OT:

The stunt scenes seem to be heavily inspired (or lifted) from "Live and Let Die". Though Great Gambler credits its story to a Bengali novel with the same name; can't find the year though.

Live and Let die had Chevrolet Bel Air, Cadillac Fleetwood etc.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A 1951 Dodge Crusader (?) is seen in the 1973 movie “Bobby”. The car, probably 22 years old at the time of shooting seems to have undergone a repaint at some point of time. It also seems to have lost quite a bit of its original chrome:

It's a 1951 Dodge Kingsway/Coronet and as you have rightly said is 22 years old in 1973. Chrysler was using the model name "Kingsway" for its export markets, while for the Americas these were badged as "Coronet".

Umbartha, 1982 (Marathi)

A Premier Padmini Starline Safari is seen, what must have been almost new at the time.

Tumhare Bina (1982)

A handsome Triumph TR3 roadster, in a particularly attractive shade of orange. The car survives in Jaipur.

Heera Panna (1973)

This orange stationwagon appears prominently throughout this blockbuster film. Is it an Opel / Vauxhall maybe? Seems to be a foreign registration.

Sentiments about the car by Mr Shammi Kapoor :

Quote:

I had seen the beauty I wanted:

" It was a skyblue colored, convertible; Buick Super; second hand. It belonged to then film actress Nigar Sultana, who wanted to sell it and it was on display at the Car Mart, at Hughes road. My friend and first producer, Aspi Irani, who I was signed with but had no picture on the floor, knew the owner of Car Mart, Mr. Chunnawala and so off we went to meet and negotiate for the car. He agreed to a pricetag of Rs. 16,500/-, to be paid on a monthly basis Hire purchase for 24 months. The down payment of Rs. 5000/- was to be paid by Aspi. For the next 2 years I paid Rs. 650/- every month almost regularly. It was on the 12th of June, 1952 that I got my Buick. It's registration number was BMY 3009.

Subsequently in my life span as a Film Star, I had a number of different cars; a Desoto followed by a Chevy Belair, a Chevy Impala, a Chevy Intercontinental convertible, a Ford Thunderbird, a Sunbeam Alpine, a Triumph, a Malibu some foreign and Indian Fiats and a number of Jeeps for my Shikar. But to this day the one and only beauty which has always remained dear to me in both my memory and my heart is, the BUICK BMY 3009.

Finally we find a nice image of the car, seen here in a movie still, though I'm yet to identify the film.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Film: Do Chor.
Actors: Dharmendra and Tanuja.
Released: 1972.

Here Dharmendra drives a RHD Jeep of the 70s. Can anyone guess the model ?

About the road: Bandstand road area in the early 70's.

In the first pic Bhabha road meets BJ.Road opp Villa Vienna after which was Mon Repos and then Kane road going up to Mount Mary Church. After Kane road are the Khoja and Parsi Sanatoriums with Bullock road in between them and then the road going up to Fr.Angels via the grand stone arch, opposite which is the famous Bandstand.

In the 2nd pic the tall building of Sea Bird can be seen and next building I think could be Galaxy apartments. Or Galaxy could be the building on Dharmendra's shoulder in the left side of pic.
The clergy building before the intersecting roads can also be seen below Sea Bird.

In the 3rd pic is the Cafe Sea Side Restaurant and behind it you can see the Sea Rock Hotel's pillars under construction with huge debris piled up near the sea.

So in just one song filmed in the early 70's we got pics of Sea Rock Hotel and Otters Club under construction as well as other pictures.

Original song can be seen on YouTube.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

This song featured here is from the film Baarish (1957) featuring Agha, Dev Anand and Nutan. Music is by C. Ramchandra. The voice over is by Asha Bhonsle and Chitalkar. C. Ramchandra used his surname "Chitalkar" whenever he lent his voice. The song features an early 1950's Chevrolet 3100 pickup.

The video can be watched through the you tube link.
