This is our own Suzuki Alto featured in the 1983 Daily Express, UK, Car Buyers Guide for 1983.That was just an year before the Alto landed as the 800 SS80X here.

The Daily Express guide called "World Cars" was the most eagerly awaited publication, year after year.
As a kid, I would have a tough time saving up to buy it !!

Thanks Ravi. True Daily Express gave a glance into the international car scene during the years when we had no internet like information highways.
I have many of these and other newspaper/magazine automobile advts stored with me and will try to post them bit by bit.

Thats a BSA Bond ad from the early 1980's


This is the second issue of Indian Auto magazine (Oct 1986)-It road tests the Maruti 800(SB308) . Its back cover features a Mahindra 540 DP ad.
Will post the first issue picture soon.It featured a road test of the Yamaha RX 100!

The same photo of Late Mrs. Indira Gandhi inspecting Maruti 800 SS80 is published in the book The Maruti Story by K.C. Bhargav along with some other photos.
BTW, loved the advertise of Premier Safari & especially Mahindra MM540 DP very much & also thanks for posting LML Vespa advertise, my dad just loved it as it was his first ever scooter.

Actually the Vespa XE had huge bookings made by people who were fed with the quality of Bajajs/Priyas and Lambys/Vijais. Bajaj and Priya had long waiting lists.
But soon,reports about the Vespa XE said it was underpowered to pull two passengers.No doubt it was commanding handsome premiums till months after its launch.LML had to digest numerous cancellations of bookings. Refunds of the Rs 500=00 booking amount were not made and the media took joy in reporting many such cases.LML and Vespa sat across the table and then took a decision to jazz up the engine to 150cc and so the NV 150 was soon launched.
The Vespa PL 170 another 100cc scooter made by AP scooters Ltd with Piaggio too bombed being underpowered. In the 100cc the Japanese launched the Kinetic Honda and the slew of bikes. All took off with a very good start!

This is superb, guys.. the SAB 24 is looking unique - a Padmini hatch, was it ?
Don't remember seeing this car - only knew the SAB 29 as an estate.
