Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A Standard Herald (seemingly mk1) 'convert-able' with a roll bar(!) to boot!

From the Tamil movie "Muthu" (1995-96 IIRC) starring Rajinikanth:

Not a monococque body, but the damage to the car is minimal. The driver seems to have succumbed to his injuries. The accident appears to be namesake in keeping with the storyline.
The best part is that they have not annhilated the car.

Not quite, he just gets a bit disoriented but walks away safely!

And yes, thankfully theydin't really damage the car!

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

An assortment of various cars and a Jawa bike from the 1969 movie WARIS, *ing Jithendra and Hema Malini.

Sad end for the '47 Caddy in the end of the movie though!

The Fiat 1100D seems to be an early ('64-65) model and can be seen throughout this song from the movie:

RJL 189 1100 D
RJL 4833 Cadillac
RJL 9343 Herald

The numbers appear to have been repainted to show a Rajasthan location.
The 1965-66 Fiat appears to be the oldest.
The Herald may also be from 1963-64 if not repainted (Stanher will know better).
The Cadillac is from the 1940's.
It is sad to see the gorgeous Cadillac being burnt and destroyed merely to thrill the audience. The film was released in the late 1960's and maybe the Cadillac was bought for something less than Rs 5 K just to destroy it. SAD!

No the Herald is an early (1961-62) one, as seen by the dash and front parking lights.
You would be right about the numbers though. The Herald infact seems to have been Madras-based going by the 'dots' on the headlamp lenses.

This Ford Model A Tourer is seen extensively in the Shammi Kapoor starrer 'Basant'. Wonder if it survived.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

We see two early 50s Chevys in the Kishore Kumar starrer 'Bhagam Bhag' - a conventional Styline saloon and a much rarer convertible.

Incidentally we saw the same convertible BMU 4347 in the movie Memsaahib.

Happy Birthday to the Late Shammi Kapoor on his 83rd birthday today. We are uploading some of his pictures with the late 1940's Studebaker Commander Convertible from Kashmir Ki Kali (1964).
