Most people dont drive like that. For them, a car is a place to go from one place to another. There are loads of people who dont drive much on highways and their driving is restricted to the city. In the city, they are very happy with the OEM JKs or MRFs.
Do you mean to say that TBHPIans do frequent highway trips??? No.
I've been a TBHPian for more than 6 months now - I ride on JK stocks, I know they are tinny, but how many times do I go over 100/100 KMPH???
In the past 1 year I've travelled over 20K Kms on the stock tyres and had only 1 punture. I've travelled on highways where there were no roads, just gravel and slush for 100 Kms at a time. I've known TBHpians - who have downgraded from alloys to steel rims because the alloys can take the same beating as steel rims on the terrains they have to ride once a while.
Agreed - I'd be travelling on such roads/terrains only once a year or so - but for that 1 day will I risk going with a softer/sports/premium tyre??? Till then the indian brands are the ones which I'd go for. And the best part is that I can get 4 tyres for the price of the so called premium tyres which I know are going to give me troubles if I take them to roads I've been through in past 1 year...

Nice thread,

I wanted continental tyres for my VW Bus, as they originally came with them from the factory.

The size as per the tyre says 16.5-14 / 175 R14. This tyre is a cross between a raidal and a crossply(Very typical) has one centre rib ,which also is a tyre/rim protector.

I needed 4 tyres, anyone who can guide me to a dealer in Namma Bengaluru

You could try 175/65/R14.

175/R14 would be 175/80/R14, that is the size for toyota qualis and used to come as OE fitment for mahindra's now defunct voyager van.

IIRC, Bridgestone used to make a 175 R14C for the Qualis, I think in the L607 pattern.

P.S. Just checked, yes they do make that size.

I think you can, wheel arch clearance shouldn't be an issue. Just the rim width has to be considered.

Continental has been in India for close to a year now. I would say they are superior to Bridgestone. But that is only because BS India make crap tyres.

They are equal with Michelin but cheaper. Much cheaper as you keep going up the size ladder.

They dont have any Asia-spec tyres though. Michelin for example has the XM1 and the Primacy LC which are Asia specific. Continental have no such thing. Their range in India is the same as in any part of Europe.

I recently purchased a set of Continental Premium Contact 2 for my car (size 195/60/R15). Recently on my trip to Kerala, was able to test its ability on the wet roads. We had to brake hard on a rainy day, because of a stupid lorry driver. The car did not loose it composure, even in the absence of ABS. Need to wait and watch the life of the tire.

Just a small note here. The new batches of tyres coming in 13" and 14" have a stronger sidewall than what was coming in the early days. Only a couple of sizes still come with the old softer sidewall. This makes Contis in 14" and 13" a better buy now compared to earlier.

If you ask me, for NHCs, Fiesta, Vernas, etc... 195/60 R14 CPC2 is the tyre to buy if you are an enthusiast. You dont have any other options in that size range except the PP2 in 185/60 R14 which decreases your ride quality.

yes, they are being distributed via the michelin dealers in india, any store having the michelin tyres should have these too, on par with the michelins/yokos and much better than the indian bridgestones.

Totally and utterly wrong.

It just happens that most Michelin dealers happen to deal with Continental. It is ludicrous to say that Continental is being distributed via the Michelin dealers. They are competitors! Why will they do that? It's like buying a Santro from a Maruti dealership!!

Agree with the rest of your post. Just about anything is better than the Indian Bridgestones. Personally, I would rate Michelin and Conti at the top followed by Yoko a notch below.
