Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

One of the most popular Bollywood magazines is/was Filmfare.
In 1963 or so(I lost the paper on which I had written the date of the issue) one Mr. Firoze Ambroliwala collected such mags and even covered them with brown paper. In this magazine there was a feature on Leela Naidu, and pictured was this Jaguar bearing an early Bombay number.
Those times were different, just look at her hair
And the word Bollywood did not yet exist, or?

Cheers harit

The Ambassador featured in "Bombay to Goa" in blue. Shatrughan Sinha and other villains chase the Tata bus by which heroine Aruna Irani is travelling from Bombay to Goa.Amitabh Bachchan is also a passenger on this bus.The Ambassador though in the same colour changes to a Mark II in some other shoots.

This song "hoga tum se kal bhi saamna" sung by Rafi from An Evening in Paris (1967) features Shammi Kapoor .The music is by Shankar Jaikishen and lyrics is by Shailendra.

That's the famed music director duo Shankar Jaikishan with the car that belonged to Jaikishan. They were superstars of their times and in the early 1960's, charged Rs 1.25 L to compose music of each film.Sadly, on 12/09/1971 Jaikishan Panchal passed away of liver failure at age 41.

Shankar Singh Raghuvanshi continued composing music for films till 1987 (the year he died) but after 1971, he just gradually slid into almost oblivion and was only doing B and C grade films.

Actually it was more the favourite car of the filmy crowd, many of them preferred a red Impala. Mercedes were considered unauspicious at that time. This perception has changed long ago.

Yes that's in his Pagoda top 230SL which he owned himself, the car is still around. On second thought the horn ring does look like a 190SL and so do the meter consoles. I know that he owned a 230SL but could he have also owned a 190SL??

He did indeed own a 190SL - the car survives in Bombay in long term ownership, now red, MRH registered.
