Chevy Cruze : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi Guys,

Just picked up the Cruze and after going thru a lot of search, found that the Vectras are reputedly bad. True?

If so, Sai Iyengar is offering me eiother The Yokohamas ES501 or the Continental CPC2s at almost the same price. Which y=would you guys recommend?

At about 11K for the 5 tyre upgrade, would you feel it was worth the spend?

Thanks for any help.

Edit: Likely to get the Contis for 6.5 versus 6.9 for the Yokos. From what I have read, the Yokos have poor wet grip?

Contis without a doubt. No question of the Yokos at all.

Thanks Nikhil. I knew I could count on you after reading your other posts :-)

Price seems OK? I guess they are the discounted old manufacturing date ones.

^^ You can request for closure of the thread now
But seriously you will feel the difference between Yokos and CPC2s.
But, are you sure about the price. Seems unreal for 5 CPC2s.

Thanks guys. Just got the Contis at 6,500, and 4200 for the JKs. Paid 9.2 for 4 tyres swap. He did not have a 5th, and I think I'll live with the JK stepney.

Definitely a softer ride than the JKs, but having said that, I have no idea what the pressure was set at for the JKs,.

A 17 lakh car comes without mud flaps?

Congrats Deepak on the tyre upgrade. Did you stick to same configuration or did you choose a wider ones on same alloy?

Please post a bit more details on car behaviour after the upgrade. Has the steering become heavier? Do post a few pictures of the Contis.

Also, any reason why you didnt consider Michelin XM1+ Energy Series?

Hi,

No upsizing. Stuck to the same size. Car rides a bit softer, but like I said I have no idea what the pressure was when I took delivery.

Not really qualified to comment much but the car has a very nice suspension. Not as harsh as the Laura but not as soft as the Accord.

Personal request please dont use conti cpc2 for your car. Cruze can do an excess of 180km/hr. Cpc 2 have a tendency to flex a lot under hard braking. I got my alloys scarped under hard braking on cpc2.

Better you try to get yourself pp2s' or ps2 from Michelin. They are any day better than Conti cpc2 .

Personal experience and request; stay far away from cpc2

He had bought 205/60 R15.

I personally find it hard to believe that the tyres FLEX so much that the alloys get scraped. I am using the 205/65 R15 on the Civic and I find they have a reasonably stiff sidewall. The sidewall is stiffer than the PP2.

ES501s suffer from lack of wet grip according to various reviews on the net.

Complete non issue. Dont worry. I've used the CPC2s at a speed much higher than 120 and it was perfectly fine.

re: Chevy Cruze : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Sorry for necro'ing this old thread folks - I see other threads complaining about CPC2 as well. And we have good roads in TN now, meaning I do expect to hit >200 speeds. Having said that, is cpc2 still a good choice?
