@Shreeram: Where did you find the Renault 5 ? I didn't think there were any left in India !!
The '5' was an iconic supermini which heralded Renault's resurgence in the eighties - even America lapped her up hungrily.. The '5' was also a champion of many a rally.

Do dig out more on this baby if you can..

Renaults, Peugeots, Fiats and Alfa Romeo are known worldwide to become rust-buckets. And the rusted monocoque gets structurally unsafe. Beware of the hassles of trying to restore junked and rotting French and Italian cars.

On the one hand, the Indian made Premier Padmini enjoyed a special advantage. Until recently, the restorer could purchase all structural parts new and rust-free and if properly treated before and after assembly, these could be expected to last a few years.

On the other hand, Japanese cars were always usually better constructed and generally last longer than the cars above.

The Renault is located in Pune, siting along with more Cars Like a Chevy Truck, A Standard Something (I dont Know what), a Vintage Tractor, A Vintage Road Roller one more Unidentifyable Car and a Fiat 1100, all lying in a jungle (Literally) All covered and surrounded with plants and grass for the Past 15 Years. I had to cut down some small trees to click photos.. will post them soon. The owner is very wealthy and does Not Want to sell them because of Sentimental Value.. I have got His number from a nearby house people say he never visited the place after he sent these cars to this graveyard.. (15 Years now..) The Renault is in a much better condition than the others which have nearly gone to the Ground.

Some WIKI Details on The Renault

The Renault 5 (also called the R5) was a supermini produced by the French automaker Renault in two generations between 1972 and 1996. It was sold in many markets, usually as the Renault 5 and in North America as Le Car, from 1976 to 1986. Nearly 5.5 million Renault 5s were built.[1]

January 1972: Introduction of the Renault 5 in L and TL forms. Both models had rear pull handles, a folding rear seat, grey bumpers, wind up front windows, and a dashboard-mounted gear shift lever. The TL was better equipped, and had a vanity mirror for the front seat passenger, three ashtrays (one in the driver's door armrest and two in the rear), two separate reclining front seats instead of one bench seat, front pull handles, and three stowage pockets.

Ajay: The two cars are turning into junks of metal.Guess Bhilai had a lot of older Standard Heralds and other cars of the times that were available as cheap second hand cars for the Bhilai Steel plant officials, who get transport allowance every month upon submission of papers to show ownership of a motor car in their own name.
There is another Herald Mark II, 2 door brought to Nagpur from Bhilai which is being offered for sale in running conditio.

Ajaybiz very sad sight indeed. Feel pity for the herald. Seems like its some sort of Garage to which the cars belong.

A real sad sight indeed! The red car seems to be a Nova rather than an Impala though.

I also see some newer vehicles in the background showing the Herald- also bought for the same purpose?
