dia on a civic while upsizing. You just did that which reduced the ride height by 1.2mm You will need 205/60 R16 tyres, which I think is OEM size on Cruze and top end SX4. This however increases the ride height by about 9mm. Btw, I have 205/65 R15 on my civic which increased my ride height by about 7mm.

Thanks vasoo. Would the 205/60 R16 size tyres scrap against the wheel well, especially during large movements of schoers, like while negotiating deep craters we have on Bangalore roads .

Also, can you suggest some good and decent priced brands available in 205/60/ R16 size.

It is just about a cm extra. I dont think wheels will scrape unless you are going for a wider profile tyres. But you need to keep in mind the speedo and odo errors due to the bigger wheels. Brands and prices, I hope experts will chip in. Mine is Michelin Primacy LC.

A profile of 60 is a tad too high for 16" wheels. GC will improve and the ride may be better because of the taller tyre-wall. But it may just foul with the wheel-arches. I suggest you try slightly lower profile tyres, especially if you're going in for 16" wheels.

I think 205/60-16 is a little too high. It might scrape. If you are very keen to try it, do so but be careful.

Yokohama C-Drives are pretty good. Have a look at them. You might get the DB Decibel series too.

Thanks for your inputs vasoo, suhaas307 and Nikhil2008. I was checking the overall tire diameter at Tire size calculator. The stock 195/65 R15 diameter is 25 inches, while a 205/60 R16 would be 25.7 inches. Would these extra 0.7 inches be enough to scrape the wheel well? Trying it out with real tires would be hugely uneconomical and impractical.
Any ideas with some research on whether the Civic can take 25.7 inches diameter tire without any problems?

Since my first post is someway down, I want to add that my current Civic tires are 205/55 R16. And the reason I am seeking inputs from experts is to increase ground clearance to avoid scraping big speedbreakers we have on Bangalore roads and improve ride quality a little, it's a bit harsh with current tires and is starting to set off rattles in the car (bloody bad roads).

re: Honda Civic : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Thanks for the excellent link khoj. It says the most you can go on 16" rims is 205/55 R16. However, I read on one of the forums that SX4 OEM tires are 205/60 R16. So I am confused.

How can you compare the SX4 with the Civic? It makes no sense! they are two completely different cars!
