Legend has it she had done 429 miles when found. Last I remember the speedo hovering at 680 something. She has regularly done rallies in Bombay and Pune over the last 5 odd years, and in the new ownership I expect it to further increase.

I hope they've cleaned the sump out and changed the oils, and not just used any oil. I always used straight 50 grade (non detergent) oil. Some people put modern detergent oils in old engines and it cleans all the muck out (which normally stays trapped in all the corners) and it gets pumped through the bearings, which is not a good idea..
There is an oil filter conversion available for most pre war Rolls-Royce/Bentley cars which is a very good idea to fit. Its discreet and the kit includes the modified oil pipes all nickelled ready to fit.
Another thing that happens with these engines is when you break hard all the oil in the sump moves forward away from the suction pipe feeding the oil pump and sometimes you loose all the oil pressure!
I hope they are using oil in all those oil lubricators and not grease which blocks all the oil ways.

Hi, this is indeed a 1949 Silver Wraith, body by Hooper. I purchased the car in 1977 from the famous Sri Lankan Architect, Geoffrey Bawa (1919–2003). He was living in Chennai those days renovating Hotel Connemara. The car was restored early 80s. Sold it 5 years back to a gentlemen in Bangalore.

1938 25/30 #GRZ 30 Vanden Plas Drop Head Cabriolet.
I think the over-riders on the front bumper need aligning.

Speedy why do you say new clothes? Has she been repainted?

Who was the first owner? Any royal connections? The car now resides in Hyderabad I think, and sports that way-out cut steering wheel. Picture courtesy Julian

The first owner was a Mr. R. S. Colah, it was delivered in November 1938 and was originally pale blue. Here it is when new with the LH headlight pointing at the stars and a different spot light. It also has it's correct steering wheel.

She definately has been repainted. I cannot say in the same colour or a shade darker due to the Bad light at the showroom. The chrome shining and the Body has been polished and looks elegantly ready for the event.

Which showroom did you see the RR in Speedy? This car was in Hyderabad for quite sometime.

The car is displayed in the Bombay Rolls Royce Showroom. I presume it had come for the Cartier event, but i dont know for sure.

Heritage Motoring Club Of India had their monthly meet on the 18th of November, 2008 at Anand Gram Farms, Mehrauli Gurgaon Road, New Delhi. The Evening was hosted by Mr.Gurpreet Singh, a life member of HMCI. Some time back he has acquired a Rolls Royce, which was on display at the meet. Shall be creating a new thread about the meet and shall upload all the photographs of the cars which came for the Meet. I am uploading a few pictures of Mr.Gurpreet's unrestored Rolls Royce.

Here is a verified photo of Maharaja of Bhavnagar’s Rolls-Royce Phantom I chassis no. #60AL with its first body, a tourer by Barker. What we see in S B Jatti’s photos are the remains of its second body also by Barker No. #6860. Thank you to Park Ward for clarifying the mystery.

The price paid was fancy for that time, but as per today's standard he did a wise thing. Apparently she has only been cleaned up, maybe attended to mechanically but the body does not seem to have come on. Lovely project for a lovely car and all the very best to the owner.
