The car is black today and in an enviable Delhi collection. It looks simply stunning! Can anyone confirm the coachbuilder?
B77MX is a H.J.Mulliner Drop Head Coupe, Body # 4679.

That shiny number is a Bentley DHC, restored in Delhi. I think the doors were reshaped during the resto, not sure about the rest.

Does anyone have the chassis numbers and coachbuilders / history?

It's a Bentley - should be around 1935/36 . Whether a 4 1/4 or 3.5 not sure . Belongs to a Calcutta business man and restored and body modified by Mr Tutu DHAWAN.
Cheers

There is some consensus that "UPX-123" is ex "NABHA-2"; which would make it a 4 1/4 Liter, Chassis B97MX, James Young.

The straight doors were cut down a la "Vanden Plas"; and the windshield modified.

Re: Pics: Vintage & Classic cars in India

Why would anyone want to modify a perfectly good classic design?
It just ruins the car and negatively effects the value!

Bulldogji, this "fact of life" extends to several facets of the way commerce operates in India, truly Mutant Lol

Re: Classic Bentleys in India

Maharani Gayatri Devi was gifted a black Bentley by the Nawab of Bhopal on her wedding. Does anyone know which car ?

She also got a Packard, etc from others!

A beautiful Bentley vandalised. As far as I am concerned, they can go ahead and fit a Perkins Diesel engine. It will reduce the running cost

This is not a restoration, it is vandalism.

The "restorer" should have known better than to go in for "beautification". He actually ruined the car, all it needed was a sympathetic restoration. What value? The car is not likely to be sold anytime soon.

For what? Resale? I doubt that it will be resold soon. But an invoice will have been raised, and that commands a higher amount. Feel sad for the car.

No cheers harit

Harit,

Although I fully agree with most of your comments here, what I understand you basically say that when an item is not for sale there is no value. The Mona Lisa is a highly valuable painting, but it is unlikely it will ever be sold.....

Regards,

Anton

In the B&W pic, the car looks so regal. Note how the different contours of the front wings are accentuated by the metallic shade, which must have been used on the car exactly with this intention. The dark colour hides this beautiful element of the design. With the top up, the car is a real looker.

Agree with what everyone has said in earlier posts, it's really sad that not only were the lines of the car were altered, but also the windscreen set-up changed.

Thanks Boybentley.

For the uninitiated, #B51GP is the 1936 4 1/4 Derby Bentley delivered to Nabha, now in a Delhi collection.
