Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Thats the great flute player and instrumentalist Mr Suman Raj, who worked with most of the great composers of Hindi films of the yesteryears including Naushad, C Ramchandra, Vasant Desai, O.P.Nayyar, Madan Mohan,Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, R.D Burman and many others.

The mystery sound effect in he song "gumnaam hai koi" from the film Gumnaam was created by him (for maestros Shankar Jaikishan) using a violin bow and a wood cutting saw.

The car featured here is in all probability a Hillman Minx, as the steering wheel colour and the body bulge below the front "A" pillar and quarter glass is prominent. I may be corrected too !

Thats Mr Sawan Kumar in the role as a driver in the film Naunihal from the mid 1960's.
Mr Sawan Kumar later married music director Ms Usha Khanna. He became a producer-director later and made films like "Hawas" and some more in the 1970's.The Mohammed Rafi song "teri galiyon mein na rakhenge kadam, aaj ke baad" was from this film.Ms Usha Khanna was its music director.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

Shyam found a rare find in the 1969 movie Shatranj, a bright red Austin Healey roadster.

Though the quality is poor, I seem to make out the registration as BMF 7403. It is of interest to note that Sheik Mukhtar's Orcha V16 Caddy was BMF 7409.

Two such cars survive to the best of my knowledge, one MMH regd and one KRV regd. Both are now in the South. (EDIT - a third car, WBG, now RJ 14 also survives)

While looking for this movie I found another Shatranj but possibly from the 90s. It too features a red two door convertible, but a decidedly less glamorous Beetle convertible. The regn is probably dummy.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A video of the song from Waris (1969) "kabhi kabhi aisa bhi hota hai..." by Mohammed Rafi and Asha B. featuring Jeetendra and Hema Malini.
The Fiat 1100 D seen here is in its oldest Italian avatar from 1965/66. The car appears to be repainted, as there were no factory painted two tone colours then from PAL.
The noteworthy feature is that the car has OE ash trays the rear doors, that was only available in the Deluxe BE models later.
