Changed few months back to Yokohama BluEarth, happy with comfort, grip and road noise. The seller notified that life would be less compared to to stock which was good year.

Any idea how to interpret this tyre pressure label on VW Polo. I have no clue.

The first column is your tyre size. The second column is the load on the vehicle (partly loaded / fully loaded), the next column is the recommended pressure for the front and the next is for the rear (in kpa/psi/bar).

Thanks much! But does that mean the recommended tyre pressure is same for both tyre specifications? (175 And 185)

Yes. The overall volume of air would be similar for 175/70/14 and 185/60/15.

Re: VW Polo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Time to get the tyres changes on my Polo (stock 185/65 R15). After shopping around locally, i have shortlisted the following two options :

Yokohama Earth-1 185/60 R15 : Rs. 4200/- per tyre
Yokohama Earth-1 195/60 R15 : Rs. 4350/- per tyre

The dealer is keen on pushing me towards 195/60 R15 and is even willing to match prices with 185/60 R15.

1. Is 195/60 R15 a proper upsize for the Polo Highline? Going through the previous posts, some are for it, some against it.
2. Is 4200/tyre a good deal? I can see that the online prices are higher than this.
3. Any other brands i should consider? Keeping in mind that the car has run only 30K kms in 5 years.

Regards,
Anoop

You said you currently have a set of OEM 16" ? Where did you get those from and would you mid sharing the design? I am looking for designs from various brands like OZ, Sparco, MSW, Enkei, Momo, etc. Found some dealers but they have very limited/common designs.
Hi Epic, You have swapped from 205/55/R15 to 205/50/R16 right??? Does it feel better than 205/55/15 on undulated surfaces with more people on car (4 seats occupied) (lesser bottoming out?). Currently running on 195/60/R15 and wanted to swap for 205/50/R16..I see minimal decrease in overall diameter on an online comparison chart. Hoping the size reduction in sidewall would be compensated with minimal difference in overall diameter & wont impact much on bad roads.

Hi. Yes I am currently running on 205/50/R16 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. There is a difference for sure, the current ride is just a bit stiffer but not a deal breaker at all. I drive in Mumbai city and I honestly do not feel this size to be a problem. I also believe that the Michelin tyre compound being softer than the others have a lot to do with the ride comfort. Never experienced bottoming out even with a full load; i.e. 05 persons in the car.

I think you can go ahead with the upgrade with no problems. Just make sure you get good quality rims and tyres and the centre bore of the rims and hub are matched. The Polos / Ventos from 2018-19 come with 16" rims and 195/55/R16 tyres as standard. You can also look at this size if you are not convinced with the ride quality but the 205/50 look hotter!!

Thanks for the assuring reply Epic - Yes, the plan is to swap with OE 16" alloys, so it should go well & its 205/50

Re: VW Polo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Upgraded to continental mc5 195/60/15 88V after 25k km on stock mrf on my polo 1.5 tdi. The difference is immediately noticiable. I don't know how much of it is due to upgrading to 195 from stock 185 but cornering and grip has massively improved and noice has reduced significantly.

I have driven almost 10k km on contis and apart from two instances solely due to my negligence (driving on serious potholes without slowing down causing tear in sidewall) tires have been solid as ever.

They cost me 24k for 4 tires, replaced one when it got a tear and got a new one for 4k. I was disappointed they don't offer replacement, the dealership said they only replace tire in case of manufacturing fault like bubbling.

Upgrade is done....its PS4 205/50/R16. The upgrade is good so far and no issues of scrapping anywhere inspite of lowering the car

Guys, the lockdown has resulted in the tyres being the first victim, touchwood everything else is well in a VW!

Now I am looking to take this opportunity to replace the tyres and also looking at upgrading the Alloys.

Need your help in choosing between the two options

Option 1 - 15 Inch default size (The first picture)

Option 2 - 16 Inch upsize (please recommend tyre size with the upgrade.

Have taken the options from the website here
https://alloywheelskart.com/474-Volk...eter_r-16_inch

Option 3

I like the Option 3 over Option 1 and 2, any views?

I personally like option 2, nice design. For 16 inch you can consider 195/55/16, this is an OE size that currently comes with the Polo.

Re: VW Polo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi guys,

Have decided against the alloy wheel size upgrade. Going for 195 60 R15 tyres. Yokohama Earth 1, price 5100 each

Any alternatives you would recommend?

Re: VW Polo : Tyre & wheel upgrade thread

Hi, need some advice on urgent basis .

I have 5 year/46k old Polo GT and I am in Jaipur for the weekend enroute to Gurgaon. I need to replace the tyres tomorrow for sure as I have a long road trip back to Mumbai. 2 tyres have lost all treads and 1 tyre is punctured beyond repair.

Reading this thread I was sure to replace tyres with Michelin Primacy 4ST 195/60 R15. However, I searched at 3 dealers in Japiur and these are not available due to import disruption. What is available with 2020 manufactured Michelin Energy XM2 195/60 R15. Are these good enough alternative of Primacy? Also, does increasing tyre size from 185 to 195 voids the warranty? I plan to extend the warranty till end of 7 years.

Could someone please suggest the second and third best options after Primacy? It could be any brand. I am looking at smooth city ride for 90% of my usage. I was really looking forward to this tyre upgrade but looks like it would be anything but Primacy. Please advise.

Michelin XM2 is in the range of Apollo Alnac etc. It's not at the level of Michelin Primacy.

There is no issue with upsizing to 195 section tires as warranty for suspension is only valid till 10k kms.

Alternatives for Primacy are MRF Perfinza and Continental MC5. Both have good reviews. Ride quality will improve irrespective of brand if you go for 195/60 since sidewall height will go up by 6mm.

Hope you get your hands on a good pair of tires!
