At an old house in Mysore. Sadly, the car is "not for sale". :(

This is a typical ancestral property either in a disputed zone or else in some very possessive owner's custody who won't sell and won't restore.

The car's trims show it as a Super Select. However it has two badges on the front. The front windows are of the Select kind and the quarter glasses are missing. The confirmatory test is its fuel tank lid, that was typical of the SS's.

Considering that the 'trend' back then would have been to modify an older car into appearing new, contrary to how it is now, I would believe this to be a Select, sir.
Quarter glass and the hood logo are the big give away. The fuel tank lid mod was quite common, wasn't it?

But seems to have a white numberplate? Definitely not an ex-taxi, as the number seems to be BYH?

Dear Arunabh (//M) - I was treated to a very funny experience a couple of months back when I just looked at it as I was passing by that crossing. I was told that it was for sale, the price was more than ridiculously high and that I would have to agree to the price before they would at least start the engine for me. I was also told that I could just drive off, it was in excellent condition and all that it needed was some washing! I thought it prudent not to identify myself. I just said a small prayer and moved away! I feel sad for the car.

On other unrelated cars, there is a certain multi-coloured (cream and red combo) Padmini doing the rounds of main street and east street since the last one year or so. I feel sorry for the car due to the "dhinchak" things that are done to it, but at least it runs. Then there is a certain orangish colored dukkar inside a garage on east street. I had seen it with a scrapper in Narayangaon some 5 years back! There are three white Padminis, two are on east street, one is opposite the Kayani bakery and one is opposite the George restaurant, both under "patra-painting" for God knows how long. The third one is in a garage in Fatima nagar on stands with the wheels removed. There is a white Premier Safari lurking somewhere near the university road. The white Ambassador with MRY plates has landed up at the east street garage as well (poor thing), the last I saw it, it was being pushed by guys who did not even have the ability / inclination to push!

Best regards,

Behram Dhabhar

Dear Sir,

The white Padmini which is parked for denting-painting opposite Kayani Bakery has been lying there for atleast two years now if I recall correctly. There is a beige coloured Dukkar, MTJ 354 - a Super Select, spotted often near MG Road and Blue Nile Restaurant. There are some lovely oldies - classic bikes included, which are running and are being used often near Camp & Fatima Nagar area. It is always good to see such cars kept in pristine shape even so many decades later, mostly as a result of some serious bawa passion.

Warm regards,
Arunabh
