Re: Pre / Post War Pontiac

There are a few nice Pontacs in Hyderabad too. The 47/48 Fastback in Marredpally was a single owner car.

Rashid Bhai had a nice straight eight Pontiac too.

Early Pointiacs are quiet rare in India though

There was also a nice Firebird / Trans Am also in Hyd which had lost its original V8

What a car? Made my day. Thanks KPS for the lovely pictures. Its really a masterpiece and the restoration job is so well executed.
Its sad that the brand has been killed by GM in late 2010.
Pontiac - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Our neighbour and family friend used to bring one cream, soft-top 1940's, 2527b Business Coupe which was not so well maintained. He was in the RTO and used to drive around in many old cars, that would come to him for fitness.I too would get rides but as a child was not aware of its worth. The car must have been very rare in India and I doubt if any survive here. This one's number was BYG 3888. Don't know if that rare car still survives.

Was like this one but with a soft top
In Nagpur we had a mid 1940's (1946 or 47) Chieftian Streamliner four door that was black and exquisite looking with all its chrome. It was owned by a family acquaintance. After the oil shock around the late 1970's they sold it away. I do not remember its number too!

Was exactly like this one but black.

This is a very well maintained 1946-47 Streamliner. Are any further close up shots of the dash available?

A few Pontiacs have been seen, hope we may see a few more!!

Cheers

Re: Pre / Post War Pontiac

I have to post a number of Pontiac pictures, but I came across this picture from prewarcar.com of a Pontiac fitted with a Plexiglass body, a new invention at that time to promote this new material. I thought that this was a novelty not mant know about.

Cheers harit

Harit, look forward to the pictures once you have your computer sorted out.

Wonder if the Plexiglass Pontiac is around at GM or is it with a Museum?

Cheers, Adhir

Re: Pre / Post War Pontiac

There is a 52 Pontiac in Calcutta in Mr. P.S Bose's collection. It has not been entered into a rally even once but this time when i was at the rally, Mr. P.S Bose's son Billy said that they would try to get it next year for the 2012 Rally.

Re: Pre / Post War Pontiac

A later Pontiac taking part in a VCCCI rally starting from Nariman Point, just outside NCPA. This car was lying for a while at Khar, I believe later she passed on to somene else. Where is she now? Pontiac's from this era are rare in India (one of 100?).

Cheers harit

Indrojit,

The car was entered in the Kolkata Rally some 6 to 7 years back. It's maroon, and a 4 or 2 door convertible. They had just restored it when it took part, but since then it never took part again.
