About Film star Nimmi - Has anyone have or seen a photograph of her dark green 1947 Cadillac convertible ? It has been mentioned in several articles and books, namely by Dev Anand and Amitabh Bacchan. A film distributor and financier from Meerut had brought the car to Meerut in the 60s. I have seen it as I am from Meerut and my brother did the insurance of that car for Ms Nawab Begum ( Nimmi's real name) . The car was in immaculate condition and was maintained lovingly by this gentleman who was quite rich and his family had a stable of fine cars.

Ownership and colour may have changed over the years. Any photo available? Or an idea of the registration number?
But Nimmi had a Chevy Bel-Air convertible 1955, that car was red and lives near to Pune.
In her Bungalow at Worli an Armstrong Siddley, Hudson and a third car resided, probably not hers.

Cheers harit

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

A treat for Fiat fans- TWO songs from the same movie "Hansthe Zakhm" (1973) with Fiat taxis in them, first one a 1100 Delight driven by Navin Nischol. Note the rust on the A-pillar and the red-oxide primer (Lambi?) patches all over it- for a car that may have been just a few years old then? This taxi was a real one for sure, even though the driver was fake!

The second song seems to be in some sort of garage...with a Dukkar (elegant) taxi, I think those wheelcaps are rather nice though some might find them a tad blingy!
Our Fiat friends will be all for killing her for sure, for dancing all over the poor dukkar! The roof's already caved in with her weight, bye bye roof!

And lastly couple of 1100 select taxis?

From childhood experience I remember friends playing in, on and around MHP 883 Fiat Super Select (never me, I loved the car too much), I can tell you the roof snaps right back into shape with a smart punch from the inside

Previous owner of my 55 Dalda Fiat told me a chair fell from a couple of floors above onto the roof of the Fiat, and it snapped back in a similar fashion without even paint damage.

A song from what looks like the late 70s with a phase 2 Vanguard shown briefly but an "Elkhart Yellow" Fiat (maybe Delight) shown throughout:

That's Chowpatty, Bombay, seen in this picture. It is from a pormo for the film "Gambler" of the early 1970's.

That could be a Royal Enfield Ensign - rather among the imported bikes (CKD kits assembled by RE, India) with one of the smallest engines, then. Most imported bikes had displacements from 350-500 cc. The BSA Bantam was another bike imported with a small engine displacement.

(pics of the RE Ensign sighted at a recent rally at Nagpur)

By the way (BTW) what car is seen to the extreme left on the road? The car is very partially visible beside the Dodge Kingsway.
Could it be a Vauxhall Velox?

I doubt that it is a Vauxhall. The characteristic chrome tear drop on either side of the hood of any Vauxhall are missing. On closer look, it could a Pugeot 403 .

Not a Vauxhall, I would say a '50s Peugeot.

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

while driving by , i noticed an attractive early 80s Honda car lies nearly uncared for near MTR at Bangalore . a similar car appeared in an interesting sequence in the opening scenes of a 1984 hit movie 'Aitbaar' used by Raj Babbar. Is anyone interested to acquire one? please pm me for exact location.

the link to the interesting automotive scene where a w115 is deliberately dented by the Honda : approx 5:00 minutes into the sequence. the movie is an adaptation of "Dial M for murder" . very gripping and great dialogues and performances throughout . also, w123s that I have a weakness for , appear regularly and look fantastic!

Re: Old Bollywood & Indian Films : The Best Archives for Old Cars

From the Mohammed Rafi Fan Blog - his first car BMY 4005, stated as a 1947 Morris. But it looks more like a Hindustan 10
