(Tyres + rims + valves + balancing + nitrogen + alignment)

Based in Kottayam and Club Saturn is the default pitstop (just 2 kms from home), but got it done during an EKM trip one month ago.

OT reply: Cheers to that super-wide upgrade, mate. 165 to 205!

My beat diesel stock Goodyear DP tyres were starting to show its age. Done 35000 kms in 3.5 yrs.
I had mixed experience with these tyres. No much grip, slightly hard, 2 punctures so far.

Tyres had gone almost bald and in a recent highway drive, lost traction several times.
So changing tyres became inevitable. And the hunt started, both for tyres and deals.

Due to lack of Vitamin M, decided to stick to existing steel rims. And straight away there is a problem. The stock tyre size is a rare one.
The steel rim is of size 4.5j, and referring to tyre-rim size table from various tyre maker websites, it can only take 165/65 R14 max.

I do undertsand many folks here have upgraded to 175/65 R14 on stock rims, and are very happy with the performance.
But I decided to stick with recommended one. Also felt these less wide rims wont give full benefits of 175/65 size.

Did some online check, various tyre maker websites, usual online markets like changemytyre, snapdeal etc.
Found that this particular tyre size 165/65 R14 is rare, hardly 2 car models use it. Most of leading tyre makers dont have it.

Zeroed on two tyres 1. GoodYear DP C1 (Stock. No much reviews found online).
2. Apollo accelere (Mixed reviews)

Thought of giving apollo accelere a try, and the hunt for best deals started. Checked with 3-4 stores here in bangalore.
In one store, I got an interesting news. Yokohama Earth-1 comes in this size. They started shipping it from past 3-4 months.
It was a surprise to me, I checked again online and NONE of the websites listed this particular size, including Yokohama's own official indian website.

Ordered straight away , and got it fitted. 4150/- a piece, including wheel alignment and balancing. Also got 12V air compressor as complimentary gift from Yokohama.

Intial impressions:
1. All I needed was 200m of driving to feel the difference. Ride quality has gone up tremendously. Feels really cushioning. Didnt see any difference in handling. Though have not taken to highway. Only city runs.
2. This is my personal observation. These tyres feel pretty delicate while touching. Not sure if it can withstand a moderate hit , in case of an unavoidable pothole.

I have a 2010 beat lt petrol.
My oe tyres are worn out and i need to upgrade.
I have a set of 15" alloy wheels from my swift which i m selling.
The question is can i fit these 15" rims on my beat and what should be the tyre size. I guess the tyre size with 15" wheels would be in the low profiles.
Please advise.

Hello guys,

I'm looking to change tyres on my Beat pertol.
Also I have a set of 15 inch alloy wheels lying spare from my other car which I sold. Now I'm unable to find a suitable low profile tyre for beat.
The regular 185/60 r15 is too big at side walls and touches the springs.

Can anybody suggest what tyre size may fit perfectly, without touching/scraping anywhere?

I searched for a profile 185/45 r15, but is is not available anywhere in Delhi.

I'm also open to exchange my 15 inch rims with 14 inch rims if anyone is willing to do so.

Thanks for the suggestion, this size indeed was perfect, but i could not go for it as my alloy wheels are 6.5" in width.

I instead went for 185/65 r15. They just fit well. There is no more room left, and it does not touch the body or inside anywhere. I only have to drive a little carefully as the rear of my car is a little low due to the CNG tank.

My CNG guy suggested me to get the rear lifted by fitting a rubber padding.

Hello Folks !

My Chevy Beat Diesel LS (2012 Dec) has run ~42K in 3 years. the left front tire has almost gone bald while the other three tires have decent tread. Also the stepney is new. The stock rims are also not in a great shape and are bent after going over a couple of bad potholes / minor brushes with the divider.

I am looking for a tire upgrade as a relatively cheap way to satisfy the new car bug in me (After seeing Aspire Titanium Diesel O ) and not plunge into further debt.

Going through the whole thread I have seen 175/65/ R14 (Yoko A drives ?) as the most common recommendation. Has this changed ? I am not averse to changing the rims as well if need be as the car's warranty is expiring next month.

Please guide w.r.t tire size and make. Factors important for me in the same order : 1. Reliability / Longevity, 2. Road Noise / Ride Quality, 3. Handling and 4. FE (not important .

Hi mustang312,

Here's an update of the 185/60x14 (6J) BS Potenza GIIIs.

• KMs: 6000
• FE drop: 1-2 kmpl (around 13 kmpl now, was around 15 kmpl with stock tyres)
• Steering: There is some slight free 'play' in the centre/straight position. (which was absent with the stock tyres)
  But the car corners beautifully.
• Higher speeds (70-90kmph) feel under control and not so scary.
• Braking: has been very good. No ugly surprises, slips or slides.
• No particular mechanical problem(s) found to be caused by the change.

I wish I could drive one with the next possible upsize of 175/65x14 and see how it feels.

Which of the above options is best. I would like improved handling and comfort if possible.

I don't want any big drop in FE .

Also what tire options are good. The JK tires were poor. Thanks in advance

Hi Prince,

175/65 R14 is the most advised/tried upgrade.

Yokohama - Good. However watch out for sidewall issues if you are driving through bad roads
Apollo Accelere - Good Balance between comfort, performance, road noise, FE

Thanks for the reply. I was considering Goodyear assurance, yoko earth 1 and apollo accelere. I would want a robust tire since I do Bangalore - Coorg often. Interior roads in coorg are as good as none.

My 'heart' beat has reached the milestone of 40K and I am very happy with the performance of her till now. I am writing sitting at office after dropping her for 40K service. The tyres are also have started giving up. I am planning to replace 4 of them soon. What is the best option available for me in the market now?
