Re: 195/60R15 on 5.5J rims for manza

As you might know, stock tyre size on Manza is 185/60R15. I will need to change the stock tyres soon. I have got Tata OE alloys for manza which are 5.5Jx15.

Can I use 195 patch tyres on 5.5 alloy rims? I know the optimal rim size for 195 is 6 and 5.5 is minimum. So can I have issues with 5.5 being minimum required size for 195 patch tyres?

I want to upsize slightly to have better stability, reduce understeer. I think 195/60 will also lead to even better ride quality. I know this will result in 2% speedo error, but in case of manza this will actually be speedo correction. I have observed multiple times that the distance odo shows is more by 2% than distance actually covered!

Re: New shoes for my Manza

This weekend, I changed the tires on my car to Apollo Acelere 195/60R15. OE tires were Bridgestone B250 185/60R15 and were 1 year and 25k km old. New tires are mounted on the OE Manza Alloys from tata (5.5Jx15). Have driven for about 350km after the tire change. A couple of observations :

1. Steering feel has improved a lot, it's slightly heavy now and earlier high speed vagueness (very little) is gone.
2. Car feels more stable and planted now, body roll has reduced a bit as well. Ride quality has improved even further, thanks to the 6mm more sidewall. Also, I think due to better tires, unsteer will reduce a bit. Not yet checked on this.
3. Wider tires go very well with exterior dimensions of the car. While theoretically 195 are 10 mm more than 185, but in fact they are 15 mm more. Section width on 185 tires is 185 while on 195 it's 200. Please see this link http://www.apollotyres.com/downloads...ar_acelere.pdf. Though overall circumference is larger only by 2%, they fill the wheel arches better as well.
4. Speedo/ ODO got corrected by earlier error of 2%. Those who travel on NH1 will know that distance between Delhi ISBT to Ambala Cantt bus stand is exactly 201km. On my earlier tires ODO used to show 205 km for this 201km distance. That's corrected now.
5. FE does not seem to have come down. Except for may be 2-3% which in a way is due to correct ODO readings now.

Those planning to change tires on Manza (QJD), I would highly recommend to go for 195/60R15 than going for stock size. On petrol this may affect FE. I am not yet aware that this will affect the warranty or not. It may not as I am continuing the OE alloy rims and tires are very slightly upsized. Tata folks may not even notice this.

Now the cost part. I got the new tires @4.2k (195/60R15) per piece and sold the 25k km used one's @1.7k (185/60R15) per piece. Had to pay exact 10k for 4 tires. Also changed to steel wheel nuts, OE one's were iron and very small in size. Had to get a new wheel spanner as well. Additional 600 for this. Tire change, alignment and balancing was done free. Any comments on the prices? I was also getting Michelin Primacy LC @5.2k per piece, but did not want to spend that much.

re: Tata Indigo Manza : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

One of my dad's friend who has bought a Manza elan, replaced the stock alloys with new ones yesterday. Since I was interested in the Manza elan alloys, planning to buy those stocks from him at some discount.

Can someone help on what will be the right price to pay for the alloys (set of 4 as Elan's spare wheel is not an alloy). Tried checking with a few TML dealers but unable to get a quote for the new Elan alloys. The quote I got for the earlier Manza OE alloys (similar looking to Linea's was Rs. 4.5k a piece).

Manza Tyre Upsize

Dear all,
would like your valuable inputs for my doubt. I wanna upgrade the current 185/60R15 tyres on my manza to 205/55R15. Is this upsize ok ? My main question is will it foul in the wheel arch when turning from left to right, will it rub the inner wheel arch if three people and luggage are there at the back? Havent come across any manza owner in this forum who has done this upgrade. Your suggestions are welcome.

Cheers,
Nanolover

Nanolover, you should have asked this in the thread below. I have reported this post to the mods to merge with the existing thread.

To answer your question, 205/55R15 will not foul with wheel arches. You should be okay that way. Infact, I have seen someone using 205/55R16 on manza (bad upsize though), but did not foul anywhere. If you read my post on the thread below, you will see that I would recommend 195/60R15. Considering 89 bhp of Manza, 195 section is more than enough (my view). Is your's a petrol or diesel? If petrol, I would not at all recommend 205. Also, what size rims you have? If stock (5.5J), you should not fit anything more than 195 on them.

Re: Manza Tyre Upsize

195/60 is a good choice amit, but my doubt is will it rub the wheelarch when its fully loaded with 3 passengers and luggage at the back? what were your experiences?

No it won't rub anywhere. I have been using 195/60R15 in Manza for last 6k km's and the car has been loaded many times. Never had any issues.

Don't know if BLR rates are different, but I paid 4.2k per piece for apollo aceleres in Feb in Punjab. Aceleres are jack of all trades, you can also look at Yokohama S drives if you want sporty tires. They are available in this size and are I think very marginally expensive than aceleres. They will like any other sports tires, wear out soon. You did not mention, which model is your Manza and how much has it run? I think the stock tires would be Bridgestone B250, if the stock are aceleres 185/60, then you can even wait for them to wear out before you change. Just my thoughts.

I maintain recommended 32 psi in all four tyres.

re: Tata Indigo Manza : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

I'm seriously thinking about buying the Elan Diesel version of the Manza and if so, change tyres (to 195/60/15) immediately. The stock alloys are 5.5J . I have read in a few threads that the best fit for 195/60/15 are 6J wheels. Any disadvantages of putting the 195/60/15 on 5.5J instead of 6J?

Help needed.

re: Tata Indigo Manza : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

One more query please. Which tyre brand would work best in Delhi Roads on the Manza. Michelin XM1 or Yokohama C Drive or Yokohama A Drive?
